Royally Quacked: An LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks Hockey Podcast

Episode 85- Scorey Perry is Back In Black! Is Ross the Boss!?

Cody Spink and Gary Spink Season 1 Episode 85

Send us a text

A week of chaos delivered the most fun kind of hockey: wild momentum swings, unlikely heroes, and a scoreboard that wouldn’t sit still. We open with real life—on-call shifts, long drives, and coffee-fueled nights—then jump straight into the ice where the Ducks and Kings each wrote their own kind of comeback story.

For Anaheim, the road trip turned into a showcase. Cutter Gauthier looks every bit the natural finisher, Leo Carlsson carries himself like a veteran play-driver, and Mason McTavish keeps sniping through impossible windows. Ross “the Boss” Johnston shocked the room with a Gordie Howe hat trick, while Michael Granlund erupted for his first five-point night as a Duck and Nikita Nesterenko piled up four assists in Boston. The power play still needs polish and the backup crease saw too many pucks, but the kids are pushing the pace and answering every mistake with punchback.

The Kings lived on the edge and made it work. Adrian Kempe buried an overtime winner in Dallas with a bold horns-down celebration, Corey Perry got greasy in the blue paint for his first as a King, and LaFerriere found twine at last. The penalty kill has to tighten, and giveaways are flirting with danger, yet the top six keeps creating, right-shot D keep jumping into lanes, and Darcy Kuemper’s steadying hand stole a result they needed.

We also put the spotlight on fan energy. Nashville’s chants reminded us what a loud barn can do. The Ducks’ Coach Bombay jacket as player-of-the-game keeps the vibe playful and specific. We pitch practical ways to make arenas more alive and three-on-three overtime less of a keep-away drill and more of a creativity stage. Add in league-wide beats—throwback sweaters, Marchand being Marchand, injury shuffles, and contract chatter—and you’ve got a full-ice view of a season heating up.

If you’re into honest recaps, sharp takes, and a few laughs between goals, press play now. Subscribe, share with a fellow fan, and drop your three stars of the week in the comments—we’ll read our favorites on the next livestream.

SPEAKER_05:

Welcome back, hockey fans, to Royally Quack, Episode 85. It's hard to believe it's been 85 episodes, huh, Cody?

SPEAKER_01:

It's it is hard to believe it's been eighty-five episodes.

SPEAKER_05:

Sometimes it seems like it's been 185, and other times it just seems like it went by so fast.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. Like sometimes it feels yeah, like you said, 185 or episode 10.

SPEAKER_02:

Like it it it's been fast. Um, but how how was your week this week?

SPEAKER_03:

Crazy.

SPEAKER_02:

I I know the feeling.

SPEAKER_01:

I was on call this week so for work, so I completely understand what you mean when you say crazy, because each of the times the ducks had a game, I got a call this week.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, it is annoying.

SPEAKER_05:

Oh yeah, I I would find that annoying. Yes, very much so. Yeah, I had a guy get sick, go by ambulance to the hospital, and I had to ride with it was an AM driver. Because I'm the PM supervisor, I was the only one that could go out and get the car. So I had to ride and do like like five dailies with one of my drivers. Then go to Hollywood, pick it up, and it took me just about two hours to get back to Liso Viejo. And it was like And then um yesterday I hadn't been there very long and uh our LAX mid-driver uh got hit by something flying across debris. Yeah, I hit his windshield. Um it was not safe to drive, so he pulled over. So then I I was there in about 50 minutes. It was uh over off of right near Hawthorne exit on the 405 north. And so I get there, give him a car, he takes off, and I they tell me no, it they told me it was gonna be from 241 to 311. So I'm it's like 130 when I'm there. I just had my book on tape on, I put my head back. That wasted an hour because I had a nap for an hour.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

But then again, it you know, three uh three forty-one came, four eleven came, and at four sixteen says, If we haven't seen or heard from a driver, call, so I called and it said the voicemail was full. Then I called again and it was busy, and I called and I talked to someone and shows, Yeah, your driver's uh just dropping someone off at LAX, he'll be there somewhere around four o'clock. So not a I I was there for two and a half hours, and then uh like I said, a two-hour drive back.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, my last weekend was pretty busy since I was on call. And of course, the guy that was on call before me, he had two weeks straight of being on call. And he only got one total call, didn't have to go out.

SPEAKER_02:

I go on call.

SPEAKER_01:

Luckily, nothing happened on Friday night, but then Saturday um I got two people that call that they were out of gas. So I had to go down there, put uh fill up their tanks, and then do, but and I gotta do more than that. I gotta like, you know, do a leak test to see it's like a procedure, like we have to see if there's a leak in their line and all this. I gotta relay their water heaters and everything. And then I had another customer call in the middle of when I was doing everything, but they weren't a customer, so I couldn't do anything about it. And then I was supposed to go to the mall because they had the Greek and wine festival there. And I guess they're our customer, and I was supposed to go filter cylinders, and I call and they're like, oh no, we're good for the weekend. Um, and I was and like, hey, like if we need you, we'll call you. I'm like, perfect, sounds good. So Sunday comes around, and normally, like, I what I'll try to do when I'm doing all the editing for like social media posts for the podcast and all the reels, I'll I'll try I try to knock it out like as soon as I wake up that way I can just enjoy the rest of the Sunday. Um some or sometimes I'm just lazy, or you know, I'll do it like sporadically through the day. But I had a gut feeling I was gonna get calls, so as soon as I woke up, I knocked it all out, and it's like about 10 minutes after I knocked it all out, I got back-to-back calls. And I had to go out and take care of uh a couple customers. Luckily, and then the Greek and wine festival people call me, they're like, hey, we do need the propane, we're almost out, and we still have a lot of people to feed. And I was like, Alright, I'm like, I got one customer ahead of you, and I'll be right there. They're like, okay, perfect. I get there and they're like, and I'm starving. I haven't I haven't really ate most of the day. I was smelling all this great, like, cooked meat, like food right there. They hooked that, I can tell you, they hooked it up. They gave me this coffee, tasted amazing, and then they gave me a euro, and I demolished it in like about three bites, and the thing was like like this. They packed it and everything, and they're like, You want another one? I was like, Yes. And I was like, don't I'm like, just don't tell my wife I'm eat I'm eating I'm eating this. She's like, oh well, you want some to go? And I was like, Yeah, I'll take two to go. So I got like four Euros for free and everything.

