Gary (00:30)
Welcome back hockey fans to Royally Quacked. Where one of us is royal and the other's quacked. It's for you to figure out.
I think I'm gonna get most of the quack votes, don't you think, Cody?
Cody (00:47)
Well, you definitely are very quacky for someone that's royally.
Gary (00:52)
You
Anyways, I have just I'm start off with a joke
Yeah. Yeah.
Cody (01:04)
Really?
Gary (01:08)
What was the hockey player's favorite part of his birthday party?
Cody (01:16)
What was the hockey player's favorite part of the
Gary (01:19)
of his birthday party.
Cody (01:25)
What?
Gary (01:27)
icing on the cake.
Cody (01:29)
That's not what I was even close to thinking.
Gary (01:35)
Well, I think we've had this. This is another joke. think we did use it on the podcast one. What do a bad hockey team and the Titanic have in common?
Cody (01:46)
both tank or both sink or something
Gary (01:50)
They both look good until they hit the ice. Yes, I think I did. But I like that one. So for trivia for the week, it's different folks. It's not for us. It's for you. So how many hockey Hall of Famers does it take to beat Gary and Cody at fantasy hockey?
Cody (01:52)
Yeah, I think you already said that one now that I remember
Gary (02:21)
Please message us, emails or Instagram or Facebook or X, Blue Sky, one of those ways. Let us know. First one to answer that question will get kudos from us on the next podcast.
Cody (02:29)
Twitter, Blue Sky.
Gary (02:43)
So.
Cody (02:46)
And only one listener can answer this question.
Gary (02:49)
Yes, one listener can't answer that question.
I'm sure there's gonna be someone that knows. Well, yeah, that person's gonna know.
Cody (02:57)
Yeah. And we kind of have photo proof too.
Gary (03:07)
absolutely have photo proof.
Yeah, so I just find it interesting. What was funny, I do believe the jealousy went both ways.
Cody (03:13)
I'm so jealous.
Gary (03:29)
So I.
Cody (03:29)
I wonder if Eric needs an assistant.
Gary (03:37)
You know, I would only tell you, I mean, I do love what I do, but I mean, if I could do something other than this podcast involving sports, that would be incredible. So I gotta say I'm jealous of his job too. gets to meet all the people. Yeah, gets pictures with them.
Cody (03:53)
love it.
Yeah.
Gary (04:06)
I'm sure there's a dark side to that whole thing too, that he has to jump through hoops or whatever else that may happen with what he does. But anyways, let's get onto the podcast. We've kind of skewed off course once again. Of course, well, I like to skew off course. So do we want to start with duck news?
Cody (04:23)
Yes, we have.
Yeah, so all right. We'll start we can start with Ducks news. So the Ducks did post something that McTavish is back at practice, so we hope to see him back in action soon. He did not play last night against the Sabres, which I kind of figured he wasn't, but hopefully we may see him on on Monday against Seattle. So if it's not that game, it may be.
the Wednesday game in Seattle. So hopefully we get to see him soon. I'm gonna skip my next one because that's something I would like to talk about a little bit more. So, per the Athletic, it is believed that John Gibson would be willing to waive his modified no-trade clause to go to the Oilers.
But I've also heard that the oilers aren't looking to upgrade their gold tending unit as of right now. But know, things could change pretty quick.
Gary (05:32)
Interesting.
Cody (05:33)
Yeah. And then also
Gary (05:37)
What's this thing with the ducks and the oilers? mean, they got Henrique and Carrick last year. Now the talk about Gibson. Wow.
Cody (05:44)
Yeah.
Yeah, it was also believed per the fourth period, Cam Fowler, well, that's the main one I'll talk about, but they're also looking at Ivan Provarov, David Savard and Marcus Pettersson are all trade options for the oilers as well.
Gary (06:05)
Wow.
Cody (06:05)
So that's per the fourth period. And then also something I kind of want to talk about the spit and chicklets podcast. So they were on their last episode, they were talking about how they heard that players are unhappy. The Anaheim players are unhappy with how Cronin is running things. But they also literally said on the podcast that neither of them have heard it straight
From the players mouths like they don't talk to the players or anything. This is something that they've heard rumblings about But it also could have but we also don't know if it was Like about this season or last season because I did hear rumblings about last season and stuff like that and I already heard that like for beak did talk to him like hey like I like your style keep doing what you're doing, but you just gotta lay off a little bit
And then that's why even Cronin brought in someone like Rich Clune, someone that's, you know, couldn't talk with the younger players in a better way than probably Cronin can and maybe help him out, like with, you know, with the younger unit and everything like that. but the best way I'm going to describe this or not describe like for you to
Understand this more is go listen to the latest episode of Crash the pond they go real into death about it Jake and Felix do So go go listen to that podcast and they do a great breakdown about this whole spittin chiclets in Cronin and duck situation and just to finish off on some good news for the ducks The ducks changed up their away uniform this last week
instead of wearing the white helmets they went with the orange helmets this against Dallas and Chicago and I think this is a new look that needs to stay and I believe didn't I not say during the whole rebrand that they should go with the orange helmets on the way I think I believe I did say that
Gary (08:23)
I'll take your word for it because I don't remember, does that mean they're going to go with white helmets with the orange at home?
Cody (08:29)
No, they were home last night and they saw the orange helmets. But it's like they're going to do like, like what the sharks do. The sharks wear their teal helmets home and away. And then I believe, Carolina wears their red helmets with their away uniforms too. So I think it's just like, it took me a second to like, I was like,
Okay, I kind of like it then the rest of the game like, okay, no, this needs to stay. This is the new look right here. So I'm going to end off with the happy note for the Ducks news with those beautiful, the orange helmets for the way uniforms. I love it.
Gary (09:10)
Yeah, I thought it looked good. Yeah. Yeah.
Cody (09:11)
It looked great and there are two and with it. They're undefeated with it so. Yeah. But that that is it for ducks news.
Gary (09:20)
Okay. So onto King's News. King's News. Alex Turcotte returned against the Red Wings. He only played two periods and then everybody thought, maybe he re-injured himself, but he was on the bench the whole time. So come to be that he was on...
Limited action first coming back. They did not want to just throw him out there to the wolves for the whole game So it was a precautionary thing to give him just a step up to play just the two periods also Kings news is
Andre Lee has been assigned to the reign and Helanius stays with the Kings. Everybody thought when Turcotte came back that it would be Helanius to go back and Lee to stay, but they did just the opposite of that. And the next bit of news is Carter George.
