Episode 98- LaCombe to Team USA, Goalie Saves, Goalie Goals and Goalie Fight!

Cody Spink and Gary Spink Season 1 Episode 98

Send us a text

A late-night show with early-morning energy: we open with laughs and jump straight into the week’s biggest swings for Ducks and Kings fans. Leo Carlsson’s thigh procedure casts doubt over Sweden’s Olympic plans, Mason McTavish exits late with an upper-body issue, and Jackson Lacombe earns a deserved call to Team USA thanks to smart role-for-role roster thinking. On the Kings side, trade watch heats up with Connor Garland and Evander Kane rumors, while Brandt Clark finds his groove and Quinton Byfield gets a firm challenge to drive play like a second-overall pick.

Around the league, Vegas does Vegas—landing Rasmus Andersson and pushing chips in again—while the Sharks add Kiefer Sherwood to fuel a surprising push behind Macklin Celebrini’s spark. We pause on Linus Ullmark’s candid note about mental health after the Boston-to-Ottawa move, a reminder that behind every transaction is a person navigating real life. Contract updates for Alex Steeves and Josh Doan round out a busy ticker, and we kick the tires on a spicy idea: would you swap Alexis Lafrenière for Shane Wright straight up?

The game recaps are pure adrenaline. Anaheim edges L.A. in OT on a brilliant 19-year-old stick lift into a two-on-one winner, then Cutter Gauthier bags a birthday brace to sweep the Rangers. Lukáš Dostál turns into a wall in Colorado, stoning 40 of 41 and keeping McKinnon and Makar off the sheet. Seattle surges late, but the Ducks’ structure holds for a six-game heater—a pattern backed by fewer goals against and calmer breakout habits. The Kings, living on a knife’s edge, finally win a shootout over the Blues with Trevor Moore back in the lineup, though special teams and late-game lapses remain the story.

We close with grounded predictions, a quick standings snapshot, and a warm reminder about renewal, family milestones, and showing up for each other. Hit play for smart, fan-first hockey talk—trade rumors, injury updates, tactical takeaways, and the kind of game stories that stick. If you enjoy this one, follow Royally Quacked everywhere, subscribe on YouTube to catch the clips, and leave a rating or review so we can read it on the show. Who’s your Olympic goalie pick, and would you make the Lafrenière-for-Wright trade? Tell us.

SPEAKER_02:

Welcome back, Roily Quack fans, to the a late Saturday night episode. Very late. Very late. Had things to do. Sorry we weren't live this morning, but we're live now. Yes. Hopefully some of you are paying attention and we'll if not watch it live, you can always watch it in your any podcast platform. So anyways, Cody, how's it going?

SPEAKER_00:

I'm doing good. How are you?

SPEAKER_02:

I'm doing alright. I've been busy as a bee.

SPEAKER_00:

Busy as a bee?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Work's been busy. You know, busy. We had a leadership at church today. That was that was a blast. If you could have seen what we saw, you would have loved it. Unfortunately, it won't be played to accept for to the leadership team. That's all I'm gonna say.

SPEAKER_00:

That's all you're gonna say. Yeah. Okay. Alright. Well, I know it's very late late because we're normally like a early morning podcast, but now we're gonna be a very late one for just for this week and maybe next week. We'll let you guys know about that. Um how was your day? Uh you said you had your the church conference and everything.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh it was a leadership conference. It was it was uh very good. Revitalizing this year. Yeah, well, we got one. Yay. Anyways, um, yeah. It was it was definitely worth going to.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Me and uh we did a double date with uh uh friends of ours, and we did two escape rooms. We did an Excalibur one where it was like a medieval one, and then we also did another one where we were kidnapped and we had to get out of a jail cell and everything. I like the first one a little bit more because I wasn't in uh in a dark room for a period of time.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, at least we know you escaped, you're here, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, and unless the kidnapper is just you know looking at me to my right and I mean then calm down. Hold on.

SPEAKER_02:

Could you talk after? Could you point that gun away from my head, please?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, like let me do the podcast, and then you can we'll we'll continue the kidnapping, okay? God, I gotta protect the fans. Jeez. Sorry about that, guys. Um, but no, the escape room was so much fun. Uh I've been wanting to do that for the longest time. The escape room, and finally got to do it. So I was a very I had a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_02:

So I have never done an escape room. I'm not sure I'd be any good at it.

SPEAKER_00:

I didn't think I would be either, but it's e it's easier once you get in the groove of everything. And luckily, um, our friends um they've done it before, so they kind of already had ideas of what to look for, how to do certain things. So I'm like, oh, thank you.

SPEAKER_02:

Otherwise, I'd have been like in the corner just like looking around, like uh I'm gonna get my money's worth. I'm taking is it a whole hour? It's a whole hour. Okay.

SPEAKER_00:

But yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Sit in the corner and go, hey, I'm gonna get my money's worth.

SPEAKER_00:

I mean, are you you're not getting your money's worth if you do that? Just kidding. But all right, well, you're ready to get into some team news? I am. So I'll start first. Um, we have a couple bad news and one good news. I'll start with the bad ones and we'll end with the good news. Um, team Sweden officials are monitoring the recovery of Duck Center Leo Carlson and will judge his progress before deciding if they will need to replace him for the Olympics. Um, they said um we're going to give him at least a week to see how he reacts to after his treatment, and that was per coach Sam Halam. Um he said in a text to NHL.com on Monday, Carlson underwent a procedure last week to treat a left thigh injury, leaving his Olympic participation in doubt. Um, the original uh prognosis was him missing three to five weeks. Um Carlson right now leads Anaheim with 44 points, 18 goals, 26 assists in 44 games. So he's a point of game player right now. And um I meant to look this up. Morale, lesion, there you go. So this is what co-pilot on my computer says what the morale Laval liaison is.

SPEAKER_02:

Is a closed lesion, whatever. There you go.

SPEAKER_00:

It is a closed traumatic soft tissue injury characterized by the separation of the dermis from the underlying fascia, often resulting in blunt trauma. So I guess this happened a while ago, and that's why uh, you know, it took so long, I guess, for him to because I think I think we all know as Ducks fans, like how uh like Carlson didn't look like himself for the last like two weeks or so before him uh being injured. So now that we know, hopefully, you know, the injury will go good. And in all honesty, I don't think he's gonna be able to play in the Olympics. I would kind of prefer as much as I would love for him not or for him to be there, I think for his best bet, it would be better if he didn't play in the Olympics. And I'm pretty sure he'll be he'll have plenty of other opportunities to represent Sweden in future tournaments. So yeah, he's he's he's a young kid, yeah. Um, and then next bit of uh bad news is uh McTavish got a really random injury, I believe it was the game against Colorado, where he he warmed up, he was warming up with the team, and then that last minute um he was a game decision and he got scratched due to an upper body injury. Um, and so Janet Harkins actually had to take his spot in the lineup. So Jenkins Harkins was the number one center for that game. Um and then McTavish flew back to Anaheim um because he's dealing with the injury. Coach Q said he is making progress and might join the team on the trip again. So we'll see what happens. Hopefully, he feels better, you know, and and stuff with that. But like I said, we I just wasn't expecting us to have this many injuries and then the streak run, you know, kind of a little spoiler alert, but um kind of like a happy sad kind of thing at the same time because you're like happy that your team's doing well, but you're like, why were we losing those nine games when we had all those players? So um, but last bit of news, we're gonna end on a good note is Jackson Lacombe was named to Team USA for the Olympics. He's gonna replace Seth Jones. Um, I believe Seth Jones got hit with a puck, I believe, during the the winter classic game. So, and I I was kind of hoping to see Seth Jones at the Olympics. I thought he deserved to be on the Olympic team. So uh but it sucks that it happened, but I'm happy for Jackson Lacomb. And I know a lot of people were mad that Adam Fox or Lane Hudson didn't get the first call to represent Team USA, but I know Adam Fox is still dealing with an injury, and especially since Seth Jones is a right-handed shot and Jackson is a left-handed shot defenseman. Um, but I think I'm I'm happy that Lacombe is getting this chance, and I know why he's getting the chance, because I believe Bill Guerin said that we're not going on next best player, we're going off the next best that replaces that player. You know, so like because why would you replace Lane Hudson is a good defenseman, but he's probably not as good defensively as Lacomb is. Now, if like Quinn Hughes went down or Rowensky went down, I'm pretty sure Lane Hudson's the first call. Because that's who you can have as your uh power play quarterback. So, but like I said, I'm happy for Jackson Lacomb, and now we have someone to root for on Team USA. So that's it for Ducks News.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay, let's move on to King's news. So her David Pignoda, Connor Garland, and Evander King are two names to keep an eye on for the Kings. Your thoughts, Kings fans? Would you like one or the other? I mean, one is a we hate we hated Corey Perry too, and he's been a nice addition even at 40, 41 years old. Um also Andre Lee uh Lee has been loaned to the Ontario Reign. And um old news, Kemper hurt again in the crease with a collision with Johnny Brodzinski. What I don't understand is how does this keep happening and there's not a penalty call. I mean, they're supposed to be protected, and it doesn't, I mean, that's it's like the second or third time Kemper's been out because of a collision. So just throwing that out there. I don't complain nearly as much as you do about the refereeing, but they you need to protect the goalkeepers from getting hit like that. I mean, it it's in the rules also. This is on better new uh better kings news.