SPEAKER_02:

And I was f I was full after that.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, they were they were really nice there and everything, and then just being on call this week too, so yeah. I I it was nice getting a little bit overtime this last week, but enough about what what's overtime?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, well, your salary, at least you know what you're making. Um, you you want to get into news now?

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, why don't you go ahead and start?

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. You're on the top, so um I mean, I just that's just how I've had it. I don't if you ever want to go first, I don't care. It's alright.

SPEAKER_04:

You have a little bit more news, and it gives me a chance to put my games on my street uh extra screen.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay. So I'm I'm gonna skip the first one, just I'm gonna come back to that. Lexus Downey posted that Ian Moore returned back to Harvard over the summer and finished his degree, earning it in economics. He's a smart kid, and uh, you'll be hearing a little bit more of him lately. Uh or, you know, in this episode. So I forgot to mention this last week, but when the Ducks win, um, they have a player of the game item pretty much. Like I think last year was the fireman helmet because of the LA fires that happened last year. Yeah. This year, they're doing the coat uh Coach Gordon Bombay's Mighty Ducks jacket that he wore in the first Mighty Ducks movie. So that is the player of the game item. I do not want to be I do not want to smell that jacket at the end of the season.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

But I what a great um tribute and everything with everything with that. Um next bit of news. Um the ducks scored seven goals in a game for the second time in the 2025-2026 season. You know, a little spoiler alert. Um and the last time Anaheim had multiple seven goal games in a season was in 21, uh 2021 and 2022.

SPEAKER_05:

Oh, what one other thing to go with that? I didn't spoil anything. On the Bru on the what in the Bruins game?

SPEAKER_02:

I'm talking about to them.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, yeah, but I mean they don't know the scores. I mean, I by the time they're listening to this, the game's already over, okay. But alright. Next bit of news. In the week after the fantastic opening uh Wild Wing Mask Knight giveaway, which you know, you know, this one, um, the Anaheim put it out there that they can buy it on the team store. The ducks sold 4,700 of them. And this is a core uh this is from Elliot Freeman. The orders came from all 50 states in the USA and 12 countries, including Brazil, China, France, Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand, and Spain. And then he also added, imagine enjoying the scenery in a Vietnam of Vietnam Oh, Venetian, sorry.

SPEAKER_05:

Venetian gondola.

SPEAKER_01:

So we're recording this, we're recording this at almost 8.30 on Saturday night. I'm tired. It's been a long day. A Venetian gondola, and someone passes by in a Wild Wing duck mask. Sorry. It's 8 30 at night. A little tired and everything. Um I mean, I'm still I'm drinking coffee right now, for God's sakes. I can't do that or I won't go to sleep. I'm I'm pretty tired, so it'll be fine. And then I know some spoiler news for the next couple. Um, but Ian Moore will draw in for Radico Gudis because Gudis got an injury in the Nashville game. It's considered lower body and he's considered day-to-day. Uh, Chris Kreider hasn't played the last three games um due to illness. He remains out. And then um, this is a definitely big spoiler, but oh well. Um by the time we're all listening to this, uh, the news will already be out. But Mikhail Granlon um suffered a lower body injury during the Tampa Bay Lightning game. We're not doing a recap recap this week. We're gonna save it for next week because we already had that planned. And then last bit of news, not really news, but something I wanted to add. Um, but I feel like in and I think it's like the key at the Kings 2. Which I think arenas need more crowd involvement in games. So, what I mean by that, like, okay, Dad, when we went to the Galaxy game, and yeah, see you already know what I'm saying, right? Yeah. So, and I and I love that. And the Ducks used to do this. Where um before uh Tim Kepp uh Kepler, the national anthem singer for the Anaheim Ducks, before him, I can't remember her last name, but her first name was Dawn. And during the National Anthem, when they says the word Dawn, everyone in the arena yelled, Dawn. And it was a I love and I love that because you know, so the crowd got involved and everything. And what I noticed when I was listening or watching the Nashville game, that the crowd gets into it with the the PA announcer. Like, and it it reminded me of the LA Galaxy games.

SPEAKER_04:

I know where you're going with this, and I love it.

SPEAKER_01:

And it reminded me of the L Galaxy games. Uh so I don't know if you people know this. Like, I'm gonna just say the name because it's one that when we used to go to the games, it was said a lot. Like, so say uh Yassi Giassy Zardes scored. I think that was Zard. Was it Giasi Zard?

SPEAKER_06:

Zardis, I can't remember his first name.

SPEAKER_01:

So yeah, or uh how about this? We'll just do Landon Donovan, you know, Galaxy Great. So whenever he would score, the P announcer would go, and score by number 10, Landon, and everyone in the crowd will go, Donovan, and then number 10, Landon, and then everyone in the crowd will go, Donovan, and then the announcer would be like thank you, and everyone in the crowd will be like, You're welcome. Like I love that. I love it.

SPEAKER_06:

Could you imagine?

SPEAKER_04:

Okay, since it's Anze Kopotar's last season, he scores a goal, and then goal scored by Anze, and everybody goes, Kopotar!

SPEAKER_05:

Yes, Anza like, Kopotar! Thank you, you're welcome. That shows every player on the ice that the everybody's into the game.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, I I I want and I know and the Nashville people like and I know like when Nashville scores, they sing this chant like you suck, you suck. You know, you know, I've heard it before because I think the San Diego goals, they do it too. Um, but like I want that. I I and I loved it when we were at the Galaxy Games watching that. And I I and I I know after watching the Nashville game, I was like, wow, I think hockey needs this more everywhere. I'm not just talking about for the Ducks or just the Kings. Seattle, when I was there, they didn't they had a little bit of involvement, but not like that like that. But Nashville, applause. Like I I will give you credit. I love it.