Scores a goal for Owen Sound. He is only the 11th player to score a goalie ever to score a goal.
in the league. So congratulations Carter George. our well as I'm going to go on a lot of this is about prospects the rest of the news is. In our our Goalie prospects in the in the minor leagues or in college are looking very very good. Also King's prospect Ryan Conmey a sophomore at New Hampshire.
after leading the team in scoring as a freshman last year is Continuing that to lead the team in scoring again this year and He was like a seventh six or seventh round pick. I Hampton Slukynsky He's flourishing at Western Michigan. He's played half the games. He's two one and one his Goals against average is a one point seven one
And his save percentage is like 944. How do you lose in overtime and lose a game doing that? They obviously didn't score goals for that boy. anyways, and then the last bit of news is the Kings have just that that happened early this morning because we're doing this Saturday morning. They recalled Phoenix Copley and sent Eric Portillo back to the Reign
So we're not gonna get his NHL debut, guys. I was hoping he'd get to play at least one game just to see what he could do, but that's not what happened. And that's Kings news for episode 39 of Royally Quacked, where one of us is quacked and one of us is royally. We're still trying to figure that one out.
Cody (12:38)
Yeah, quacky boy. Wait.
Gary (12:41)
You
Cody (12:44)
Alright, on the league news. You want to start it off or you want me to?
Gary (12:49)
started off. Bruins fire Montgomery after a slow start.
Cody (12:50)
Go for
Gary (12:58)
which and they named Joe Sacco interim head coach. Jim Montgomery's record for the Boston Bruins was 120 victories, 41 losses and 23 overtime losses for a 715 winning percentage. Including in that was
the all-time record for points in a season by a team. And he, in 2022-23 when that happened, he was the Jack Adams winner, which of course, as you know, is Coach of the Year. So anyways, Bruins aren't messing around and a lot of people are thinking they jumped the gun too quick. You know, the
There is problems there in Boston. And I know you've been bragging about how Washington has done so well that you predicted that, but who predicted Boston to be not as good?
Cody (14:10)
You never know, things could change around.
Gary (14:12)
It could.
Cody (14:14)
I mean look what happened to the Oilers last season.
Gary (14:17)
Oilers had more talent. Oilers bad start last year was more than the Bruins have had too much change. And a lot of change. And some of the players are just not picking it up.
Cody (14:20)
Yeah.
Gary (14:37)
So, and that's the news about the Boston Bruins. On to you on the next one, Cody.
Cody (14:43)
Makes me wonder if things continue with the whole Cronin saga that the ducks pick up Jim Montgomery
Gary (14:48)
Voo.
Would that be an awesome pickup for the, I didn't even think about that. Wow.
Cody (14:52)
So.
And you want to hear something also great. And it actually does like kind of go with the ducks is that Jim Montgomery was Troy Terry's college coach.
at Denver University. something, something I think, I don't think I honestly, I think that the ducks, I think if they're going to fire Cronin mid season, it should be for one coach that's already on the hot seat too, that I've heard is Mike Sullivan. If Mike Sullivan becomes available, I say Cronin by welcoming Sullivan. And I do like Montgomery as a coach.
I hear he's a really good players coach too. So, but I don't know if he's the right, I would say the right one. I still think he'd be, I still think he would be, Montgomery would be the great, a good coach to get us back to being like the Stanley Cup contenders we used to be, you know, in the mid 2010s.
Gary (16:06)
Let's see what happens time time will tell
Cody (16:07)
Yeah Yep Next bit of news the oilers have claimed forward Kasperi Kapanen off waivers from the blues So he's really he was once a promising prospect and now he's just been Waved or traded for a bag of pucks now, and so he's really hasn't done much He's bounced from here to there That's someone who I wanted the ducks to pick up but now it's like I think we
I really don't need him.
Gary (16:40)
Yeah.
Well, the next bit of news, Vancouver Canucks center JT Miller taking an indefinite leave for personal reasons. And they think this might be for a while. What a big blow to the Canucks because JT Miller is an elite center. He was probably top five or six centers in all of hockey last year.
Cody (17:05)
Yeah, he is.
Gary (17:11)
I mean, he did everything, went face off, scored goals, have plenty of assists. Having him out of the lineup is definitely gonna hurt the Canucks chances of repeating as the President Cup winner, President Cup is the most points.
Cody (17:29)
They weren't the president cup winners last year. No, the Rangers were. The Rangers won it. Yeah.
Gary (17:33)
Weren't they? no, they won the Pacific, the Rangers won it. That's right. I keep thinking back to 2012.
Cody (17:41)
that's 2011, I believe. I think they won it that year too. I think they won it back to back seasons, didn't they?
Gary (17:44)
No, it was 12 because Vancouver was the president.
And the Kings knocked him out and won the Stanley Cup. So gotta throw some love to the Kings there.
Cody (17:54)
Yeah, yeah,
Yep. Austin Matthews is in Germany for an injury treatment. Do you know what the injury is? I haven't really...
Gary (18:11)
I have not been able to get all the information, but you know if they're going overseas, it's something that's not approved here or in Canada.
Cody (18:22)
Yeah, it's it's been more popular for athletes to go to Germany for. it's it's like a stem cell treatment. That's what it is.
Gary (18:23)
It's it.
I'm probably, yeah, pretty sure probably that's what it is.
Cody (18:33)
Cause I remember listening to another unlocked on NHL. were talking about that. Cause like Kobe did it. LeBron James has done it. Somebody else major. Christian McCaffery. That was another big one that like they've been going over there to Germany for the stem cell treatment. So, yeah.
Gary (18:38)
Yeah.
Interesting.
And everyone knows that the race for Gretzky has been put on hold. Ovechkin went out and he's now out four to six weeks with a leg fracture. That's not great news for hockey because that's a big story. I know a lot of people because he's he's Russian, don't want him to get it.
Cody (19:14)
No it's not.
Gary (19:24)
You know, they don't want anybody to beat Gretzky. Gretzky's like, you know, he would be Jesus Christ to hockey. I mean, nobody wants him to get beat. I mean, it was always a class act. And I don't think Ovechkin's not a class act too. It's just that, you know, we don't have a big love for the Russians because they've always been, you know, a big rival for us as Americans at least. So.
Cody (19:40)
Yeah.
Yeah and he's tied for the most goals in this year already. He was on fire.
Gary (19:54)
But he's
Yeah, he's... he... Yes, he was. And what a sad way to put a damper.
Cody (20:06)
So I got a question for you. heard it on another podcast. So I'm going to steal this question. Now say if Ovechkin was one goal away or tied with Gretzky and you saw and you were able to go see him live against like say like for me to see him against the Ducks or for you against the Kings, would you be wanting
the kings to stop him so he doesn't break the record against you or would you want him to break the record while you're there against the kings? It's a good question.
Gary (20:48)
I just wanted to think about it for a second because my initial answer would be absolutely stop him. I mean
Cody (20:59)
but to witness history like that.