SPEAKER_01:

Brant Clark starting to play to his potential. Now on on the other side of that, QB. It's your turn. Let's do it. Let's come on. You were the you were a second pick in the draft.

SPEAKER_02:

We need you to start playing like it. Without you, we're not a playoff team. So you need to step it up because we're we're out of the playoff hunt as of. I think right now we might be tied after well, spoiler alert there. We might be tied. Just put it that way.

unknown:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, on to other great news. Carter George with a record-breaking goalie goal. That's George's second goal of his career, making him the highest scoring goalie in OHL history. So I am gonna take a one-second break. Oh, maybe not a one-second, maybe maybe a minute or two break.

SPEAKER_01:

Cody in the NHL, who is the all-time goalie goal leader?

SPEAKER_02:

All-time goalie goal leader.

SPEAKER_00:

And you you do know who this is. I do know. Is this he's not currently playing anymore, right? Correct. Recently retired? Not recently.

SPEAKER_02:

Recently would be the last few years if not.

SPEAKER_00:

If I okay, um next question, then this will probably give it away. Has this goalie played both of our teams in a Stanley Cup final?

SPEAKER_02:

Who did you guys play in the Stanley Cup final?

SPEAKER_00:

The Devils in 03.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And then um Senators in 07.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

Um, does it rhyme with odor?

SPEAKER_02:

It does.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay, Martin Broder.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay, so how many?

SPEAKER_00:

I'm gonna say four. Incorrect. Am I call like over or under what I just said? Over. Seven.

SPEAKER_02:

You're over.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, I was oh, I was over. So he had three.

SPEAKER_02:

Over.

SPEAKER_00:

Two.

SPEAKER_02:

Two. He's the only one with two. There are seventeen other goalies with one goal. Wow.

SPEAKER_00:

Anyways, so we'll go back to King King's Deuce. Well, before we do that, I think we owe it to Carter George to see the goal. Let's do it. So here it is. Actually, I don't even think this is the right one.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, was it an empty netter?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, I mean, yeah. Let's see. I'm having issues. Are we gonna play or no? I guess it doesn't want to work right now.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, there it goes.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, is this the one? No, this is not the one. This was the first one he had. Oh. Alright, let me find the right one. Shall I go on with news then? Yeah, keep going. I will pull up the other one.

SPEAKER_02:

So other king good kings news, Trevor Moore is actually is back and played tonight against the St. Louis Louis. That's good news. Hopefully, if he's like the Trevor Moore, a healthy Trevor Moore. And here is something I saw and I it was intriguing. I mean, because you have to think about this one, because obviously this player's team isn't playing very well. The Kings aren't playing very well, and you know, sometimes you just need to shake it up. Could Austin Matthews be on the Kings radar? Kings fan. Who would you be willing to trade to get him?

SPEAKER_00:

Honestly, I'm like, if I were the Kings, I would not be trading because you're gonna be worse even with you're gonna have nothing, no depth after Austin Matthews. We don't really have depth now. So okay, you don't have depth now, so you think adding Matthews to even less is gonna make you better?

SPEAKER_02:

Not necessarily.

SPEAKER_00:

And I have the goal, by the way. I have the goal, right? So let's watch some. So this is with his new town, uh new new town, new team. Gets the puck, and pretty much almost one times it. Right. And he gets it. Oh, here's a good shot right here. Boom, right?

SPEAKER_02:

But he got traded to a much better team. Well, does he and he is playing fantastic there? Um, he just was on a pretty crappy team and yet still was an all-star last year. Um because of the, I mean, just because he was that good. And we saw him in the rookie face-off. He definitely uh, you know, the the the Kings rookie team beat the Ducks one only because Carter George was fantastic, because they got totally outplayed by the the Ducks uh rookie teams that uh when we were there. So let's get on to league news, Cody. Did you want to start or you want me to? Um I'll start.

SPEAKER_00:

Let's see. Um, so one of the trade targets is off the board, one of the top defenseman targets. Uh Vegas. Of course he goes to Vegas. Um, but there was rumblings last weekend that he was going to either Boston, Ottawa, and there was one. I know Vegas was in there, and there was another team, but I hear Boston Boston was like was right there. They had there was a trade in place, but I guess Boston didn't want to do it because it wasn't coming with an extension. So uh Rasmus Anderson from the Flames gets traded to Vegas, and Calgary did um retain 50% on that deal. Uh Calgary receives uh defenseman Zach Whitecloud, defenseman Abram Weeb, a 2027 first round pick, and a 2027 conditional second. And the condition is if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup, it becomes a 28 2028 first round pick. So there's a chance if Vegas wins this year, the Calgary will have 2026, 2027, and 2028 Vegas' first round picks. Wow. And since Vegas has been a team, they've traded away either every first round pick they've made or traded the pick that they got in that first round. There's only one player remaining. Um, his name is Trevor Connolly. He's a I he I don't think he's played for Vegas yet, but I know Vegas is looking to make more moves, so I wouldn't be shocked if he's one of those moves. So yeah, so Vegas hasn't really had a first round pick that they've selected or had since 2017. Like I said, only the only one that's available. Uh I was I can't remember if it was 2023 or 2024 was Trevor Trevor Connolly. I want to say it was 2023. 24. So that's just crazy. That I mean, that's it. I mean, I wish I had I should have looked this up, but on what Vegas has gotten with those first round picks. Because I know they've gotten like Max Pacioretti, they've gotten um you know Rasmus Anderson, they've gotten I want to say Thomas Hurdle, they've gotten I think Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, Noah Hanaffin. Noah Hanniphon, thank you. That's another one.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

They've done very well with these trades. And Anderson does not is not signed an extension yet.

SPEAKER_02:

So everybody wants to play in Vegas, it's obvious.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Because a lot of these guys have uh either no trade or no move clauses.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Yet they seem to waive them for Vegas. So it helps to have a no uh state tax state.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. In an owner that's willing to spend to win. Yeah. That's true. I respect that.