SPEAKER_02:

And I I think all of hockey needs more of that.

SPEAKER_05:

Hockey needs excitement and I think I've said it in years past, and not too I mean, we're just in between Kings and Ducks news right now, anyways. So yeah, but you know, on the sh on a shootout, no holds bar, they can do whatever they want. They got one attempt, they could do whatever they want. Yeah, have you watched any of the reels for hockey players, and a lot of it comes from Europe because they're allowed to do it. I mean, you got a guy doing a pirouette with a puck on his stick, comes back, boom, boom, the goalie has no idea what happened, and it's an easy goal and everybody's y screaming and yelling. You want to make the game exciting again? Let the excitement happen. Let it happen. Um I really think that you know the shootout would be almost I they're probably thinking about not doing it anymore. I mean, they're even talking about maybe ties again. I go, because what do we what what happens? Get the puck, hold on to the puck, skate in, skate out, you know, keep changing guys out till you get that one little break and then somebody goes score, but everybody's falling asleep during the five minutes that it happens. Now I know why they do it because they're not giving the other team a chance to score. But if you can do whatever you want, and if and like I think we've talked about this in offseason episodes, um like a shot clock. You know, you can't just hold on to the pure. You get the pure, a clock starts just like a basketball, you know, they have a 24-second shot, you know. I understand.

SPEAKER_01:

It would be hard for them to do that. I I I knew I I get what you're saying, and I totally agree, but it would be hard to make that kind of play in game because I I feel like possession changes a lot quicker than like basketball does sometimes, yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

You know, but not really, because it doesn't change a whole lot in overtime anymore. You might get one or two rushes per team in five minutes. Now, how many rushes do you get in a uh with five on five like that? You'll probably get at least three or four each team in five minutes at least.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay, but you're you're going into stuff in game. I'm talking about crowd.

SPEAKER_05:

Well, that would get the crowd into the game.

SPEAKER_01:

True.

SPEAKER_05:

Let's get the crowd back in the game. Okay, no, I agree. We anything else you want to say about that? We can get off that now.

SPEAKER_01:

No, I uh I I'm good. I it's just I I I love that because it reminded me of when we went to the Galaxy games.

SPEAKER_03:

So I love uh I love that so um on to King's news Corey Perry is back in action. So fans, what are your thoughts on Perry?

SPEAKER_05:

I was listening to King's Talk after um the Dallas game. It's a new guy. He's telling everybody, you know, tell me you love Corey Perry. People would call up. One girl said, you know, I can't stand Corey Perry. And I mean, and he accepted that, but he was trying to tell everybody, you gotta love Corey Perry, you know, and people had different takes, and he was telling them, you know, you're you're co-hosting this with me. And somebody wins when he does it. So I gotta say that's a new new twist on the uh post-game show or post-game talk with the Kinks. I'm kind of used to the way it was, but I I gotta say I love the enthusiasm this guy had. He's gonna take me some time to get used to him. But you know I I I miss Jesse Cohen still. I just Jesse had this way about him. So but you know, he's bounced back, he's got still all the king's men, he's got uh Royal Half, I think he's doing now. So um he was just on locked on Kings too. If if you guys want to hear about what happened with Jesse Cohen. Because you know, he was basically the guy doing a lot of the media stuff for the Kings. So anyways, let us know what your thoughts are. And I I'm uh you hate him if you play against him. You love him if he's on your team. And I gotta tell you, he's played like three games, and I can see why the teams would love him. I mean, he just does a lot of that dirty little stuff, and he at 40 years old, he's still competitive. So I'm not saying I love him, but I don't hate him being a king because I I think he scored a goal, maybe had a couple assists already. We'll have to see. I can't I I don't know what happened uh if he had anything today. As we're doing this a little late. Um and when we go to our predictions, those were done before any of the games today.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. And sorry, we'll both vouch for that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

Yeah. Uh you know, Cody had a thing to do, so uh we didn't live stream today. We'll be back live streaming next week. Uh and we're sorry for any of you that uh missed the live stream. That's gonna happen a few times a year. So uh the other great news, uh Copatar's back versus Nashville tonight tonight. So um and then other news, uh Burroughs is expected back in early November. He's been out I mean, even part of the preseason. Here here's my question in King's News. What happened to our penalty kill? I go, I I think we might be the worst team in the penalty kill after being best or second best last year. We gotta pick it back up. So now for my King's News, I'm gonna give you my pluses, my minuses, and my equals. Minus pluses are they're playing well. Minuses, they're not playing well. Equals, they're okay. So pluses, obviously Adrian Kempe over point of game. Um Quentin Byfield, a point of game. Fiala leads the team in goals. I think well, I think before when I wrote this he did. It might be Kempe now. Uh Clark has played well, Dowdy's played well, Kuzmenko's played well. These are my minuses. Fogle, Deneau, Moore, La Ferriere, Goalies, Naaminium, Dumulin, Sisi, and Helanius. So those guys gotta pick up their game if we're gonna be a playoff team. If not, we are not. Equals Anderson, Turkot, Armia, Kopotar just because he's only played in half the games. He is a point a guy for four games. Uh, but he hasn't played, so that hurts us, so he's an equal. And Malai. So those are my pluses, my minuses, and my equals for this week. We can now move on to league news. Do you want to start it, Cody? You want me to?

SPEAKER_01:

I'll start it. So um on Thursday this week, they had a flashback game, pretty much. Or uh this throwback Thursday kind of thing, where they had the Colorado Avalanche versus the Carolina Panthers, uh, not Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, but the Colorado wore their Quebec Nordiques new uniforms, and the Carolina Hurricanes wore their Hartford Whalers uniforms. So we had the Nordiques versus the Whalers kind of game.