Gary (20:59)
The dot I Can't remember the Dodger pitchers first name, but his last name was Downing He gave up the 715th home run to Hank Aaron and they still talk about it. It's still in the news of for baseball I don't know if I'd want that to be against my team and I'm not even sure I mean If I'd want that to happen to the Ducks, I mean
Cody (21:25)
To be honest, if I was there at that game, I would want him to do it. I'm just saying, okay, I understand that. I'm just saying how cool would that be? be, I think to witness it. That's what saying. If you were at the game, like you were there at the game live.
Gary (21:30)
Well, you know how much tickets are gonna be to go to a game like that. It's gonna be ridiculous.
To witness it? No, to witness it's a whole different thing.
Yeah, it'd be fun to see. You know, you made me think about it even little deeper because...
Cody (21:58)
You get to witness history. Who knows if that's ever going to be done before.
Gary (22:00)
History, I know.
Amen. Done it.
Cody (22:08)
I mean, again, yeah, sorry. Again, like, like, sorry. Yes. Right. I mean, like something that's gonna be like, is someone's gonna break his record?
Gary (22:09)
Again, not before. Okay.
You know, that's the funny thing is we don't know what's gonna happen in the future with all the technology and everything else. it's just like, you know, they're trying to make us, the athletes almost like robots. You know, so.
Cody (22:31)
Yeah.
Gary (22:36)
Take a look at the, I mean, now we're going off on a whole other thing, but look at all the injuries that are happening. I mean, these guys are elite players. They work out hard. You know, how much can the human body take? And I'm seeing it in every sport. I mean, baseball, look at all the pitchers that were down. How many guys are having Tommy John surgery? It's almost like having, you know,
a Kardashian having some kind of plastic surgery, that's what Tommy John surgery is becoming into a baseball picture sport.
I don't know. I think that's a fair comparison, right? I mean, it's like common. I mean, I can remember when you and I were umpiring that there were high school kids, like freshmen, sophomore kids would have elective Tommy John surgery, elective Tommy John surgery, because they could throw harder after they had it done.
Cody (23:22)
Yeah, I would say so.
That's just crazy.
Gary (23:50)
I'm not sure I have not heard much about that anymore. Maybe it's, you know, those are rich people that can afford to do that because those surgeries are not cheap. You know, I'm not sure insurance would cover it, but you know, people want their kids to be pros that much. So we should we should move on with league news. Get away from that. Go me off on a whole tangent. Next thing I know, it's two hour podcast.
Cody (24:00)
No, they're not.
Yeah.
Yeah, ask her off was recalled and did make his nhl no not as it was an nhl debut But it was a shark's debut his sharks do yeah
Gary (24:26)
I'm not sure if it was his NHL debut, but it was his Sharks debut. I think maybe he played a game prior with Nashville.
Cody (24:35)
I think he did. Asgroth was recalled and did make his shark debut. Let's just say his first goal was not something he wants to remember. It wasn't a very good goal to give up. I'll just put it that way.
Gary (24:54)
Well that happens to the best of them.
Cody (24:56)
Yeah. But, you know, but he is definitely the shark's gully of the future though.
Gary (25:03)
I can remember quick when he was with the Kings, a shot was going around, he was gonna go back and stop it, and he went out to stop it, and it hit something and went right into the goal. mean.
Cody (25:13)
It hit, yeah.
Well, didn't he also have one where he went out to stop it and he like kind of tripped or something and it went off his paddle or his stick and went in the net too.
Gary (25:28)
Possible. I definitely remember the other one that one that's always a possibility. There's there's really stupid goals that do happen
Cody (25:34)
Yeah.
Gary (25:39)
though.
Cody (25:41)
Next one. I'll you because I'm going to talk about the next one after that.
Gary (25:43)
Thank
So I got Darnell. Darnell nurse is out five to 10 days with a head injury. So another injury guys.
Cody (25:50)
nurse.
Well, that one was because of, Ryan Reeves.
Gary (26:02)
Yeah, yes.
Cody (26:04)
That was the hit to the head that he did. Five games.
Gary (26:06)
I he got suspended like five games. Yeah. You can't go to a guy's head like that. That's just crazy. Yeah. Well, guess what's gonna happen the next time they play? Someone's gonna put a hurting on him.
Cody (26:12)
that was straight dirty. That's just uncalled for.
someone's going after Reeves.
Yeah, yeah. Let's just hope Darnell comes back soon, because you don't want to see anyone getting a head injury like that.
Gary (26:35)
And I'm curious because I don't know about the next one. So I want to hear you talk about that one.
Cody (26:39)
That's why I didn't put that's why specifically did not put what the what what it was. So the Nashville
Gary (26:45)
so you knew I didn't, you knew I didn't know about that one. Well, I've been pretty, I had not heard about it. mean, you know, unfortunately with my work schedule, when hockey's being played most of the time, I'm working. So unless I'm lucky to be in a vehicle, I can listen to a game, but a lot of the news sometimes I just don't catch it right away. I have to go look it up. So.
Cody (26:50)
I was hoping you didn't. I was hoping.
Yeah.
So the Nashville Predators take one of the most interesting penalties versus the Seattle Kraken. I want you to kind of guess what the penalty was. Just give me just a random guess. It's not a common penalty. I'm gonna tell you this now. And it happened right as the puck dropped, almost, pretty much, like 13 seconds in.
Gary (27:40)
Too many men on the ice? Because that would be weird right when the puck dropped.
Cody (27:40)
No, I said not common, but yeah. So the penalty was that the Nashville Predators did not put out the correct starting lineup.
So I can't remember. was Stamkos was supposed to be out on the ice or it was either Stamkos or whoever number nine is. I think it was like Forsberg maybe. I think he's number nine. One of them was supposed to be on the ice and the other one wasn't. But when they put out the starting lineup, it was pretty much vice versa.
Gary (28:14)
I don't
Cody (28:24)
If it was Stamkos in the lineup, they had Forsberg out there. If Forsberg was in starting lineup, then Stamkos was out there. So they got a penalty for having the wrong player out on the ice to start the game.
Gary (28:38)
So here's the question, was that something that the referee just noticed and called or was it something brought to their attention?
Cody (28:44)
I think they were saying Jessica Campbell, the first female assistant coach in the NHL, she's the one that brought it up to Dan Bylsma and he's the one that said something to the referees.
Gary (28:59)
Okay, so it wasn't that the referees caught it. To start with, they're yelling this is what happened and then somehow they called it. Which is really hard, hate when, you know, because I've officiated a lot of sports, I hate when people try to tell me what to call.
Cody (29:02)
Yeah.
I hate it too.
Gary (29:20)
You know, I mean, not that I was wrong in not calling something, but you know, I mean, the example would be the first base coach telling me that was a Balk. And I would look at him and I go, well, you called that faster. I was going to call that, but you called it faster than I did. And I go, I can't call it now because it looks like you led me to make that call.
Once you shut up and if I don't do my job, then you can have your manager come talk to me about it.