SPEAKER_02:

Other news. The one of the surprise teams that's actually right there in the playoff spot is the San Jose Sharks. And they have acquired forward Kiefer Sherwood, one of uh the bigger goal scorer guys that were available from the Canucks in exchange for defenseman Cole Clayton, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2020 uh and a 2027 second-round pick. So sharks got another goal scorer to go with to Foley, and of course, uh Macklin Salabrini, who is the kid wonder right now. I mean, I know we had Sid the kid, now we got the Kid Wonder. He he I mean who wouldn't want him on this on their team. It's the Mac attack. I mean, he is a fantastic player. You know, one thing I do, I mean, even though when he beats us, I love to watch him play. He is so talented.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I I mean he he could be a record breaker of some sort. Maybe in the future, we'll see.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. I would be shocked. Uh I I was shocked that the Sharks made the move. But I I knew the Ducks were in on him, and there was uh Boston and then one other team. But uh, like I said, I'm glad that the Ducks didn't spend those two second-round picks, and like like again, there's no extension on this deal either. So and then uh speaking of I don't know why I said that, but Senators goaltender Linus Olmark speaks out about his mental health. So I believe last week I told everyone like the news that was going around why he took a personal leave and people were speculating it was this or that, and I found out that um he took this personal leave because he was struggling with depression, and I guess he I wouldn't say I don't know if it was I can't remember if he said depression. I want to put words in his mouth. Um, but he was struggling ever since he got traded from Boston to Ottawa. So I guess he needed some time to you know figure everything out and you know recharge, talk to his probably spend time with his family and everything like that. So and Omar, I I hope you're doing better. I hope you come back stronger than you did before. I guess I think he's a fantastic goalie. I I hope he recovers from what he's going through, and I I I guess I hope he becomes a better person after this and he's happier.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, you know, it's it's not just him. There's a lot of people in this world that are struggling with you know issues uh similar to that, which you know it it it's it's sad that you know somebody with his kind of talent and you know it they can't can't always help how they feel, and sometimes they just need time to to let the scars heal, and that's what he's doing. I hope he comes back with a you know just a a wonderful attitude, and you know, obviously the skill set he showed in Boston, and I I wish him nothing but the best because uh that's hard to deal with. It really is, and and a lot of people will make fun of it. It's a very serious thing.

SPEAKER_00:

So anyway, everyone's saying, like, you know, oh, like what does he have to complain about? He's making all this money playing hockey. I'm like, at the same time, like you know, he just got he was playing with probably his best friend in a in a place that he wanted to play was Boston, and then he got traded to Ottawa. Yeah, he signed an extension there, but you know, he had to uproot his family from Boston to Ottawa, you know, find a new house, find new schools for his kids, and and everything like that. And I know it's it's that's not easy, and then also everything with you know, like being away from your family for the long periods of times and stuff like that, so and injuries, you know, that that can all that can get to anyone.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, so we what we don't know is what you know his family could be struggling, and because of that, he was struggling.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, we had a speaker at church today that talked about um issues that they had with the family that were very hard for them, and how they had to persevere through that. And even though they didn't do a lot of the right things, they were blessed enough that it turned out okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, but they went through a hard time and um I don't hope I hope nobody oh yeah, he's rich, you know.

SPEAKER_02:

Tell him to get over it. I mean, it's hard to get over how you feel sometimes. You know, sometimes you need someone to help you with that, and I hope he gets all the help he needs, comes back and plays great because you know hockey's better with a healthy old mark playing.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm gonna leave it at that. Let's move on to the next part of news. The Bruins have signed forward Alex Steves to a two-year 1.625 million AAV contract extension. Congratulations! A new contract gets to play two more years.

SPEAKER_00:

He's been a good player for them, so congratulations to Steve on that. What an interesting last name, but uh he's been playing very well since he's been there. Alright, uh, next up, sorry, I'm trying to find other things. Um The Buffalo Sabres have signed Josh Doan, that's right, son of former Phoenix Coyote, Arizona Coyote legend. Uh Josh Doan to a seven-year$6.95 million AAV contract extension. You know, you know what's crazy is how Kevin Adams got fired, and this is one of the last moves he probably did was that trade. He traded JJ Peterka to Utah for Josh Stone and Michael Kessering. I know Kessering hasn't really played much because of injuries, but I've heard he's gonna be a top four defenseman.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that could be a good one. He's a right-handed shot defenseman. And and Buffalo's playing lights out right now.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So they're looking, they're looking to be are they're already in a playoff spot, I think. I haven't looked at the playoff or the uh standings here lately. We could have been depressing to be a Kings fan and look at the standings.

SPEAKER_00:

So honestly, like I after the new year, I wanted to look up the standings, but during the that losing streak for the ducks, I didn't on I didn't want to look at the yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, the the Sabres were one of the hottest teams for a while, and I think they're still playing pretty well.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So on to other league news. Elliot Friedman reports that the New York Rangers are listening to offers for Alexis Lafreniere. They're looking for I think the Rangers are gonna be big time sellers at the trade deadline.

SPEAKER_00:

A trade proposal for you. Would you which team says no if they do? Would you do Alexis Lafeniere for Shane Wright straight up?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, for Seattle?

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. It's obviously both guys need a change of scenery. Excuse me.

SPEAKER_02:

That's a that's a good question. Well, Shane Wright's at least playing on the NHL club now. Yes, you know, after being the conscientious number one supposed little pick that dropped a four and then couldn't find playing time with Seattle. He is in the lineup now. He made a great pass early. Was it earlier today or yesterday for a goal? It made a nice assist.

SPEAKER_00:

That was yesterday against the Ducks, and it was great. I will say it was a great play by him.

SPEAKER_02:

But both players, you know, I don't know if I'd say no, because I think they both need a change of scenery. A change of scenery sometimes makes a huge difference in how a player might play.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Which, you know, a lot of people are are pushing like the kings. Oh, get rid of Byfield. And what would scare me is that he would go someplace else and become the player we all thought he might be. And again, he's 23 years old. That's the sad thing. He's still that young. He's still he in two years, 25. Most guys don't make it to the NHL to 25, the average one. So he's got two more years to grow, and he does a lot of things well. Right now, it's just offense is killing him. So, anyways, let's go back to news. I got off on a thing again, so sorry.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, we're talking hockey, so uh the Devils have placed defenseman Luke Hughes on LTIR with a shoulder injury. So I believe it was one shoulder last year. Now it's a different shoulder this year. Boy, the Hughes brothers in injuries. I would say it's the devils in injuries.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, well, they've had quite a few. Well, that's both Jack and Luke missing games. So on other news, the senators forward David Perron is out five to seven weeks. Needs surgery for a sports hernia. Ouch. I had her I had a uh hernia operation. I'm not sure if it would be considered a sports hernia, but yeah. Seven weeks minimum. Well, of course, I was older, so he he probably recoupes faster than an old man would, so yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And then last bit, uh actually, well, not the last bit, because I got two videos I want to share after this. Um, but the Islanders AHL affiliate club, the Bridgeport Islanders are reportedly set to move to Hamilton, Ontario, starting with the 2026-2027 AHL season. So I'm gonna see if I could share this video. So me sharing this video, this is what I want people to start doing is you audio listeners, come to YouTube, hit the subscribe button, like the video, and that way you can watch the videos that I'm about to show. So here we go. So this happened at an AHL game a couple weeks ago. You got kids fighting during an intermission game. I'm sorry, where are these kids' parents? And a segment or I had to call, where are your guardians at? Yeah, just all fight, all just broke out. Like they're look, they're supposed to be playing, and kids are still fighting. This this was another one, another one, but I just can't believe that even happened. And then the next one is I'm pretty sure what everyone wants to see. We had a goalie goal. Or goalie. Sorry, we had a goalie goal, and now we're gonna see a goalie fight. So this was between the Florida Panthers and the San Jose Sharks. Here we go.

SPEAKER_02:

Is that is Babrovsky in the fight?

SPEAKER_00:

You'll see someone gets you'll see someone get stripped in the corner. Wait, just wait. Then you see it look at, and then Nadelkovich goes in, and just look how hot Bobrovsky comes in. He comes in flying. Just wait. Oh, there he is. Boom. Boom. Yeah. Let's go, boys. Yeah, get the mask off. There you go. There you go. I'm I'm so glad the refs let him have it. Yeah, but imagine trying to fight with all that gear on. They they don't uh I want to see if they should look look look at Macklin. Look how look how happy he is. Did you see that?

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm gonna go back. Look, look, look. Let's see if I can pause it. Look at look at Macklin right here. Look how happy he is. He's yelling. I just thought I had something we have to show on the podcast. I'm just I'm just saying. Because when we went to the Ducks Kings game, when we took Shane for his first hockey game, and that was a game that um Copley got kicked out of. And honestly, I want to say it was one of the coolest moments just seeing Gibson slap the stick coming down the ice. And you know how many times I want to say I don't I see that video at least once a week of Gibson just skating down ice because they're saying it's like one of the cold, like when they say the coldest moments, they also mean like one of the most badass moments because you see Gibson just tap like slapping the stick down to get Copley's attention to fight, and then you see when Copley comes up and starts skating over, Gibson just drops a stick and starts taking off the gloves. Like, I mean, come on. That was awesome, and I'm so mad that the refs ruined that for us.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they wouldn't let Copley go. Um, I think they should have let him go. And after the fight, um, we would have got a power play for instigating the fight.