SPEAKER_05:

That's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I I I I love that throwback. I I I I do love the throwback. The heart honestly, like those heart is the Hartford Whaler like logo one of the best logos in history? It's right up there. That's just I would say it's up there. Yeah, the the Hartford. I love the logo and and the colors I love and everything too. It's like I even though it's like the complete opposite of the hurricanes, but it's such a great look. And I know everyone was saying with this game, like, like, hey, should since was it on Nordiques, they have a the number eight is retired for one player. I can't remember the player at the top of my head, and that's Kale McCarr's number, and number 19 is retired for the Whalers, and Keandre Miller wears that number for Carolina. Should they for each of those players not wear those numbers for that game? It it was a big thing.

SPEAKER_05:

Did they?

SPEAKER_01:

They wore their numbers, I believe.

SPEAKER_06:

Well, I you know, why would they change?

SPEAKER_01:

No, I uh I I get what people were saying, but it's not like it was Wayne Gretzky's number or somebody like that. Yeah, no, a group.

SPEAKER_05:

I mean, it was a maybe a really good player, but they're not those teams anymore. They're they move on to a different city, and you I don't know, are are the mammoth gonna do that with all the coyote stuff? No, well that's different all that.

SPEAKER_01:

That's it's come that one's completely different because it's a whole new team.

SPEAKER_05:

In a way.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, in a way, yes.

SPEAKER_05:

So it's it still brought all the old coyote players that were still under contract, came with them. So all right, is that it on that one?

SPEAKER_02:

That is it for that one.

SPEAKER_06:

Okay, Brad Marchant has been fined five thousand dollars, the maximum allowable under the CBA for unswordsman like conduct.

SPEAKER_03:

Really? The rat during Saturday's game against the sabres. So did you see what he did?

SPEAKER_01:

I did not pretty much uh Brad uh Rasmus Dolen, I don't know why I was thinking a completely different name, uh kind of cross-checked Marshan from behind. And Marshan kinda did not like that, and when Dolene kind of came near him, kind of tripped him, and then just started fighting him, like punching him on the ground and everything. And when Marchand went to the penalty box, he took Dolen's helmet with him, and in the penalty box ripped out the the chin strap on Dolen's helmet.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. It was pretty funny.

SPEAKER_01:

I I mean, not for I don't think Dolene thought it was funny.

SPEAKER_04:

That was cor Corey Perry-esque.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, very Cori Perry esque and everything. Um and so he and then I apparently Rosmus Doline had to wear another guy's helmet just to even keep playing.

SPEAKER_06:

So, yeah, that's pretty much why I'm surprised he didn't get suspended some games.

SPEAKER_01:

So there was a reason why we think he didn't get suspended. Because if you look at the net the next note, you'll see why. Because it's the very next game. It was in Boston. It was in Boston.

SPEAKER_06:

His first time back playing it uh in Boston since being traded.

SPEAKER_01:

Exactly. So Marchand is back in Boston, first time playing in Boston since being traded, and it was actually the same day he debuted, made his NHL debut for the Boston Bruins only 16 years later. So October 21st, he made his uh was it what year was it? I have it right here. Uh let's see, uh, of two uh he made his NHL debut on October 29 or 21st, 2009. And then on October 21st, 2025, he played his first game back in Boston.

SPEAKER_07:

Wow, couple of firsts.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I that's crazy. And then um uh I don't know if you know this one, so I'm gonna steal the next one too.

SPEAKER_06:

I figured you were. So he he he steals from me all the time.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, you don't know what it is, do you? No, I don't. So last week in the was it Florida? Oh, I forgot who it was Florida and someone. I I forgot who the team was. It doesn't really matter. Um Florida used a challenge on the goal. And they wanted it, they wanted it a goal, but so the referee comes out after the challenge and he goes, Alright, after replay, we have a goal. Oh, and then he goes, Oh, wait, wait, no, no, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Due to replay, the player, I think it was considered offside, no goal. He all said it like literally, he said it was a good uh a goal, and then he's like, Oh, wait, no, that's not right. And he changed it like it was I get it.

SPEAKER_06:

You know, I think I did see this now that you mentioned it.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, like I said, I thought I thought it was funny more than anything. In Paul Maurice, they panned him. Like you could tell like he wanted to be mad, but he kind of thought it was probably funny what happened. So, and then Florida ended up losing the challenge and then got a uh a delay of game penalty, yeah. So I thought it was funny. I thought it'd be funny to talk about too. Like I I feel for the referee. You know, it's not something you want like a national televis, uh on a national televised game, and he just completely messes up the call. But hey, he fixed it, he got it right. That's the main thing is you get the call right.

SPEAKER_02:

Alright, I'll you you can you can take the next one because it's pretty self-explanatory. Alright, never mind, I'll take it.

SPEAKER_05:

Ottawa's put out an eight-year contract extension on the table for restricted free agent Shane Pinto. Nothing totally imminent, but that's what's on the table for who else but Elliot Friedman?

SPEAKER_02:

Yep. Yeah, I I mean I think he deserves an eight-year contract. He's playing out of his mind right now.

SPEAKER_05:

I I picked him up.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, smart. Smart. Alright, and then uh next bit of news is the Predators send Brady Martin back to the OHL for the rest of the season.

SPEAKER_02:

And then this next one I have. have it right here somewhere. Alright. This is as of Thursday.

SPEAKER_01:

I I think this is before the like the Ducks versus Nashville and the Kings versus whoever they played on Thursday. I forgot. Dallas. Dallas. Oh most post and crossbar hits this season so far. Do you want to take a guess on who's in the the top 10?

SPEAKER_03:

Or top five? I would I would be guessing it's probably an Anaheim duck.

SPEAKER_01:

No no this is just as a team. Together all as a team.

SPEAKER_06:

Okay the Anaheim ducks.

SPEAKER_01:

They're number two with 14 crossbars in the world.

SPEAKER_05:

You wouldn't put it in there if it didn't have ducks in it so that or Kings you don't know that they hit hit a few today.