Cody (29:52)
Well, you wouldn't ask me to shut up and stuff like that. I know you... We had to be very professional out there. know you said it in a more professional way.
Gary (30:00)
No, I can't but I don't I don't have I don't have to be professional on the podcast with that I mean, yes, I was like, you know, I can't have you leading me you you need to you need to not say anything and Then if I miss it, then you can come talk to me or have your manager come talk to me about it Okay, is that better? I? Mean, I didn't I didn't cuss like two weeks in a row like you did
Cody (30:06)
Yeah.
I don't know. I don't know what your F. I'm just kidding. So I would say like the best way to put it is with the Nashville Predators penalty. was like when it was like out of they batted out of order kind of thing. Like, number nine was supposed to bat in this spot, but number 91 hit instead. It was like something like that. That's how the best way I could probably put it.
Gary (30:28)
You
Right.
So before we move on, your Aunt Judy called just before going on the podcast. She's listened to episode 38 and 37. And she goes, and I'm gonna talk to Cody about his cussing.
Cody (31:08)
because I said one word on each.
Gary (31:09)
Well, I think it's gonna be in fun, Cody.
Cody (31:13)
well listen to this one.
Gary (31:17)
Your mom will get on you if you've gone too far.
Cody (31:23)
I know. Because I know we have certain family members that listen to it. I try I'm trying to keep my cussing to a very minimum. Trust me, when mom and I had our little rant thing, I wanted to use every other word was going to be a different word. So let's move on, though. Go for it. Yep.
Gary (31:43)
Okay, so the next one's mine, right? Kraken Captain, and he just got named that captain this year, right? Jordan Eberle has undergone surgery on his pelvis and is out for three months. I mean, this is crazy. The amount of injuries in sports is just stockpiling. You I've been a fan for...
Cody (31:51)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Gary (32:09)
60 60 years So I What thank you
Cody (32:12)
You are that old. What?
You
Gary (32:23)
Thanks for reminding me. I brought you into this world, I can take you out,
Cody (32:24)
Anytime.
No, no, no, only mom only mom has claim on that. Okay, only mom
Gary (32:34)
I'm sorry but I do too.
Cody (32:37)
No, mom said it first and it's scary when she says it. But anyways, the Knights have signed forward Brett Howden to a five-year extension worth two and a half million AAV and 12.5 million overall.
Gary (32:55)
Okay, talking about injuries. mean, guys.
Cody (32:59)
Well, he probably leads the league in injuries every year.
Gary (33:03)
Frederick Anderson will undergo knee procedure that will sideline him approximately, from what I saw it was eight to 12 weeks. I mean.
Cody (33:11)
Yeah, so I think that's true. I think it's 8 to 12 weeks.
Gary (33:16)
You know, so we got what? One, two. We talked about an injury earlier. Ovechkin too. You know, three injuries and we got one. You get the next one. the, somebody's coming, possibly coming back.
Cody (33:25)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, makes me wonder if carolina kind of does a trade with the ducks to get gibson
Gibson going to Carolina. I think that'd be a great fit for him to be honest. I think. Yeah.
Gary (33:44)
I agree because they've been, you know, the boy, the boy you wanted the ducks to sign, but he signed back with Carolina's having a career year. He's like third in the league in scoring.
Cody (33:54)
Did I not look doesn't that make me look really good right now saying I wanted him for the Ducks I Mean, I'm not saying he probably would have had the same season. He's having right now But just shows you the caliber of player this this kid is
Gary (34:00)
Yeah, makes you
But you know, it makes your prediction on your duck team and how well they play look better because that's terrible. You were four and seven going into this week.
Cody (34:29)
I know I got one game right. I think I even got the score right if I remember.
Gary (34:36)
The Buffalo Game?
Cody (34:38)
I think that Chicago game was the one I got right. I think, right. I three, one.
Gary (34:40)
3-1. You had 3-1? Yeah, that's what I down. You had Buffalo 4-3 though. Was it 4-3? It was 3-2 though. Or was it 4-3? But you had that game right. Did you have Anaheim? Yeah, so you went 2-1.
Cody (34:45)
No, I think I was.
It was it. it was three too. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, okay. I'll say but let's finish this Laine skates with the Habs for the first time since his injury so I think that would be a good thing for him to come back because you know, he's had his issues and everything like that and I hope all the best for Laine with the Habs so I know the Habs really probably missed him right now. They need that score right now
Gary (35:25)
Yeah, veteran presence too. I mean, they got Caulfield. mean, but having two of them makes it much tougher for them to cover the ice, the defensive team that is. So we're gonna move on to our games. I think you have more games than I do.
Cody (35:27)
Yeah.
Yeah, you want to go first though? You got two games, you can knock them out pretty quick.
Gary (35:46)
Why?
Okay, so let's go, okay, let me just pop in here.
open this one up here. So we're going to go back to last Saturday.
Cody (36:03)
Sunday, wasn't it?
Saturday or Sunday? I think it was Sunday. Saturday. Saturday.
Gary (36:09)
16th? No, Saturday. Excuse me for correcting the guy who is correct.
Cody (36:16)
Wait, what?
Gary (36:18)
I didn't pick this game correctly, but we still won by the same difference. I picked a 6-3 score. It was 4-1. The Kings played the Red Wings last Saturday and defeated the Red Wings 4-1.
First period, Mikey Anderson gets his third from Philip Danault as ninth and Trevor Moore as tenth, which is nice. Trevor Moore is picking it up for the Kings. So that happened at the 1805 mark on a snapshot. Kings up one to nothing.
22 seconds later Tanner Jeannot scores his second from Trevor Lewis his third assist and Samuel Helenius second assist and his second point of his NHL career I like him up here
And he's a big boy. So now it's two nothing after one.
Yeah, one second period no scoring guys Which seems to happen a lot with the Kings they they just tend not to score
Then in the third period, at the 15th second mark, so wasting no time, Adrian Kempe gets his eighth, from Warren Foegele, his fourth assist, and Gavrikoff, his sixth on a wrist shot. So now King's up three to nothing.
Cody (37:45)
You
Gary (37:59)
Then we had about 18 minutes of just them beating each other up with no scoring happening. And Dylan Larkin gets his 10th from DeBrincat, his ninth assist, and Tarasenko is fourth on a backhanded shot. And it's now three-one Kings.
Not to be outdone, Adrian Kempe gets his 9th from Anze Kopitar, his 16th, and Trevor Lewis, his 4th, an empty netter at the 1911 mark on a wrist shot, and the final score of the Kings, 4-
Red Wings won. Let's go to the stars of the game.