SPEAKER_00:

So I can't remember who won that. You wouldn't have gotten a power play because Copley got a penalty. Oh no, he got a penalty after that. Well, he got kicked out.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, yeah, because he you you can't hit somebody with your blocker. It was the first time in like seven years that penalty had been called. I think we looked that up. Yeah, but I'm not gonna I'm not gonna quote that. But that was fun. That was fun. Do you remember who won the game? Kings won the game 2-1, right? Or something like that.

SPEAKER_00:

I believe the Kings won, because it doesn't sound yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

That's the guys were were still struggling.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh god, I almost say I think I was still saying oh god, which was that the year that I was saying tank hard for Bedard.

SPEAKER_02:

Might have been.

SPEAKER_00:

Or say uh pain for Shane, because Shane Wright, because he was supposed to be the number one pick. Might have been.

SPEAKER_02:

I can't remember, Cody. It's been a while ago, but all right.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, that's it for League News. Now let's get into game recaps. And we're gonna do the first one together.

unknown:

Oh.

SPEAKER_00:

Because it happened just last Saturday. Oh, so I'm gonna say this about one game, uh, one thing before we start. You guys deserve to lose that game if you guys couldn't score with all those penalties. That's all I'm gonna say.

SPEAKER_02:

So I'm okay. Yeah, I agree with that, but you outshot us almost double.

SPEAKER_00:

That's another thing that okay, here's the thing. We were down what ten minutes shorthanded in that second period, and you guys only had eight shots on goal with ten minutes of power play time, and you had almost a two full minutes of a five on three.

SPEAKER_02:

So before you go on, uh let's all root fire Noel Brown. Let's get somebody in that can do the power play for the Kings. I mean, I still can't believe we brought him in after he sucked for the ducks, but we did. Um, Keith, it's just doing wonders for you. I I I I you're talking about a very frustrated Kings fan. You know, it's sad uh because I'm also an angels fan, and it's been pretty much the same thing for the last 10 years. You know, thank god the the Rams are playing well, you know. Otherwise, I have nothing to cheer for. Except for I I'll cheer for royally quacked. Go royally quacked. So, are we gonna how are we gonna do this? Uh talk about the goals, which there wasn't many.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, uh, we can definitely do that. Uh see, let me get back to the page. So, in the first period, Mason McTavish got the scoring started in the game. At the 6-11 mark, uh, Mason McTavish got his 12th goal of the year. Assist from Olin Zellwegger, his 10th assist, and Strom's fifth assist. And the Ducks have a 1-0 lead after 1. Now we move on to the couple.

SPEAKER_02:

So then we go to the second period, and on the power play that you're talking about, we actually did score at least one. Adrian Kempe with a 16th from Fiala, his 17th assist, and Kuzmenko his 10th assist to tie the game at 1 to 1. Then we go to Mom says mom says you can always root for the ducks.

SPEAKER_00:

Wait, mom says you can always root for the ducks.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, mom can say whatever she wants, but doesn't make it true.

SPEAKER_00:

But like I said, there was, let's see. Here's the second period. At the 421 mark, good as two minutes for tripping. It was not a trip. 428, so seven seconds later, Trubo, two minutes for slashing Kempe. Wasn't a slash. So two a full two minutes, and that's when you scored, you almost say you scored on the five on three. Then you had a Drew Hellison at 6.47, two minutes for holding. It was a hold. Um, 1129, Cutter Gautier, two minutes for slashing. I don't remember that one. And then at 1523, Ross Johnston, two minutes for tripping. It wasn't a trip. Because both times, the the radical goodist one and the Ross Johnson, the tripping one, it was stick on stick. I know that sounds really bad the way I said that, but it was hockey stick on hockey stick, and the player tripped over their stick. Does that make sense? I'm not trying to do that. Yes, okay. Let's move on.

SPEAKER_02:

I would have I would have to see that, and I mean I don't think they would have that.

SPEAKER_00:

Unfortunately. So I mean I also so yes, as you're saying, we were going to overtime. Yeah. And I want to say we probably had the play of the year that happened. How this game ended. I got an energizer bunny ad playing right now. Alright, here we go. See if I can make it bigger. Share. Alright, let's see. Make sure the sound is off so we don't get in trouble. So Lacomb shoots, and then it comes all the way down, and Fiala gets the puck, has a breakaway. And the play by Lacomb, uh, not Lacomb. Beckett Seneca by a 19-year-old kid to make this play was incredible. Was just absolutely incredible. Let's see if I can. Let's see if I can. Where is the play? So this play right here. Watch Beckett, the stick lift, and then to pass the puck backwards. And it goes off the board to Granlin, and then Beckett comes over here right away to get to take to get the two-on-one, and Grant Granny puts it in. I'm sorry. A 19-year-old kid made that play. He's played very well. He's probably been our either first or second most consecutive forward for the Ducks. Consecutive? Or consistent. Consistent. Consistent. That's what I meant. Potato potato. Remember, English is my like my eighth language. Yeah. So what's number one?

SPEAKER_02:

Everybody wants to know. What's your number one language?

SPEAKER_00:

Um, I can't say it because you wouldn't even know what it is, anyways.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh gibberish, probably.

SPEAKER_00:

No, because people know people know what gibberish is. Mine's like a special kind of special. Yeah. But the ducks win in overtime. We win the season series. Three games to one. And all three were in uh overtime or more. So what we need to do every time is to get going overtime and we'll beat the kings. But I don't want that because the kings are always getting a point, but it seems like the kings just love overtime and shootouts.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes. So let's let's talk about the stats for the game, and that's where I think maybe some of the difference in because obviously they were one for six in the power play. That was obviously another reason why they lost this game. Yeah, but they were out shot 33 to 18. They were out hit what 30 to 21. Out block shot 22 to 9. Um the Kings gave away 13 pucks. They only gave away 10. The only thing we beat you in was the eight takeaways. You only had three. So we won.

SPEAKER_00:

And we beat the Kings in face-off percentage 55 to 45. I rounded it up. So that's fine. But now the only thing I'm gonna make fun of about this game, and then we'll do the three stars and we'll move on. For Adrian Kempe to to do a celebration, the celebration he did, one, you were out on an away game, two, you were losing that game, and you only scored because the refs gave you a five on three power play, and he did this penalty all to lose in the game. And you guys were getting, I'm sorry, but the ducks were outplaying you the whole almost that whole game. They did outplay him. So for Kempe to to do that was not the right move. And I and I love Kempe. I will say, as a Ducks fan, I love him when as long as he's not playing the Ducks, but that celebration you should only be doing if it's an overtime winner, or like you ice the game kind of thing. I have spoken. Ooh.

unknown:

I've spoken.

SPEAKER_00:

So yeah, we already did the stats.

SPEAKER_02:

Um three stars.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, three stars, but I want to give it up to the the goalies for this game. Both goalies played phenomenal in this game. I'm gonna say that. Forsberg played fantastic. He had 31 saves on 33 shots, and then Husso was in there, and he stopped 17 of 18. I just want to give it up for the the goalies because Forsberg played outstanding for you guys.

SPEAKER_02:

He did, he was one of the better players for sure. Kept us on the game.

SPEAKER_00:

I do give my kudos out to that, and the three stars of the game were all ducks. Um Husso was the number three star with a 944 save percentage. Um, and like I said, the 17 out of 18 uh saves, and then Mason McTavish was the number two star with the one goal and the one point, and then number one star was Michael Granny Granlin with the game-winning goal in overtime, and he's our number one star.

SPEAKER_02:

There you go.