SPEAKER_01:

The ducks have been hitting a lot of crossbars and posts I've noticed that too. But yes I probably wouldn't have put that the notes but um so I'll just tell you Buffalo is number one at 15 Anaheim has 14 Minnesota has 14 Calgary has 12 Pittsburgh has 12 Washington is 12 and all these teams have 11 Carolina Florida Montreal Tampa Bay and Vancouver so that's all from Thursday like based off of Thursday. It's probably changed by now but I don't have those exact uh stats right now so you know that's not even a shot on goal right it's not a shot on goal I already knew I knew that as a goalkeeper in soccer I knew that yeah I mean we shoot them on they just don't go in yeah it's only considered a a say a shot on goal is if it goes in or the goalie makes a save I knew that so Utah's Alex Kerfot Kerflet is out eight to it's been one of those days it's been out eight to ten weeks after surgery on a core muscle injury yep and then the Golden Knights are expected to convert Carter Hart's PTO with the club to a two year two million dollar AAV contract per Darren Drager. He's eligible to play as soon as December 1st and the Canadians for Patrick Laney will miss three to four months after undergoing on a core muscle injury also. And they've been playing pretty well without him yeah I I I think Liney is only those like specialty players like someone you want on the power play and that's it. He's a goal scorer that's for sure he is a goal scorer he is and the last bit of league news is the Nash uh Nashville's captain Roman Yossi is out week to week with an upper body injury out again yeah he's he's had some injuries issues that's liney too he's been injury prone a lot very very true yeah all right you want to you want do you want to start with the game recaps or you want me to start?

SPEAKER_05:

I'll start I think I had the first game right Saturday you did have the first game yep game take your time I was moving it up instead of over so the the Kings played the the canes didn't start out pretty either I see that so let me start with the scoring first period um it was the Jordan Stall show he got his second from Carrier and Martinook at the 12 second mark to make it one to nothing how lovely was that and then um and then he got his third at the 358 mark so within four minutes the Kings were down two nothing. Uh from Riley his second and Chatfield his second on a slap shot. So after one period two nothing Kings second period holy bully canemi scored his first from uh Miller for his first 343 into the second period three to nothing so not look it was like a kind of bleak bleak for the Kings at that time and then uh Trevor Moore got his second uh from Dano and Edmondson a minute later to make it three to one then on the power play Andre Kuzmenko gets his second from Byfield his fourth and Kempe his fourth at the 1604 mark and it's 3-2 then we go to the third period and at the 1102 mark Kevin Fiala get his gets his fourth from Adrian Kempe his fifth and we go to overtime didn't last too long in overtime but a minute 45 seconds in Seth Jarvis gets his sixth from Ajo his sixth and Miller his second on a wrist shot and Carolina beats the Kings 4-3 in overtime but being down three to nothing coming back shows shows some some grit Carolina really just kind of dominated this game in most every category 40 shots to 28 62% to 38% in the faceoff circle. Now the Kings were one for one on the power play and they were oh for three yay penalty kill finally worked um hits the kings out hit him 29 to 18 block shots were even at 2020 giveaway six kings 21 gains 16 takeaways 6 gains 7 kings 4 and then let's go to the three stars uh Adrian Kempe with two assists was the third star Jordan Stahl uh with two goals is the second star and Seth Jarvis scoring one goal is the first star. Just because I guess he got the game winner I would have given it to Stahl. I mean he did I thought he did more and that that's that game uh do you want me to just keep going or you want to do your next your first game?

SPEAKER_01:

I'll do my next one.

SPEAKER_05:

I'll do my first one we're gonna do them in date order then?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah we can do that. I mean no I mean now our dates match up now after this one.

SPEAKER_05:

Right.

SPEAKER_01:

So but we'll just go back and forth. Okay we'll do it that way just go back and forth that's fine um so the Ducks head over to Chicago and I believe this is the first game of the five game road trip um did not start off very good I mean no score for the first two periods so pretty pretty normal I guess in these kind of games and then Frank Nazar god that c that contract he signed is gonna look like a bargain by the time that's over. He scores his third goal a year to take it 1-0 Chicago and that's at the 943 mark in the third period and then Mason McTavish scores his first of the year oh and by the way you ruined this game for me a little bit because remember you said what a shot by McTavish and I was watching this game I'm watching this game I'm like okay why would my dad text me that if you know McTavish had a nice shot and it didn't go in so I'm just like waiting I'm like okay McTavish is gonna score obviously but God okay you had to wait the game I had to wait almost the whole game that was my whole idea it wasn't the whole game because I was able to watch the first period and then I had to go out on call and then come back luckily the call the call wasn't very far from me thank god um but you texted me that I'm like why why would you do that to me I will say you've been on call way too much I'm on call about every five weeks seems like you're on every week to me God I don't want to be but at least the overtime's nice so but okay but what a shop on McTavish like that was no it you were right just you didn't have to say it before I watched it and I don't know how he made that but he did like he literally like I think that was the only chance of that puck going in was that shot. I don't if he was off by like a centimeter that's not it's not going in so the duck uh the ducks tie it at the 1924 mark uh on a power play goal by makes mtavish and then we go into overtime and overtime did not look pretty um leo and McTavish uh are at like the end of their shift and just did not get back in time Chicago had like a three on one then it was a big scramble and then uh Bedar got it to Donato Donato put it in for the overtime winner ducks lose in overtime we do get the point but we lose in overtime I just don't like losing to Chicago on the shots on goal 39 to 30 in favor of Anaheim face-off percentage we're not winning faceoffs it was uh 56 to 44 power play one for five we gotta get more than that even though I believe this was our first first game without Kriner so the the power play's been a little off since without him but we gotta figure it out without him in the lineup as well 30 hits to 28 in favor of Anaheim block shots uh 12 to 9 in favor of blackhawks giveaways was even takeaways we uh Anaheim at 8 uh this was the first game against the Chicago Blackhawks out of three so now Chicago has a one game lead on us on that three stars of the game was Frank Nazar with uh the one goal Donato was the third star with one goal one assist and Spencer Knight was I mean I would say he's easily the first star he was the only reason why Chicago was even in this game um yeah Spencer Knight was the number one star only gave up the one that one goal which I mean like I said it had to take a perfect goal to beat him on that one and that's what happened. I mean the Ducks had 16 shots in the first period 17 shots in the second and 13 in the third and three in overtime uh yeah he the ducks got goalie'd in this game so it happens yep so on to your next game so the Kings are in St.