Third star, still haven't, I still can't figure out. Third star scores two goals and he's third star and that's Adrian Kempe. Second star David Rittich who had goals against of one and a 944 save percentage. That was well deserved star. Could have been number one star. But the number one star of the day was Mikey Anderson getting a goal.
which was a really pretty goal right between ex-King Kalm Talbot's leg in the first period. Not sure I would agree with that. I would have probably put Rittich one, can't be two and Anderson three, but hell, that's what the media picked. So we're gonna have to go with that. Let's go over some of the few other stats.
The Kings on the faceoff have gotten much better. were 56 % to the Red Wings 44. Kings only had one power play and didn't score and they had two power plays and didn't score. So our PK worked again. We out hit them 26 to 22. Block shots. This is 31 for the Kings, 11 for the Red Wings.
Cody (40:00)
to kill you guys didn't have to kill a penalty
Gary (40:03)
right. was zero zero. They didn't. We didn't even take a penalty. Wow.
Cody (40:07)
Yeah, there was only one penalty the whole game.
Gary (40:11)
Wow, lenient refs. Anyways, giveaways. This is where I mean a bad game on giveaways. Kings had 19 only to be outdone by the Red Wings giving up 24. So again, last Saturday on the 16th it was Kings four, Red Wings won.
Cody (40:32)
The Yzerplan not working very well, is it?
the Yzerplan for the red wings.
Gary (40:39)
Iserman.
Cody (40:40)
Yeah, the Yzerplan.
Gary (40:43)
You know, they got enough talent. I don't get it. You know, they do have talent on that team. They have Larkin. mean, Talbot actually been pretty good in goal for them.
Cody (40:46)
They're not doing very well.
Gary (41:00)
So let's go to the 20th, which I believe was Wednesday, at home against the Buffalo Sabres. And guys, if you like a big scoring game, be thankful you didn't go to this game. Because there wasn't much scoring. So I'm going to give you the stats first, and then I'll go over the scoring. Because the scoring is actually the most boring part of the whole thing. The Kings out shot the...
Sabres 2319 Faceoffs
Cody (41:34)
2319, 2319. Sorry.
Gary (41:39)
my gosh. Yeah, I got it. I knew exactly what you're doing. Is that the actual numbers? okay.
Cody (41:40)
Monsters Inc.
Yeah, you know why it's called 2319?
Gary (41:51)
Okay, so another trivia question gonna be answered for you on Royally Quacked from Cody, what is it?
Cody (41:54)
Yeah
So 23 is the 23rd letter in the alphabet is W. 19 is S and it was a white sock. 2319.
Gary (42:17)
Really?
Cody (42:18)
Yeah.
Hahaha!
Gary (42:21)
Did any of you guys know that if you listen to Royally Quacked you can get educated on
Cody (42:28)
Monsters.
Gary (42:30)
Monsters Inc and maybe who knows what else you know Cody's brilliant mind comes up with You do have a good memory when you see something I wish I had your memory. I don't have that. You remember everything about the movie that we go see a movie you remember every little frickin detail and you go Well, didn't you see this I go I totally missed it and you have to explain it to me how many times
Cody (42:41)
I do? I have good memory? Since when?
you
I remember I had explained, think it was in one of the Avengers movie to you like 80 times for you to finally understand the concept of it. I forgot which movie it was.
Gary (43:06)
the one where black widow gets killed why couldn't they bring her back infinity war why couldn't they bring her back i mean they they brought back i mean with all these different universes
Cody (43:11)
Right, Infinity War.
Yeah, because.
cause you were, cause you were trying to remember how Gamora came back and why Black Widow couldn't come back. Cause they both kind of died for the same reason. And I had explained to you why Gamora came back and you didn't understand that part. That's what it was. All right. Anyways, let's move on to hockey time.
Gary (43:44)
Boy, how a podcast, mean, left turn, right turn, zigzag. zigzag so you don't get hit with a bullet, zigzag. That's what we're doing today. The Sabres, I'm gonna give it, this is gonna give away. They were one for three on the power play, 33.3%. Kings were O for five. Hits, they tied 19-19.
Cody (43:51)
Right?
Yeah.
Peace.
Gary (44:15)
and
Block shots, Kings 14, Sabres 18, giveaways, Kings 17, Sabres 19. That just seems like too many. Takeaways, the Kings had eight and the Sabres had three. So we'll go to the score.
Nothing in the first.
That's penalties. Wait a second. Yeah, nothing in the first. Nothing in the second. And in the third period on the power play, Sabres, Jason Zucker.
Cody (44:47)
Very early.
What? was very early in the third period it happened.
Gary (44:55)
Yeah 38 seconds in from his fourth from Dahlin his 12th and Tuch his 13th and on a tip in Buffalo won nothing. That's how the game ended. Let's go to the stars of the game Third star of the game David Rittich with a second great game in a row His goals against the average was 1.05 because obviously he got pulled
went six on five trying to tie the game up. His save percentage was 947. Only to be outdone by Luukkonen who had
Cody (45:35)
Come on, say the full name, say it.
Gary (45:39)
I can't remember his whole name. Luca, Pekka, Luca, then is that good?
Cody (45:39)
Come on. Ukko-Pekka Luukonen
W-w-w-w-w-
Gary (45:54)
You're lucky you're in Temecula I'm in Menifee right now, cause that's...
Cody (45:56)
I don't know why I felt like the little kid from Shrek. Do the roar.
Gary (46:00)
You
Boy, we're going off podcast here.
Cody (46:05)
Do it.
Do the roar. I think I'm the quacky one this this podcast.
Gary (46:13)
Cut, cut. We have to start all over again. Hell with that.
I... You didn't like it when I was quacky, huh? I took away your name? Did I, poor little boy?
Cody (46:27)
no, I'm having fun. Yeah. Yeah, I'm quacky.
Gary (46:36)
Okay, this is all worth it. I'm having too much fun. He had obviously a goals against average of zero. Cody's whatever Pukaleckanin and a thousand percent save percentage. Can't be better than that. And the number one star was Zucker with a goal. Anyways, those were the Kings games of the week. And we'll go on to the Ducks game. I don't know if it could be any more fun.
Cody (46:38)
Ugh.
Gary (47:06)
than it was for the Kings game this week, cause that was kind of fun. I'm having a good time.
Cody (47:12)
You
Alright, so the Ducks started this week against the Dallas Stars. This game, the Ducks, I would say dominated the first 20 to 30 minutes of this game. I don't know if it was the orange helmets with the white jerseys, but it was like a completely different looking team, but for a very good reason. They were dominating Dallas. You could tell like they just had Dallas's number.
To get the scoring started, Olen Zellweger starts the scoring off with his fourth goal of the year with a siss from Ryan Strome. This one, don't even think, was it, it was a Casey DeSmith. I don't even think Casey DeSmith even saw the puck. It was, it was like a little floater knuckle puck and it just went in the right spot. so Olen, well, Olen Zellweger gets the scoring started for the Ducks to make it one nothing in the first period.