SPEAKER_00:

And then I'll do my next one because I have more games than you this week. You do. So the Ducks hosted the original six New York Islanders, and the Ducks win this one to get their fourth in a row, and a little belated happy birthday to Cutter Goatey himself. He turns 22 that day. Um, let's just say it didn't start very well when Matthew Robertson in the first period gets his third goal of the year on a goal that Dolstall should have stopped. I'm gonna just tell you this now. Dolstal should have made the stop. But Mason McTavish at the 1131 mark gets his 13th of the year to tie it up 1-1, and Pavel Mitchikov gets his seventh assist on that one, and we're tied 1-1 after one. And then we move on to the second period, and then I was about to say Panarin on the power play gets his 19th of the year to make it 2-1 New York, and I'm gonna not gonna I'm not gonna lie, it was a fantastic shot by Panarin. I'm like, I wasn't even mad about that one. He just pulled like uh placed it upper corner. It was just beautiful shot, and then newcomer Jeffrey Viel with this first goal as a duck ties it up for us at the 829 mark. Uh Paling with his 13th assist of the year. So we're tied 2-2 right now, and then Alex Kalorn on the power play, his fifth of the year, Truba's 13th assist of the year, makes it 3-2 Anaheim at the 1802 mark on a back-handed shot. And then we go into the third period up 3-2, and who else other than Cutter Gautier gets his 21st goal of the season, just a little over a minute into the third to make it 4-2. Drew Hellison with his eighth assist of the year, and then someone that you are kind of familiar with, Vladistov Gavirkoff gets his eighth of the year on the power play. Since Fox is out, Gaverkoff is the number one, so it's 4-3 Anaheim at the 7-Eleven mark, and then the New York pulled their goalie, and sure enough, Cutter Gautier gets the empty netter to make it his 22nd goal of the year to make it 5-3 Anaheim to ice the game, and that was the comb's 25th assist of the year. So Cutter Gautier on his birthday, on his 22nd birthday, gets two goals and makes it his 22nd goal of the year. So 22 and 22. 22nd birthday, 22 goals. So congratulations to Cutter on that. Um, let's see. Let me go to the box score. Let's get the stats for Mr. Dolstall because he played fantastic, other than that one goal. Um, he had 19 saves on 22 shots. Like I said, played fantastic. Big time saves, but we're gonna there's gonna be more on that later. Um, the stats 26 shots on goal for Anaheim, 22 for New York. We did lose the face-off percentage, uh 46 uh to 54. Power plays, uh, New York was two for Ford, the Ducks were one for three. We did out hit them 29 to 20. New York had more block shots, 14 to 11, 20 giveaways for Anaheim, 18 for New York, seven giveaways for Anaheim, and five for New York. And the ducks sweep the season series against the New York Rangers two games to none. And our three stars of the game, you have Jacob Truba with the assist and for one point as the number three star, Ryan Paling uh with the one assist for one point as the number two star, and your number one is the birthday boy himself. Two goals for two points on his 22nd birthday, and made it 22 goals for the season. So that is it for our second game of the week.

SPEAKER_02:

We started off with only two games, but somehow we miraclely uh started this one so late we could put in uh Saturday's game into the mix for us, but now I'm gonna talk about the Rangers also. Uh playing the Rangers, uh first period. Who who scores our first goal? It's one of two guys most of the time. Adrian Kempe gets a 17th from Brand Clark is 18th, and Corey Perry is 14th. 18 seconds into the game, Kings are up one to nothing. But you know, we give up, we get a goal, we give up a goal. Will Cooley got his 11th from Morrow his 6th, and is that Laba? Leba his eighth on a deflection at the 18-18 or the 8-18 mark to tie the game 1-1. Then Fiala gets his 18th unassisted at the night uh at the nine-minute mark to put the kings up 2-1. But then again, what do we do? We give up a goal, we get a goal, we give up a goal. JT Miller gets his 12th from Sabanajet is 27th, and Schneider is eighth at the 1636 mark, and we go in after one period tied 2-2. So we go to the second period, and Taylor Ward, who just got called up, gets his first. Um hold on a second, I just accidentally moved the screen. Um, gets his first from Melot, his second, and Helanius his first. So guys who weren't even playing at the start of the season, these three are uh seem to be aligned. Uh that's at the 423 mark, so the kings are up three to two. Then Andre Kuzmenko gets his tenth from Fiala, his 18th, and Turk cod his ninth. And after two periods, the Kings lead 4-2.

SPEAKER_01:

But just like typical Kings.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, this is seems to be like I feel it's like if you ever watched in the old days Hulk Hogan, he was always losing for the longest period of time, and then all of a sudden, the comeback he rips off the shirt and he wins. That that's what kind of happens. So um we go to the third period, and um JT Miller gets his 13th from Gaverkop his ninth, and Trochek is 21st. This is at the 1933 mark. We seem to suck towards the end of the game. We always seem to give up. The miracle was in this game, we didn't actually give go to overtime. We end up winning it 4-3 without going to overtime. I know what, yeah, shocking, right? Let's go to the stats. You want to talk about getting wiped out on face-offs? 71.4 percent for the Rangers, 28.6 for the Kings. We were 0 for 3 in the power play. They were 0 for 2, they outhit us 24-15. They did 21 block shots. We had 14. We gave away 15 to 14, and then on the uh takeaways, we won 7-2. Let's go to the three stars of the game. Uh, Taylor Ward, third star, got his first goal of the season. Um, second star, Kevin Fiala with a golden assist, and the number one star Forersberg again with another great game. Uh with a 964 save percentage was the number one star. So on to your next game, Cody.

SPEAKER_00:

We're gonna try something different with this game. Are we? I'm gonna give you the stats first. I'm not gonna tell you which team has what. And I want you to guess on the stats I give you on which team won. All right, team A, 41 shots on goal, team B, 40. Sorry. 41 shots for team A, 16 for team B. Okay. Team A, 55% face-off percentage, team B, 45. Uh both teams were 0 for on the power play, so what that's a wash. Uh team A, 16 hits, team B, 27, team A, 15 block shots, team B, 24, team A, 24 giveaways and 7 takeaways, and team B 13 giveaways and 5 takeaways. And who won? Team B. And who won? Team B. And team B because it's your Anaheim Ducks. So the Ducks, I'm not gonna lie, the ducks got lucky in this one. Um, there was no score in the first period, by the second period, and uh let's just say, Pat for Beek. I I I'm gonna say, I I I see what you're doing. I will Jeffrey Viel in his third game has a fight and two goals, and he gets the goal for us this game, his second of the year. Cutter Gode with his 21st assist and Gudis with his ninth assist to make it one nothing Anaheim, and that was at the 127 mark on a wrist shot in the second period. And here's a little stat for you. So it's one nothing after two periods. This was the first game all year that the Avalanche didn't got shut out in two in um going into the third period. First game all year. Hey, you're talking about the number one team in hockey right now, the number one team in hockey, and they're just a wagon right now, but and they didn't score. Till the 1621 mark, Arturia Lekinen ties it up 1-1. That ruins the shoutout. At least this time, Brian or John did not jinx it. So, because I I want to say that it's happened two to three times the last couple years, where one of them will be like, oh yeah, well, Dostall or Gibson, you know, they're they've stopped everything. They look like a brick wall in there. They're getting they're gonna get the shutout. And then like a minute later, boom, goal. Um, so we're tied one-one, and Dostall, bro, let me tell you, he was Dostwall this game. Like, this kind of performance, if Checkia can be some serious contenders in the Olympics if Dostall plays like that. And let's just say this game happened and McCar and McKinnon were held pointless in this game. Um, but we go into overtime, and I can tell you this Dole Stahl and Scott Wedgewood both stood on their head in overtime, but no one scores in overtime, so we go into shootout. So who and think about it in this game, no Terry, no Carlson, no McTavish. So those are our three shootout guys. So we're gonna have our top three shootout guys, but yeah, Mikhail Grandlin leads us off, boom, wrist shot, goal. Brock Nelson comes in, wrist shot, denied by Dostall. Beckett Seneca comes up and just misses his shot. Um, so we're still 1-0. Uh Anaheim, then Martin His comes in, denied by Dostal. And then Cutter Gautier comes in, goes five-hole for the shootout winner. Ducks win in shootout in Colorado.

SPEAKER_02:

Now that's a that's a big victory right there.

SPEAKER_00:

That's a huge victory. So that's the ducks' fifth straight win. And I'm and Dostal, 40 saves on 41 shots, a 976 save percentage. Now, I'm gonna tell you this. McKinnon, uh time on ice, 29.18 was a minus one. Kale McCarr, 29.50, 29.51, minus one. Two top five players in the world pretty much played half the game, and the ducks win. I'm a proud ducks fan after that game. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna deny. So I'm not gonna deny that.