SPEAKER_05:

Louis on Tuesday the 21st and Cisco to the score for a first time in a long time the Kings take a 1-0 lead and Alex Laferrier finally gets his first goal from Major in Kempe early at the 147 mark to put the Kings up one to nothing then it's kind of quiet second period that's it in the first period there was nothing in the second period but with the 218 mark on the power play Justin Fall got his first from Thomas his second and Kairu his third to tie the game and then the game goes to overtime and on the power play Adrian Kenbe gets his third assists Kuzmenko his third Fiala his second at 150 of the overtime period for the Kings to win two to one a little bit about the stats Kings outshot him 2818 on the faceoffs Kings got lost this again they used they used to be better. Of course they don't have Kopotar who's probably top five in the NHL and faceoffs uh 53 to 47%. Each of them were one for three on the power play um hits St. Louis 20 Kings 11 blocks nine for uh the blues 14 for the Kings here's the the Kings keep leading the giveaways 19 to 12 and but they did out take uh take away them 7 to 3 let's go to the three stars of this game um Jordan Bennington who made um I think 37 saves so his goals against average is 1.94 and his save percentage was 9.29 um Kemper was a second star he was he had a 940 uh four save percentage and uh goals against of uh 0.97 and obviously the number one star Adrian Kempe give him a contract please one goal and one assist if he wants 12 million give it to him let's go all right on to your next game Cody next game let's see where'd it go give me a second while I pull it up all right next game right here so the ducks head over to Nashville for game two of the road trip and so in this game you didn't spoil it for me but you did say something that but like I said you did not spoil this one all you were gonna say is you're gonna laugh so I didn't give anything away no no I I didn't say you did I said you didn't give anything away you didn't spoil anything but you just text me this this game's gonna make you laugh so what this is game what number let me go to my notes game number six and it took us six games to finally score the first goal of the game and uh if you would have given me a million chances to guess I still would have never guessed who scored the first first goal of the game for the ducks this season and that was Ross Johnston.

SPEAKER_01:

So Ross Johnston scores the first goal of the game assist from Gudis and Minty at the 852 mark and then Tyson Jose ties it up for Nashville so we're tied 1-1 after one and then Leo Carlson gets his third goal of the year assist from Truba and Cutter to take the lead in the second period but then Philip Forrestberg gets his second of the year to tie it up at two and then Cuttergote gets his fourth of the year on a snapshot at the 1507 mark assist from Truba and so now it's 3-2 Anaheim and then we and then Beckett Seneca also gets his third of the year assists from McTavis and Johnston yep so right now with this Beckett Seneca goal Ross Johnston gets a goal and an assist not bad for a human trap a human traffic dog yeah so as soon as that assist happened I'm like uh oh I think I know what my dad's talking about so now it's the Anaheim's leading 4-2 um after two and then Troy Terry scores his first goal of the game fine uh year of the finally uh paling gets his first uh point as an Anaheim duck and then Ross Johnson gets his second assist of the game and not only does Johnston get a three-point night nope he topped it off by getting the Gordy Howe hat trick by getting in a fight so he had a goal an assist and a fight to complete the Gordy Howe hat trick and never would have thought that Ross the boss Johnston was gonna be Ross the boss that's his nickname apparently human traffic cone no hey it's fine I he proved I I think it was maybe a great cronin thing with Ross the boss but I mean he is playing better. I mean that's what I don't think I've called him the human traffic cone this season yet. Yes you have have I have oh I didn't think I have I thought I was waiting at least all right someone quote me on that if I if I've called him the human traffic cone this season so far I've I didn't if anything it was maybe once but anything anyways so the ducks win this game five to two um we outshoot the predators 32 to 28 hey we finally won the faceoff percentage 55 to 45 0 for 5 on the power play but like I said we gotta fix the power play it's looking good we gotta finish on the power play ducks led the uh game in hits with 23 to 16 Nashville led in block shots uh 11 to 9 giveaways uh 13 for Anaheim 16 for Nashville and seven takeaways for Anaheim to Nashville's five so the ducks take uh the first game of the season series over Nashville 5 to 2 and here are your three stars of the game Tyson Jost uh with one goal he's the number 3 star and then Cutter Godier is the number two star with one goal one assist for two points and who's the number one star you might ask the human traffic code Ross the boss Johnston with a goal two assists for three points and the Gordy Howe hat trick that I believe that was his second career multipoint game and you want to know who the other time he had his multipoint game was against the Anhib Ducks when he was part of uh the Islanders there were fans waiting outside of uh Honda Center for him I just sent you a picture well you saw what I sent you right yes I did like when as soon as I realized it I was like okay that's funny like I said you didn't spoil it I will say you did you finally didn't spoil the game but and then as soon as he got that assist I'm like oh crap I know what he's saying and yep he completed it with three points and the Gordy how hat trick so you know Ross Ross good job you know you you get I'll give you some leeway now you know you're you're not the human traffic cone right now but you're Ross the boss Johnson right now.

SPEAKER_02:

So that completes our second game of the week.