That was within the first minute of the of the game too. And then Brett Leason around the five minute 5 45 mark scores his second of the season with a sis from Pavel Mintyikov and Radko Gudas. I'm telling you ever since I said that Leason needs to be in the lineup. Look what's happened. He scored and this was just a beautiful shot.
Mintyikov hit him on the wing and he just he just beat Casey DeSmith. It was just a perfect shot. I don't think Casey DeSmith was in a good was in a great position just better shot.
Gary (48:44)
You are-
that you wanted Leason to go in for Johnston and Johnston's been playing up a storm. So it's like.
Cody (49:00)
No. Yeah. But with the injury with Fabbri and McTavish being out and everything like that. So and then Cutter Gaudier comes in and scores his second goal of the year on the power play with assists from Brett Leason and Alex Killorn. This one was just a great, a great look from Leason's passing and his playmaking has just been on another level.
Leason was like just under the goal line like just not behind the net but like right next to it he just saw Cutter right in right there in the slot position right in the bumper position and Cutter just one timed it it was beautiful so that take that takes anaheim to three nothing after two periods and then the third period Esa Lindell gets his second of the year to make it three one
Ducks. know, this was just a great little passing play from Dallas. Like I said, almost the same thing as like how least Cutter discord his last goal and then Matt Duchene. God, are they getting him at a great discount? Right. Friggin three million. Was that three million dollars a year to get this guy? He just made a great move on Dostal. Nothing.
Nothing just all could really do about it. Just he out hustled everyone and got his 10th of the year. And then Jackson, LaCombe to ice the game to give us that nice little insurance goal. with the sis from Brett Leason and Cutter Gauthier, this was just a, I don't, I still don't know how he scored this goal. It was just beautiful. Cutter,
Passed it across, passed it behind the net to Leason. Then Leason just saw Lacombe coming in like right before the right side of the net and Lacombe just roofed it right in. I think it was a backhand roof. Beautiful shot. Dostal was in this game and he had 34 saves on 36 shots. Face the out end, so that means Dallas had 36 shots.
The ducks had 27 faceoffs somewhere. got a really fix. was 66 % to 34 % power play. We were one for two. They were over two. So penalty kills doing better. We out hit the stars because I said, we, I said, we dominated the first 20 to 30 minutes of this game easily.
So we out hit them 29 to 13 We had more blocked shots 21 to 12, but here's the thing. We got to get stopped doing the giveaways 24 to 18. It's not very good All around great game still love the orange helmets with the way jerseys The three stars of the game. Yeah, Matt Duchene is the third star with one goal in one point
Cutter Gauthier was the second star with one goal, one assist for two points and your number one star of the game, Brett Leason with one goal and two assist for three points. So the Ducks win this game with a final of four to two.
Then we play on a back-to-back where we go from Dallas to Chicago. I still understand why they always do the back-to-backs on away games.
Gary (52:50)
I'm going to tell you somebody always has to be away
Cody (52:54)
No, I know that, why do the... can't, like when the ducks are doing their home stand, like why can't they do the back-to-back while they're at home, not on the way game?
Gary (53:07)
because the schedule with the arena has a lot to do with that. I remember you saying that last week and I'm going like, well, somebody's gotta be away.
Cody (53:10)
Yeah.
No, I understand that. You know. No, I'm just like, no, but like in hockey, whenever you're doing a back to back, the team that's always doing the back to back is the away team. They're never the home team back to back unless it's like Ducks Kings where it's like the Ducks are home and the Kings are home.
Gary (53:23)
You're talking about the ducks.
I it's fair because everybody has to be away when they're doing back.
Cody (53:53)
I guess. All right. So, Bedard still continues to torture the Ducks even after we lost out on drafting him. He gets the main assist. Can't talk. In the first period, Jason Dickinson gets the scoring starter for Chicago with getting his third gold a year with a main assist from Bedard and TJ Brodie
Bedard has 11 assists and I'm pretty sure that's all against the Ducks this year. That's what it seems like at least. I gotta look up just Bedard's stats against the Ducks. Because he did have the 5 point last season against the Ducks. So like I said, I think he just, we're still getting tortured by the Badaard situation. Anyways. So Chicago takes the lead, 1-0.
And then Pavel Mintyikov gets his third goal of year with assists from Brett Leason. So now we are tied after 1.1. And then Jason Dickinson gets his second goal of the game, fourth of the season with assists from Bedard and Teuvo Terevinen. So that's now 2-1 Chicago going into the third.
Alex Killorn finally wakes up from hibernating and scores his third of the year with assists from Trevor Zegras to tie the game up at two. And then Leo Carlsson gets his sixth of the year to take the lead. I believe that's like his fourth or fifth game winning goal this year, I want to say. So at least you can, you know, when Leo scores, it's going to be in crunch time when you need it. So.
Leo Carlsson gets his 6th of the year to take the lead 3-2 with assists from Alex Kalorin and Trevor Zegras. So the Ducks win this one 3-2. They out shoot the Bedards 24-20. Again lose the faceoff percentage at 53-47. Both teams were 0-4 on the power play. The Ducks out hit Chicago 27-13.
Chicago had 15 block shots to the ducks 14 12 giveaways for the ducks 9 for The Chicago and Believe was it Gibson this game? I believe it was Gibson Yeah had to been Gibson, so I got something that in my throat
Gary (56:42)
It's contagious.
Cody (56:44)
Right? But I believe it was a Gibson this year, this game. Game summary.
Let's see. Yeah. Gibson was the yeah. So Gibson now moves to three and this season.
Gary (56:54)
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do do do
Cody (57:03)
Anyways, so Gibson saves 18 shots on 20 chances. Three stars of the game. Connor Bedard is the third star with two assists. Alex Killorn is the second star with one goal, one assist for two points. Jason Dickinson is the number one star with two goals for two points. And believe it not,
That was a three game winning streak for the Ducks. We are riding high.
Until last night.
Yeah. Wow, I really got that tickle. The ducks hosted so they're back home against the Buffalo Sabres.
Let's see. Drew Helleson got the scoring started for the Ducks getting his first of the season his second goal for his career To get the scoring started for the Ducks. This is from Trevor Zegras and Leo Carlsson This was just a great shot by Drew Helleson Because he shot it I got the perfect time where there was nothing but traffic in front of Ukko-Pekka Luukanen
He couldn't, he literally, couldn't see where the puck was. He completely guessed on where Helleson was going to go with it. Helleson put it to the right and Luukanen went left and just easy goal to make it one nothing for the Ducks. And then in the second period, Isaac Lundestrom got his third of the year with a assist from Ross Johnston and Olen Zellweger to make it two nothing Anaheim.