SPEAKER_02:

I will this this would have been really sweet if you would have predicted them to win that game. Honestly, but you didn't. Could would be that would have totally no, but that would have been totally sweet if you did. I mean, because you would have gone four and oh, four-and-o for the week. That was the one game you lost because you picked up the loose.

SPEAKER_00:

Honestly, I'm happy I'm wrong. Yeah, well, I'll take I'll take that L for that game. I will happily take that L for that one.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, well, you're kicking my butt, so it's all right.

SPEAKER_00:

But let's go into the three stars of the game, and all of them were well-deserved three stars. Um, Scott Wedgewood was the number three star with a 938 save percentage. Like I said, he he's been something this year, man. He's been great for Colorado. Uh call uh Cutter Gaudi was a number two star with the one assist and one point, and the number one star, who else? The man that had 40 saves on 41 shots, a 976 save percentage. Lukash Dostwall. Ooh, and can you devoise the D voice? Can you believe that someone in Toronto called him a no-name goalie? And you know what? I hope that reporter is the main reporter for Team Canada, and Dostal shuts the door on Canada in the in the lymphatic.

SPEAKER_02:

Boy, you're you're asking for a lot there.

SPEAKER_00:

I I know I'm asking, but can you imagine?

SPEAKER_02:

And that's you're talking Canada's best.

SPEAKER_00:

That's gonna be Czechia has a good squad too.

SPEAKER_02:

They do. I'm I'm just saying, you you're talking when you go to the Olympics or you go to these, you know, world championships, uh the the face-off like we had last year, you're talking about the best players from each of those countries to get a shutout is that's not easy.

SPEAKER_00:

No, you're you're you're 100% right.

SPEAKER_02:

I was not easy for anybody, and um, and I know Wedgewood's one of my goalies on my fantasy team. I gotta he's played great this year, you know, and I think I I didn't even have him at the start of the year.

SPEAKER_00:

I didn't have him or Ottinger, and I picked them up, and obviously someone dumped Ottinger. Yep.

SPEAKER_02:

Don't have to go.

SPEAKER_00:

I'd have to go back and look. But anyways, but all right, well, that was it for that game. I'm I I'm not gonna deny we goied the Colorado Avalanche.

SPEAKER_02:

So you did now on to the game for me for the game for tonight. It's the Kings and the Blues. I think I spoiled it already that uh Trevor Moore's back. Um, and that's been he's been out a while. But let's go to the scoring. So first period. Who gets his second goal of the year? But the X, no, I was gonna say X Angel. Uh Taylor Ward gets his second from the lot his third, and Helanius a second. The same fourth line gets the first goal of the game at the 431 mark. It's 1-0 Kings, and that's how the first period ended, fans. But now you go to the second period, and what happens? We score for once and take a two-goal lead. But who scores is first goal of the year? Brian Dumelin, X Duck, from La Ferriere is 11th, and Kimpe is 22nd, and it's 2-0 Kings. But of course, that can't continue, right? Because we're the Kings, and we gotta let everybody back in the game. Uh Dvorsky gets his 9th from Stenberg of 7th, and Joseph is 9th at the 214 mark, and it's 2-1 kings. Then on the power play, Braden Shen gets his 10th from Bukovich? Buk Buknevich, right? Buknevich. Buknevich and Snuggerood at the 630 mark on a two uh to make it a 2-2. Now, what I want to tell you, I'm trying to remember who it was, but we were down short-handed, and the goalie grabs uh whoever I think it was uh La Ferriere. It was yeah, LaFerrier stick holds him back, and they they get a uh a five on three rush and score that goal. And you talk about the referee, the goalie you they showed the replay, he held the stick for a good three or four seconds, just enough time to clear the field for for to go on five on three. But you know what? That's part of the game, yeah. So then, of course, you know, we were up 2-0, they tied it 2-2. Jordan Cairo, uh future duck, according to Cody, gets his 10th from Malow is second, and Fowler, ex mighty mighty duck, uh Cam Fowler, a 17th assist at the 8-10 mark, and St. Louis is up 3-2. Then Alex LaFerri Air on a very beautiful play from Corey Perry gets his 13th, Perry's 15th, and uh Anderson's seventh assist. But Perry looked like he was going away, passed it back to LaFerrier. Everybody was going with Perry, and he tucks it into the corner to tie the game up 3-3. So now we're gonna go to the third period. And the guy just off the injured list, Trevor Moore, gets a sixth from Brant Clark is 19th, and Joel Armia is 9th at the 11:34 mark, and we're up 4-3. But what do I tell you happens every time we're this late in the third period? We give up the game tying goal. Jordan Cairo, future duck, according to Cody again from Falk is uh uh Justin Falk got his 13th assist at the 1750 mark. So only two ten left in the game. We let it go tied, and it it stays that way, and we go to overtime, and it's not settled in the overtime. And so we we lose most of these shootouts, but we have what Trevor Moore just off the injured lift. He scores, or no, I try to get back, Adrian Kempe scores, puts us up one to nothing. Then uh Jake Neighbors uh gets shut down by uh Kemper, and so we're up one to nothing. Then Brant Clark goes, and it wasn't one of Brand Clark's best ones. Um, it was kind of a I thought a weak attempt by Brant Clark. But um then Dvorski on a backhand ties it up, and then who scores on the uh oh no, Fiala comes up and doesn't score. Kairou didn't score, but Dvorski tied it more scores as the fourth guy in, and then Snuggeroo gets shut down by Kimper. We win in a shootout four to three. Yes, Kings fan miracle, we won a game. Yay!

SPEAKER_00:

Go Kings, and once again, Kings go into overtime.

SPEAKER_02:

It it seems like I think we're like at 70 of our games go to overtime or 68, something like that. It's crazy. That's crazy.

SPEAKER_00:

Um, Kevin's in the chat setup on the screen looks great tonight. Technical wizard code. I wouldn't say technical wizard, but I probably appreciate that, Kevin. Thanks, Kevin. Nice to see you. Nice to see you joining us. Um before I go into our last game, I'm uh it's gonna give away like give away the game, but uh, I'm gonna talk about the game first. Let's talk about the game first. So the ducks head over to Seattle. I believe it's the Emerald City. Is Seattle the Emerald City? Is that the nickname? I thought it was us. So, anyways, so Cutter Gautier gets the scoring started, getting his 23rd goal of the season. What a nice play this was driving down the um the ice and then goes like backhand to forehand very fast with using his speed, puts it, puts it in the net behind Grubauer, and Cutter scores, makes it one-nothing Anaheim, like I said, at the 102 mark. Jeffrey Veal again he gets his first assist as a duck. Uh Pavel Minchikov gets a secondary assist. That was his eighth assist of the year. So it's one-nothing Anaheim, and then uh the ducks are on a power play, or sorry, not a power. The ducks are on a penalty kill. And Ryan Paling gets a goal. I believe it was was it, I believe it was a breakaway. Let me double check. I want to say it was a breakaway. It was a nice place, uh, nice play by Ian Moore. Yeah, it's pretty much it was pretty much uh a breakaway, but Paling makes a nice move and scores short-handed, and that's his fourth goal of the year, Ian Moore's sixth assist. So the ducks are up 2-0 after one. We go into the second period, and then Jared McCann gets his 12th of the year to make it 2-1 ducks. But then Chris Kreider gets on the board with the 16th of the year on the power play, too, and that was four minutes in. Uh Cutter Goodie gets his 22nd assist and Lacomb's 26th assist. So now it's 3-1 Anaheim going into the third period. And I can tell you this: the Ducks were playing amazing with in those first two periods. Other than the one the goal, the Ducks were playing great. Here's the shot chart for the first two periods: 12-3 in favor of Anaheim, and then 24 to 11 uh combining between the two, the first second period. And then we go into the third period, and then it's like the Ducks forgot how to play the way they were playing the first two periods. Um, Jaden Schwartz gets on the board with his ninth goal of the year at the 154 mark in the third, and they just dominate. It was 11 to 7 shots on uh on goal in favor of Seattle in that third period. Seattle just had all the offensive zone time in that game, but like I said, Dolstal was huge, and then at the 1848 mark, Pavel Minchikov gets a sixth goal the year on the empty net. A nice little bank shot, too. Like it was uh I don't know. I was very skeptical when he you did that way, but it went in perfectly. Uh Granlin gets his 12th assist and Hellison's ninth assist, and the Ducks finally win one against Seattle this year. Um, Ducks win four to two. Here are the stats 31 to 22 uh shots on goal in favor of Anaheim, 52 to 48 face-off percentage in favor of ducks. Ducks were one for two on the power play while Seattle was 0 for 2. Um, technically they were kind of like negative one because the Ducks got a short-handed goal, but I digress. Um, 25 to 21 in hits in favor of Anaheim, 11 block shots to 10 block shots in favor of Seattle, 12 to and 11 in favor of uh Seattle on the giveaways, and then four to two on takeaways in favor of Seattle. So right now the Ducks are losing in the season series right now, two games to one, but we have one more game on January 3rd, and that one will be in Anaheim, so hopefully we can take that one too, and at least tie the season series against them. Um January 3rd. Sorry, February 3rd.