SPEAKER_05:

So we'll go on to our third game of the week and Thursday we are in Dallas playing the stars and we got off to a decent start even in this game even though I think we were we were kind of outplayed but scoring his first goal as a king at the 1848 mark on the power play from uh Fiala his third and byfield his fifth is Corey the scorey Perry I don't know if I can get used to that so uh Kings lead after one one to nothing and then in the second period a lot of trade talk about this gentleman but he's on the power play too Jason Robertson gets his third from hints his sixth and Johnston his third at the 458 mark and it's one to one um in the second period then another newbie to the Kings got his first probably the most controversial pickup of the Kings Cody CC got his first from Kempe his seventh and LaFerriere his first make a 2-1 Kings at the 627 mark on a slap shot but again the penalty kill fails in the third period and Wyatt Johnson gets his fifth from Hence his seventh and ratten in his fifth at the 232 mark on a snapshot and we go to overtime in overtime man this says 37 seconds it seemed like three days but Kempe got his fourth from byfield to sixth to win the game at the 37 second mark do you see did you see the celebration he did? Yes horns down yeah you know what that means right uh I don't know what horns down I know they do the horns up in Texas though for like the University of Texas. Yes that's why it's horns down that's why he did that he's like not horns up it's horns down so this is not bad for someone that's from Sweden that knows that yeah well he's been in America for a while yeah true so get this the guy who has a multi point game is the third star and the game winner Jason Robertson is second star now I gotta say I still would give Darcy Kemper the first star. He finally played a really good game um they were outplayed and he was the difference maker in this game just like last year but is that gonna continue?

SPEAKER_01:

We'll see um so Kemper was the first star let's go to the stats and see how bad bad it really looked in the stats Kings were outshot at 3125 but in the face-off circle without Kobitar 60 to 40 60% to 40 LaFerriere uh won eight out of nine byfield looked good Nano looked good we were 33% on the power play one for three but on the penalty kill we were two for five we gave up two for five that's forty percent that's terrible so the hits were 1814 uh stars block 16 14 kings giveaways of we won that one again too 20 to 15 we don't want to win that one people if you didn't know takeaways were five apiece so two games in a row could it be a winning streak will it continue that will be continued to next week's episode on to your last game Cody all right this last game was let's just say it's it was a game um it was the game of the backup goalies in this one so that should tell you there's a hint right there so the ducks win this one 7-5 in Boston all right so in the first period C C Middlestad gets his third of the year to open the game of scoring and of course the ducks continue to give up the first goal of the game again um and then Drew Hellison ties it up uh to make it one for his second goal of the year Nestoranko gets his first point of the year and Granlin gets his first assist of the game and fourth overall in the season so hint there. So now we're tied one apiece after one second period Morgan Geeky gets his fourth of the year to make it two on Boston and then Cutter Gautier fifth of the year and then assist from Lacombe his second and Carlson his fifth. So what we're in what game number seven right now yeah game number seven cutter already has five goals if you guys remember right cutter didn't score his first goal till like what the 16th game of the year yeah but what did I tell you just wait no I told you he's gonna go off you you were talking about uh McTavish and I go guy the guy that's gonna take off is is Godier he's a goal scorer he just has a nose for it you can see it when he plays oh yeah oh you could tell right away and he's not just a shot he he's a playmaker too yeah but I mean he's gonna score goals because he's just got a nose for it and I told you I told you look out he's gonna be he's gonna be like byfield yeah key for you guys to succeed yeah he's the key guy yeah so then Jacob Truber gets his first of the year Nestor gets his uh second assist of the game yeah second assist of the game and then Granland gets another assist his fifth second of the game fifth of the year so now it's three two Anaheim and then Mason Low Right on the power play ties it up three apiece so now we're it's tied three three after two periods and then Michael Granlin finally gets his first goal as an Anaheim duck on the power play assist from Terry and Vitrano so now the ducks lead four to three and then Sam Kalangelo gets his first of the year uh from Paling and Truba so now it's 5-3 Anaheim and then David Pasternak gets his fifth goal of the year on the power play so now it's 5-4 Anaheim then Geeky Morgan Geeky gets his fifth of the year so now we're tied 5-5 and that's at the 1457 mark but then never fear Troy Terry gets a second of the year Nikita Nesterko gets his third assist of the game and Granlin his third assist of the game um so a 6-5 Anaheim and then Michael Granlin on the empty net scores his second of the game second of the year his fifth point of the game but get this Nikita Nessukro gets his fourth assist of the game so the ducks had a guy with five points and four points in this game and I believe that was the I want to say the first time in I don't know how long we had a oh since I think 2015 that the ducks had a guy with a five point night and that was Michael Granland's first career five point game so shots on goal the ducks got completely outshot this game 42 to 30 lost in the faceoffs 58 to 42 power play um the ducks were one for three not bad but the penalty kill was absolutely horrendous in this game I I gotta look up I want to say Boston in their two power plays so that's a in two power plays that's a total of four minutes. I don't think they had more than 20 seconds on the power play in this game.

SPEAKER_02:

Boston scored I want to say on the first shot each time yeah it was bad.

SPEAKER_01:

Let's see the hits uh we got out hit only by one 18 to 17 block shots we had 22 to 15 giveaways we let in that 20 to 18 takeaways we only had one takeaway to Boston's four um Peter Mrazic uh I'm gonna talk about you for a second hey I know everyone has bad games but you know it's okay to stop the puck it's okay you can do that that's your job in two games you're two oh one oh but yet

SPEAKER_02:

You've given up 11 goals in two games.

SPEAKER_01:

And I believe he's at like a 878 save percentage, which is not good at all. I'll have to double check that actually. Um but it's just not very good. I'll see if I can pull it up.

SPEAKER_02:

Let's see if I can pull up for the ducks. Oh, he is at an eight, oh, an 831 save percentage right now. Yikes.

SPEAKER_01:

Um so let's go to the three stars of the game. Okay. Like I said, I never understand the three stars of the game. I'm gonna I'm gonna change it. You know, I'm gonna take one player out and add one player in. I'll keep the Poster knock one in. He's the third star of the game. He had a goal and assist. We'll keep him. Second star of the game, they put Troy Terry for the one goal, one assist for two points. Yeah. I'm gonna put Nikita Nestorenko as a number two star. Four assists in the game, you deserve to be a star.