This was just a weird tipping goal. It's not a normal tipping that you see. Ross Johnston just shot it from the corner of the blue line and Isaac Lundestrom tipped it. But instead of like a redirect, it was more like he tipped it and slowed the puck down. But it went up and over, looking in and into the net. So the Ducks now lead two nothing. And then Alex Tuch scores his sixth of the year.
but I guess they're calling it own goal because it kind of was an own goal. it, the puck got behind Gibson and as Lundestrom tried to bat it out, hit Gibson stick and then went into the net. So Alex Tuch ended up was the last person to touch the puck for the Sabres. So he got the goal. Jason Zucker continues to
piss off the Ducks fans. He scores his fifth of the year. Owen Power gets the lone assist on that goal to tie the game up after two periods. 2-2. We go into third period. It was just a back and forth game. It was just back and forth. Chances for both teams. No one can score. So we go into overtime. And Jiri Kulich scores with
Just about a minute left to make it three to two to win the game for the Buffalo Sabres. And the only thing I have to complain about this game really, why didn't Cutter or Brett Leason get any playing time in the overtime? They didn't get a single shift. Now, Leason's probably been, I think those two together have been probably some of the best.
players for the ducks lately, especially this past week. Why aren't they playing in overtime? And they looked good even in this game. Why aren't they getting any playing time and overtime? And I guess someone asked Cronin after the game, like, hey, why didn't Lee center Cutter get any playing time? Like, well, if we would have not given up that goal, they were the next people on the ice. I'm like, yeah, but you played almost four minutes.
You played four minutes in overtime and they didn't get one shift, but Vatrano, who's struggled all year, gets double shift, gets, he gets multiple shifts in the overtime.
Gary (1:01:28)
So are we turning this into a rant now? I want one later too. I added it to the notes just so you know.
Cody (1:01:31)
a mini-RAM.
Okay.
Okay. All Well, I'm almost done. So, so the ducks lost this game three to two and over time. at least we still get the point. the ducks got out shot 32 to 24. so Gibson had 29 saves on 32 shots. the face-off percentage, God, we got killed in the face-offs again, 66 to 34. Both teams were 0 for 2 on the power play. The ducks out hit.
Gary (1:01:43)
No worries.
Cody (1:02:09)
Sabers which I still I'm still confused on the whole instigating penalty situation because Gudas gets a nice clean god I don't know I don't know if you saw the hit or not it was a he he knocked him the out pretty much and and sure enough someone goes towards Gudas it was a clean hit he goes
to do it isn't the hey, you know, and then they fight. I'm sorry, but if I remember right, if you if it's a clean hit and another player fights the player that did the hit, it should be instigating, right? No, it's not anymore. I'm I've always been confused with the instigate. It's like the instigating and goalie interference are like the two most confusing penalties in hockey.
So anyways, but then I forgot who else got the was I think Killorn got a hit or someone got a nice hit on another Sabres player and then and then Zach Benson goes and starts to fight him and then but then like, okay, yeah, we're not going to continue this. So they give Benson an extra roughing minor gave him a double minor and then gave I think Killorn or so I forgot who it was. I think it was a Killorn. Harkins.
It was Harkins. Jansen Harkins got a nice clean hit on a player. Benson went to go fight him. So Benson then got the double roughing minor. So on that, the three stars of the game. John Gibson was he was great in this game. He just he's making it look like he's going to be traded soon. If I say he's playing well, he's making great say honestly, he saved our ass last game.
So John Gibson is the third star, Rasmus Dahlin is the second star, and Jiri Kulich with the game winning goal is the number one star. So the Ducks go 2-0-1 this week, so they still get five points out of a possible six. So I say that's pretty good. So that is it for the Ducks games this last week. You want to go on your little rant?
Gary (1:04:28)
We could... If you want, yeah. I guess so. Alright. So... What do the Kings need, people? They need consistency! I mean... I've watched some of the games, and I've listened to... most of them? At least... some of the games. And a guy like Quentin Byfield, I mean, he's playing! Why is he not having any results?
Cody (1:04:31)
Go for it.
Gary (1:04:58)
We need to get him results. know that...
Hiller has moved him around to help. They put him on the power plate, but they took Brandt Clarke off and now he's on the second power plate with
The other defenseman. I'm trying to think of his name now. Jordan Spence. They have two defensemen on the second power play, they put Byfield in the middle and we're still not getting any goals. We need more consistency from a lot of the different players. We're just not getting a lot of consistency in the same kind of play. mean, the one guy who was consistent this week was David Rittich.
But we need get Quinton Byfield going. Trevor Moore finally gotten going. know, Kopitar never stops. Kempé never stops. I mean, if Kempé has a few bad games, then he comes in hot. He's been hot like hell. He's taken over the goal scoring lead from Laferriere. I mean, honestly, Laferriere is not going to get the MVP lately named, I think,
know, Kopi and Kempe have taken that over part of the double K line. But we need to get these guys consistent and playing consistently, you know, and I don't know if it's because of the contract that, you know, Quinton's not having as good a year, but I mean, we need to get him going. If we're going to do anything and be anything in the playoffs, we've got to get him playing.
So, Hiller, you need to kickstart it. You need to push. You need to get him going. We need some help. I mean, how do we lose to Buffalo one to nothing? I watched the game. Buffalo did a great job of just shutting everybody down. We're not moving enough. We need to move more on that power play. They need to not know where Fiala and Kopitar are all the time. Where we're switching spots, moving the puck more. A little bit more quicker and then a shot. Let's do it.
Let's get this thing going. Let's get these Kings winning. Let's win the Pacific division. We still have a chance. What do you think, Kings fan? You think we need to be more consistent? If you agree, let us know. Instagram, Gmail, Contact us on all the different platforms and so forth that Cody's going to give you at the end of the episode. And that's my rant for the week.
And are we going to go to predictions or player of the week first?
Cody (1:07:45)
Let's do Player of the Week.
Gary (1:07:49)
I know I saw you already put yours in, I already knew who it was. You know who mine is?
Cody (1:07:52)
Mm-hmm. Yep.
I think I have a feeling.
Gary (1:07:58)
Okay, well you go ahead first, you give yours.
Cody (1:08:01)
Okay, so mine is an obvious one because I've said his names differently whenever I've said his name on the scoring or plays that he's been in. Mine is Brett Leason this week. I know, right?
Gary (1:08:15)
No, God, I'm so shocked. my God, how could you pick him?
Cody (1:08:21)
Just kidding, it's Frank Ceravelli. No, I'm just kidding. No, I mean, yeah, I know, right? But I mean, Brett Leason has been my obvious choice this week. mean, Cutter would have been, was my, I would say my second, I would say this week. But, or Zegras too. Zegras has looked great this last couple of weeks too, or this last, yeah, two weeks or so.
Gary (1:08:26)
that would have been shocking.