SPEAKER_03:

I probably did say yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Uh Luke Astel Stahl, like I said, was huge in this game, had 20 saves on 22 shots. All around a great game by Anaheim, three stars of the game. Uh, Jared McCann is the number three star with the one goal. Schwartz is the number two star with the one goal, and then Cutter Gaudi with the number one again with the one goal and one assist for two points. So the Ducks get their sixth straight win. Now I'm gonna show when the Ducks had their seventh game seven-game win streak, their nine-game losing streak, and their sixth game win streak right now. And I want you to I'm I want you to see how there's a a pattern. So here's the Ducks seven-game win streak they had earlier in the year. Seven games, 14 points, goals for 33, goals against 17. And that was in seven games. Goals four per uh per game percentage, or not percentage, but goals for per game, four point seven one goals against per game, two point four three. Now I'm gonna go to the nine game lose losing streak. One point in those nine games, twenty two goals for 45 goals against, 2.44 goals for per game, five goals a game per game against. I mean just pause. Sorry. I mean just well think about our goals for drop by half, and our goals against went twice as much. Yeah, like yeah, over twice as much. Now, the current six-game win streak. Six games, twelve points, um, seventeen goals for, ten goals against, not as much goals for, we have a 2.83 for our goals against per game, 1.67. We've given up 10 goals in six games, where in that losing streak, we were giving up 10 goals in two games. So huge difference there. Like I said, obviously when the ducks start playing defense, they start winning games. It's crazy. Right? Who would have gone? Miracles. Miracle, they won games. No. But that is it for the game recaps of the of the of the week. Um, now let's go into game predictions. Okay. Um, I'll let you go first.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay, we are on Monday. We're going to be in Columbus playing the Blue Jackets. And I have us losing that game for three. For three. I just honestly if we're not gonna be the playoffs, I'd like to see us get a really better draft pick and start to improve this team. I don't think we have what it takes to be any kind of sustained playoff run right now with what we have. We need to improve that. So I'm going with let's not play as well and let's get a better draft pick. It's kind of my attitude right now. And if uh I'm wrong, I'll be like Cody go, yeah, okay. I picked them to lose, but they won. Great. I'll take those. Then they're gonna go to Detroit. And you know what? They got uh uh our ex-coach there, and he's got them playing really well. Yeah, and I have the Kings losing to the Red Wings 5-2, and that's on Tuesday, so we have a back-to-back on the road, and then we go into Thursday, and we're playing the Red Hot Sabres, and the Red Hot Sabres, they're scoring a lot of goals, even against teams better than us, and I have us losing to the Sabres 6-2, just 6-2, 6-2. Wow, Jage Thompson's gonna go get a hat trick. You heard it here. Okay, all you guys make bets, and if you win, send me some of that cash, baby. Send me some of that cash.

SPEAKER_00:

It'd be nice to get a betting sponsor, but I wouldn't trust, I wouldn't say listen to us on betting.

SPEAKER_02:

No, um, I wouldn't either. I'm I'm under 500.

SPEAKER_00:

All right, so the ducks play tomorrow um against the Calgary Flames. So think about it. Calgary Flames. Yep, I that's how I said it, and I'm gonna keep saying it that way. Calgary. Um, so this is the first time the ducks are playing Calgary. We've played all four against you guys. We've played three against Seattle, and we've already played, you know, Florida, I believe Boston, Detroit, Florida. We we played all this season series against everyone, and we're just now playing Calgary. Calgary. Okay. So Anaheim Anaheim against Calgary. Uh I'm gonna go with the Anaheim uh Dukes going against the Calgary Flames, and I'm gonna say a 4-1 victory for Anaheim. Gotta add the fl the phlegm. Um God, I I've you know, to all our audio listeners, I am so sorry that you have to listen to this in your ears. What you but or both of us. All right, but uh a 4-1 win for Anaheim and against Calgary. And then the the Ducks will have a back-to-back and play their second game against Edmonton in Edmonton, and I'm predicting a 3-2 loss, and then the last game of the month will be Wednesday. I don't believe the Ducks have another game. I didn't even look to see if I was right on that.

SPEAKER_02:

They don't they just uh there's uh one more week of games before the Olympic game.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, the Ducks don't oh but the Ducks don't have a Saturday game, but they have a Sunday game, but we'll have a podcast before that, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So but we'll have we'll have predictions next week, and then after that, we'll have 20 days of no NHL hockey because of the Olympics.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, but we will still be here.

SPEAKER_02:

We'll still be here for you guys, and we'll we'll have podcasts, we'll be talking about a lot of different things, maybe have some fun guests on. Who knows if we can grab some try to yeah, that'd be great.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, so all right. Well, let me let me predict my last one against the Vancouver Canucks. Again, these are must-win games against our divisional opponents, but I'm going big. I'm going for a five-win, five-one win against the Canucks, and that will actually end our five-game road trip, too. So yeah, I'm I'm predicting the ducks go two and one this week. I would like to see it be a 2-0-1. You know, the at least an overtime loss against the Oilers. You never know. But all right, well, before we finish, who's your s who's gonna be in the Super Bowl? So you got Patriots or Broncos? And I didn't think about this until someone I saw someone make a video about it on TikTok where the Patriots always do seem to struggle against mediocre or media mediocre slash backup quarterbacks in the playoffs.

SPEAKER_02:

So this is what I think um I think this is what should happen. I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but Denver's got a really good defense. Yeah, and Drake May has not been playing very well, yet they've been winning, they've been lucky. Well, against a really good defense, that's gonna kill you. And I I have Denver beating uh New England.

SPEAKER_00:

Did Mac will be very happy that you said that.

SPEAKER_02:

And I thought about him on that too. So you heard it from me. Cody didn't say it, I did. Hopefully they'll make it there. If they don't, uh whoever goes there is gonna lose to the Rams, anyways. So I we got some we got some really let me just finish real quick here. We got some really good fans at church that are big Seattle fans, and I gotta say, you know, between the interchange between me and them has it's always been fun. We're always laughing, you know. We have no idea what's gonna happen this game. I mean, because it's the Rams have been pretty much walked on them and given up leads both times to uh uh but to lose the second time in Seattle on a two-point uh in overtime, two-point extra.

SPEAKER_00:

So mom says go Rams, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But you know what?

SPEAKER_00:

The Broncos Rams Super Bowl?

SPEAKER_02:

That's what I'm gonna say. You know, just because I'm a Rams fan, it's been a while other than the Rams winning the Super Bowl a couple years ago. I haven't had a championship since 2014. You know, besides one Ram. I've if it's gotta be the Rams twice, let's do it.

SPEAKER_00:

It's been it's been longer for me.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, you had the Rams. You're a Rams Championship.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm I uh I other than the Rams, yes, it's been longer for me. Well, I mean, I guess I can't say that because Chelsea's won Champions League, they've won Premier League, you know, so I guess I can't be too mad. But I'm uh I'm gonna say you know, for the fun of it, I'm gonna say Broncos Rams.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, you're gonna Super Bowl.

SPEAKER_00:

You're gonna steal my thunder. No, I'm I'm not stealing, I'm agreeing with you. Okay, just I don't know. I agree.

SPEAKER_02:

I I will take that. Well put.