SPEAKER_04:

Really?

SPEAKER_01:

So, yeah. So Troy Terry, nothing against you. You you're playing great right now. Thank God you're finally playing you're you're you're getting used to the system. You're playing great, but I'm gonna slide Nikita Nestoranko into the number two star, and the number one star as obvious is Mikhail Granlin. Two goals, three assists for five points.

SPEAKER_02:

So good night. Um so I know we haven't done this yet, but who's your player of the week? Of this week? Of this last week. Okay, that's an obvious one, I guess.

SPEAKER_01:

For me, oh god, that's hard. Like, I've liked the way certain players have played. Granlon's been picking up Troy Terry's looking a lot better now. I mean, even Trubas looked good. Um McTabach has looked good. Seneca's looked a little off lately, you know, but he's a rookie. That's fine. I understand that. I'm about to go with either Granlin or um the other one that scored quite a bit. I mean, cut coming cutters looked great too. Carlson is just he's a game changer, man. Like, he looks so good. Like, I'm not a stat person, I don't know like the whole goals for percentage, you know, goals um like all that core C I don't understand any of that. I'm an eye test kind of person. I like watching the game, seeing how they play, but man, Cutter and Leo are just they're they're they're dominating the games when they're in. Like you can tell what when they're on the ice. I'm I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Granley because he had the five point night. So that's gonna be my ducks player of the week. So um, but before we get out of here, and we uh I do wanna or let's do the predictions first. Yeah, I forgot about that. Let's do predictions.

SPEAKER_05:

You have three games, I have four. Let me just do mine real quick.

SPEAKER_01:

Yep, you knock yours out. And we like I said, you and I will both vouch for each other that we had these picks in before tonight's game, even though we're both wrong. So it's not like you're blowing it now. Well uh everyone is gonna know.

SPEAKER_06:

Okay.

SPEAKER_05:

Uh Kings reads, I have the Kings winning five three. Then tomorrow they're playing the uh Blackhawks, I have the Kings win in five two. Then the Sharks uh win seven four and then against the Red Wings 4-3.

SPEAKER_01:

7-4. Going for the touchdown, huh?

SPEAKER_05:

Well, we're not playing very good defense, so I gotta give them some goals because those they they they got a talented offensive team.

SPEAKER_01:

True. Um the Ducks played, you know, early uh on earlier today. I don't know why I have Sunday on there on my thing, but it's Saturday. Um I have the Ducks winning 3-2. I'm obviously wrong on that one. Uh and then Tuesday, the Ducks will play their fifth game of the road trip. They finish up in Florida against the two-time defending champions. I have that one, I have them losing that one four to three, and then the Ducks uh come back home on Friday on on Halloween, and Gibson's first game back after being traded in the offseason, and I have the Ducks winning this one four to two. So that those are our game predictions. Um, you want to add anything else before any we get out of here? And I announce the the mask giveaway winner.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh, you have a winner.

SPEAKER_01:

Yep, so we had a total of let's see if I can count. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen people. Um uh put in for the winner. Uh, you want you want to do you add anything else before I announce the winner?

unknown:

No.

SPEAKER_01:

Alright. So I'm gonna spin the wheel right here.

SPEAKER_06:

You got a wheel you're spinning?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I have a wheel I'm spinning. And the winner is Santana.wess. Um, if you see this, uh send us a DM on uh Instagram and I'll get your information. I'll send the mask out to you. So congratulations to Santana West on winning the Wild Wii mask.

SPEAKER_04:

Hey, congratulations.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. And you guys can thank DJ Jojo for that mask. He's the one that gave it, uh gave me the extra mask to give away, so you guys can thank DJ Jojo for that one. So, you know, next time you see him and say hi, like, hey, I won that mask because of you on Royally Quacked. So um, what you want to add anything else before we get out of here?

It's tied 1-1 right now.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh who's your pick for the World Series?

SPEAKER_05:

Mine? Yeah, it's hard to go against a team that spends$330 million on payroll.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

Um and I you know, I'm an angel fan first. I don't hate the Dodgers, but I they they become the New York Yankees in a way to me because they just keep buying everybody up. They bought all the pictures, they bring everybody in, they spend all this money, and you should win. Um I would not cry if the Blue Jays beat him. So Wouldn't cry.

SPEAKER_01:

I I I wouldn't mind the Dodgers winning, but I know there's certain reasons why I don't want the Dodgers to win, only just because of the they're saying if the Dodgers win that there's probably not gonna be baseball for a while because of the CBA, because they want a salary cap to prevent this from happening. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Um but at the so this is the only reason why I would want Toronto to win is because I think it'd be funny how the Raptors and the Blue Jays win a ring ring before the Maple Leafs do. And if Toronto's considered, you know, Maple Leafs more. You know, and because the Raptors won it in 2019, and I I just think it'd be funny if the the Blue Jays won. And I like Vladimir Guerrero uh Jr. and everything.

SPEAKER_04:

The Blue Jays have won two World Series. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_01:

No, I know I'm just I know. I'm just saying with especially just with everything going on right now with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yeah, that's why I think it'd be funny.

SPEAKER_05:

So you think that uh baseball is really pushing for us, they're the only major sport that doesn't have a salary cap.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, uh that's what I've heard. I don't know if it's set in stone or anything, but yeah, that's just what I've heard.

SPEAKER_05:

It would definitely even in out of playing field.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05:

Can you imagine?

SPEAKER_01:

And I want to if we're gonna do if if baseball does a salary cap, they need a salary floor. Because like teams like Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, that the Oakland or Sacramento. You know, make baseball well it would be Las Vegas, hopefully a new owner, or who knows what's going on there. But I want these teams spending money to because like like if those team like hockey, exactly.

SPEAKER_05:

So you spend so much money, but you don't have to spend to the cap. But yeah, it gives that that's what makes it overly competitive. That's why every night the game is played. Um there are very few just easy games. I mean it might be seven to two, but it's highly competitive.