Cody (1:08:51)
So, but Brett Leason, he had a three point night. He had another, I say one or two points against Chicago. I would say he's just, he's looked, when he's out there, he's making a difference. I mean, he's six, five, he has that long reach and he just, and he moves so good and not bad for someone who picked up off, picked up on waivers too. So I think for me, it was an obvious pick, but my, yeah, my player of the week is Brett Leason.
Gary (1:09:22)
I knew it. Well, you know, I could have had a few players. mean, You know, Kopitar is Kopitar. He just seems to keep going. I think he's what? 37 and he he doesn't look like he's slowing down at all and then Kempe's been on fire And he could easily be the player of the week, but my Kings player of the week Should have been better than one and one this week. I mean
He gave up two goals in two games. David Rittich is the royally quacked King Player of the Week. Yes. So shall we go to predictions?
Cody (1:10:03)
No.
Let's go to predictions. All right. Go for it.
Gary (1:10:10)
I'll do mine first.
Since you did put it in. wow. Okay, we differ. Same score, different team. And you put in a little caveat. Makes it harder for you to be right. Okay. On Monday we're playing at San Jose against the Sharks and I predict the Kings winning that game 6-3.
Cody (1:10:17)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Ahem.
Gary (1:10:43)
And then Wednesday, we're at home against Winnipeg, who is the hottest team in hockey. I'm sorry, Kings fans, but I'm gonna go with what I believe. I think the Kings will lose that game 5-1.
Cody (1:10:55)
Ha
Gary (1:11:01)
Then on Friday we play at Anaheim. We play at the Ponda. The Ponda Black Friday game, yeah fun. I wish I was off, I'd go. I gotta work. It's required. But I have the Kings winning this game, four to three. Ducks have been playing better.
Cody (1:11:09)
Black Friday game.
be an early one too.
Me too. Me too.
Gary (1:11:31)
But I still think the Kings have more talent, at least at this moment in time. And then back to back, although it's not at, it's home and away, but it's back to back games. They'll play Ottawa at home at four o'clock on next Saturday, which I really shouldn't be predicting anyways, but I'm gonna do it anyways. I have LA,
paying Ottawa back and beating them 5-4. So I have the Kings going 3-1 this week.
Cody (1:12:04)
Alright.
Alright, so for me, the Ducks will play Seattle on Monday in Anaheim. I the Ducks winning 3-1. On Wednesday, the Ducks play in Seattle and I have them losing 3-1. Then on Friday for the Black Friday game against the Kings, I have an overtime win against the Kings 4-3.
Gary (1:12:38)
Okay, goes out on a limb.
Cody (1:12:39)
I go out on a limb.
Gary (1:12:41)
Yeah, well, you're too big a guy to go out on the limb. And I'm too old to go out on the limb. So what do you think?
Cody (1:12:45)
Mm-hmm. Sure.
Yeah
We never did do our our jester or the
Gary (1:13:01)
You want to do Jester this week?
Cody (1:13:03)
Who's your Jester of the Week?
Gary (1:13:04)
Well, mine's a jester, yours a lame duck. I like that name better, jester. mean, funny guy. Funny guy, you know what? Second time he's won it this year is Quentin Byfield. He needs to be better for us to be better. It's just, it's a key. I mean, he's the key for us to become more. We don't become more without him. So.
Cody (1:13:07)
A lame duck, yeah.
Really?
My Jester or yeah lame duck
Gary (1:13:38)
You're lame, duck.
Boy, you're thinking, you're starting to think like a king now. I'm gonna have to change the name of the podcast.
Cody (1:13:44)
This is a tough one.
Yeah, to royally spoil.
Gary (1:13:56)
Yeah, you're the spoiled one, I'm royally.
Cody (1:13:59)
yeah, I'm the spoiled one. let's see. Who would be my lame duck of the week?
Gary (1:14:08)
It doesn't have to be a player.
Cody (1:14:11)
No, I know.
Gary (1:14:14)
Quit tapping.
Cody (1:14:18)
It's a tough one because they have been playing better.
Hmm. You know, even though he had a great hit last night, real game changer. He has looked a little bit better, but he's still not the player that he was last season, which that's the player who I want. It'd be Radko Gudas Jim.
Gary (1:14:40)
You're not picking Jim are you?
Jim.
Cody (1:14:46)
I was like, Jim, yeah, I'm picking Jim. Yep. But if I had if I was just going off of, you know, salesmanship, then it's definitely Brian. Brian was bad at selling stuff. Yeah, he was so bad. you finally watched it. So you like the part where Ryan was wiping his mouth with the king shirt?
Gary (1:14:47)
You're picking Jim, aren't you?
Hahaha!
God, he was, wasn't he? That was funny as hell. God, yes.
Did I, you know what? You know, he's gonna pay for that next week. In Anaheim, somebody, you know, it's probably gonna be Jeannot or Edmundson's gonna put a licking on him.
Cody (1:15:16)
you
not going to the law firm.
Gary (1:15:27)
Well, no, they'll probably have to get them out of jail. And that's not a line anymore. The law firm has been broken up, right?
Cody (1:15:38)
the law firm was broke.
Gary (1:15:39)
I don't know, it keeps bouncing back and forth, so...
Cody (1:15:42)
It's hard to keep up with the lines nowadays.
Gary (1:15:44)
Yeah, yeah, to know, to know and more.
Cody (1:15:48)
The lawyer line, that was perfect.
Gary (1:15:51)
Well, I like the BFF line too, or Byfield Fiala and Foegele.
Cody (1:15:53)
Yeah.
That was a line.
But all right, ready to get out of here? All right. Well, happy Thanksgiving, everyone, because this will be coming out on Monday, and we won't be recording until next Saturday or Sunday, whenever we're available. But happy Thanksgiving. Everyone be safe out there. And after next week, we can really kind of get into the whole.
Gary (1:16:03)
I am.
Cody (1:16:30)
playoff picture because usually what Elliott Freeman said is if you're usually in a playoff position by American Thanksgiving, you're usually going to be in the playoffs.
Gary (1:16:41)
It didn't work out totally last year because Edmonton wasn't in at Thanksgiving. And then they went to the.
Cody (1:16:46)
He said he said it's like 80 % right
Gary (1:16:50)
Yeah, well, that percentage went down even more after last year.
Cody (1:16:54)
Well, no, that was including last year. Yeah. Yeah, I think he said 14 out of the 16 teams last season that were in a playoff spot stayed in the playoff spot.
Gary (1:16:57)
How was it? We'll see what happens.
I know the Kings did, but obviously Edmonton overtook somebody.
Cody (1:17:10)
Yeah.
forgot who it was. So we can definitely break down the standings next week.
Gary (1:17:19)
Yeah.
Are we boring you?
Cody (1:17:30)
I'm tired, I haven't had caffeine yet.
Gary (1:17:32)
Really? It's like noon. You work in the you get up at the crack of dawn now with your new job.
Cody (1:17:33)
Nope. Doesn't mean I've had any caffeine.