SPEAKER_00:

I I I I I I'm not just like I said, I'm not copying you. I'm agreeing with you. Um, I I think Stafford's gonna play big in this game. Um I I I think we're gonna see a different Rams team for the better in this one.

SPEAKER_02:

So I I kept hoping that uh Donald would come out of retirement. Can you imagine if he comes out of retirement and is in the middle of the middle of the field? I mean, wow. I mean, and our defense, I mean, I gotta tell you, Seattle ate us up in that game in Seattle. I mean, we're we were winning that game and they came back and um they just made us look sick. And our I think our defense, it's young. Don't get we have a very young defense, but man, when they're on, they're tough to beat. But Seattle just uh their defense is the best in football, I think.

SPEAKER_00:

Um just saw this one video I saw on TikTok where there's they were saying, like, oh, it's a tie game, or oh the uh no, the Patriots are winning what was that 24 to 21 with two two minutes left, and Dever Broncos have the ball in their own 25. And wait, what's in the what's coming out of the corner? And you just see Peyton Manning. No, no, no, no, the Broncos are down, oh and you just see Peyton Manning coming out in the Broncos uniform.

SPEAKER_02:

I wouldn't be surprised if that would be a commercial though.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, that and I think he would definitely do that. But I I would like I said, I I would love to see I just hope for good. I I want the Rams to win, but it I just want good games in general. You know what? Except for the Seattle Rams game, I want a blowout for the Rams. I want the Rams to I want it like 56 to 2. That's not gonna happen. Or 56, or 56 to 3. That's not gonna happen.

SPEAKER_02:

I know. But but you know what's I'm I'm hoping there's probably in the Super Bowl that Subway is gonna sponsor and they're gonna have an 80-year-old uh oh god, what's his name? Why can't I think of his name? Danny DeVito beating up Eli Manning.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, you mean the Jersey Mikes commercial?

SPEAKER_02:

Jersey Mike, sorry, Subway, sorry, Jersey Mics, because those commercials are hilarious, they make me smile. I love it. You know, Eli plays like he's not doing it, then he pulls off the wig and he looks bald like Danny DeVito. You're stealing my thunder.

SPEAKER_00:

So, do you want to do a quick standings recap or just skip it for now?

SPEAKER_02:

Uh, I wasn't prepared for that, but if you want to do it, I do.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm just we don't have to we can always push it to next week.

SPEAKER_02:

However, you want to do it, bro.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm good. All right, we'll we'll we'll push it to next week.

SPEAKER_02:

But um if you if you want to know, look it up Yahoo or ESPN app or NHL.

SPEAKER_00:

We'll give you our our thoughts next week. Or I'll I'll just say who's in a playoff spot or who's playing who in playoffs right now. We'll do that. So right now, Boston would be playing. Actually, hold on, let me let me look it up by conference. That'd be the division. No, it'd be wild card.

SPEAKER_02:

You have to get the wild card teams right, and who have uh who's winning uh the east.

SPEAKER_00:

Let's see, east, okay, so it would be Boston versus Carolina, Montreal versus Detroit, and then you have Pittsburgh and the Islanders, and then Tampa Bay and Buffalo. I'm sorry. I never would have guessed that Pittsburgh and Islanders would be in a playoff spot right now.

SPEAKER_02:

There's been a lot of surprises this year.

SPEAKER_00:

Yep, and then in the West, uh San Jose would be going against Colorado, Utah against Vegas, uh, then you got Minnesota versus Dallas, and right now Minnesota's the number two. Um and then Ducks versus Edmonton. And then uh on game 83, the Kings would be playing no one.

SPEAKER_02:

Wouldn't shock me in the least.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, I see you you wanna know who has the most overtimes in each division. Sure. They are you guys have uh or sorry overtime losses. Vegas has or no, you guys have 13, Vegas has 12, Seattle 9, Edmonton 8, Calgary 5, Vancouver 5, Ducks and San Jose 3 each. It's just cra crazy that you got Vegas and you guys have that many overtime points.

SPEAKER_02:

Well you what you you don't realize is if we played the most uh one goal games in hockey. I I want to know they were actually saying that today.

SPEAKER_00:

I I I gotta look it up to see who ha who would have the most points if we did a 3-2-1 system. Because this year it'd be way different.

SPEAKER_02:

We could we can do that next week when we do the standings. How's that sound? Okay, we can do that. Yeah. Something to look forward to for the fans.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. But um, we'll just remember everyone, go Rams this week or tomorrow. Um, and I just hope it's a good game in the other game. Um for my best friend's sake, I hope. Broncos. Um but on that, you have anything else to add before we get out of here?

SPEAKER_02:

Well, I usually say go kings go, but I'm gonna say go Rams. Whose house? Rams Rams House.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. Well, everyone, thank you for thank you for joining us on this late live stream uh with us on Saturday night. Um, we'll be back next week. Um we'll just say TBA on that one.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, uh we have just so before we go off, um my in-laws, Cody's grandparents, on the 21st of this month, then married 65 years. Oh, that's when the party is on the 21st, yes. Yeah, please let me finish and don't interrupt, would you?

SPEAKER_00:

No.

SPEAKER_02:

Anyways, 21st was their 65th anniversary, the 31st, which is Saturday. They're having a party, which I'm gonna be actually in Orange County if we do a podcast at all during the day. But I think we're probably gonna we're probably gonna do it Friday night again. Um sorry to another night one, another night one. I'm sorry, yeah, it's Saturday night, isn't it? Uh another night one that way we can relax, enjoy, and be with family. And and everyone, you know, um we all live busy lives, and life is crazy. And but you know what? You know, this is my philosophy, and I haven't always lived it, and I wish I would have. I think it would have been a much better husband and father and a friend, but you know, God is first, family is second, work and everything else comes after that. So make sure you tell everyone that you love that you love them, you know, and let them know it every day. It's it's really important, you know. It's one thing we got in the the conference today is about you know, how you have to be renewed, you know. You just can't keep going, going, going. You have to be renewed. Find things. This is one thing that renews me is this podcast. So I am actually doing what I'm I'm I bet I was preached to about today. This renews me, it makes me feel good about doing the podcast. Uh, we have made so many strides um in the in the podcast in the 98 episodes we've done. Um oh, actually, it's really been 99, right? Because we had that extra one we did.

SPEAKER_00:

If we're doing just off of that, then maybe 100.

SPEAKER_02:

I think we're up. We already hit 100.

SPEAKER_00:

Like 102? No. Well, so uh whatever.

SPEAKER_02:

Anyways, you know, don't let stress put pull you down, you know. Worrying about anything doesn't make it better. My dad always says you can't worry about what you can't control, and you can't control anything but how you react to it. And it's great advice, it's much harder to put into practice because I still fail at it. But I'm I just want you all to know, you know, we're here, hopefully we're entertaining you. Hopefully, this is something that you can do that helps you, you know, the rest of the world seem to go away just for a little bit, all those troubles and things that you're frustrated with. You know, let's keep ourselves healthy. Like we talked about Old Mark earlier to today in the podcast. Uh, you know, he's taken time to get rejuvenated and be there like he should for his family, his friends, and everything else. You do the same. We thank you guys for listening to the podcast. Sorry I preached. Um, it just fell on my heart to do it.

SPEAKER_00:

So how dare you? No, uh, everyone, thank you for tuning in. Thank you for our audio listeners. Um, just remember everyone to go follow us at Royally Quacked on all social media if you haven't done so yet. We want to see you guys in here commenting. I'll even see the comments even after even later. So comment on the videos. Um, but most importantly, subscribe. We'd really appreciate it, it really helps the channel out. Um, you know, share it with friends too. If you have Rams or Rams, yeah, even Rams fans, Ducks fans, Kings fans. We don't want the Niners, go away. No, I'm just kidding. If you're if you're a Ducks fan, Kings fan, or just hockey fan in general, this is the podcast for you. If you've drinking too much, please Uber or just don't drive in at all. Stay at a friend's house. I'm not a drinker, I'll have my one or two beers, and I'm like, okay, I'm done. So, but everyone, please be safe out there and let's go, ducks. Go Rams. All right, we'll see you guys next week, and we'll keep everyone updated on the we're gonna go live next week. We'll see you next week.
