Gary (00:25)
It's time again for your favorite podcast, Kings and Ducks fan. It's time for Royally Quacked. Where he's quacked and I'm royally.

Cody (00:35)
Woo!

And he's spoiled.

Gary (00:43)
Well, yeah, talk about spoiled.

Cody (00:47)
I'm doing good. Another week, another stressful week and I'm not talking about work.

Gary (00:47)
How's it going, Cody?

Cody (00:58)
Yeah. I think we'll find out later.

Gary (00:59)
talking

Cody (01:04)
Yeah

Yeah.

Gary (01:08)
So we want to start off with the...

Cody (01:12)
Do you have a trivia question?

That's a no. Okay, so we'll move on to Ducks News.

Gary (01:19)
I'll work on one while you're doing duck News

Cody (01:21)
That's fine. Okay. All right. Real quick. I want to give a Gulls update for you guys after 10 games. The Gulls are actually, let me pull up the standings where, and I just had it up.

Anyway, I'll bring it up in a second, but So far the goals have played 10 games, but they've only played three games at home. They started off the Season Away at the Toronto Marlies and they lost both those games. The first game they lost was four to three and then four to one then they came kind of near home, but they went to or actually no they were home against Coachella Valley Firebirds

and they lost this one five to six. So, so far they're over three in the season. Then they're away at Bakersfield and they win this one three to two in overtime. And then they play the next four away. The first two they were in Abbotsford, they lost the first game three one, then won the second game four to one.

Then they moved to Calgary where they play the Wranglers and they lost both those games 4-3 and 6-2. And they come back home against the Abbotsford Canucks and lost the first game 1-3. Yeah, 1-3. And then they won the second game 6-4. I can say it's probably been a very stressful season for the goals. They haven't really looked...

too well so far. Let me see, let me pull up the standings real quick. They are right now second to last in the Pacific Division. Only the Henderson Knights are the worst team. So the goals right now are three and seven. Not a good way to start, I would say, but you know, they got a lot in...

They're a pretty young team so far, so can't really get too mad about that. Let's see. It doesn't pull up the stats for my team. Let's see if I go to the goals. Team stats. Let's see who is the standout so far for the goals.

So far Jansen Harkins Let's see. He has 13 points in nine games with three goals ten assists. Sam Colangelo six goals three assists with nine points in ten games Roland McEwen has eight points Well, he has four goals and four assists. Carson Meyer has seven points

with three goals and four assists and Ryan Carpenter also has seven points with two goals, five assists and the Pavel Ragenda agenda with seven points as well with one goal and six assists. So that's for the, what's my god, the forwards. Let me look at the goal. I'll see how the goalies are doing. Who doesn't want to pull up goalies for me? But,

That was just a quick recap on the goals. I'll try to do it like every month or so or every every 10 games for the the goals. here go goalies. Here we go. So the goalie so far, Calle Clang is two and five with a two point six two goals against average and Oscar Dansk one and two with a four point eight three goals against average. Calle Clang has a nine four save percentage and Dansk has a eight sixty one.

save percentage. hopefully things can get a little bit better there for both of them. You know, it's still like a young team there. So hopefully they start gelling pretty quick because they have a good team there. They do. I think they just need to work together as a team. So hopefully the goals will start getting better and hopefully make a push to the playoffs this year. So that's it for the goals update. Next bit of news. Gibson has returned.

He was in the lineup as of Saturday morning last night against the Wild. He was the backup goalie. So he was in the lineup. He just didn't play because Dostal has been the man. He's number one, but Dostal or not, sorry, Dostal. Gibson has returned. So probably maybe tomorrow we might see Gibson in the net. Maybe we'll see about that. I think he needs a break.

I think he's been overworked, Dostal has. So hopefully Gibson can help with that. And the next bit of news is per the athletic, Cam Fowler could be an option for the New York Islanders if they can get the cap space. So I wonder how that could work out because I know the Islanders don't have the best prospect pool. So I wonder how that would look like in a trade.

to get Cam Fowler over there and what we would get in return and if we would have to retain some salary or not. So that is it for Ducks News. Now we'll move over to Kings News.

Gary (07:04)
Okay, here's King's News. It's quick and not necessarily good news. Alex Turcotte injured in Nashville. It's not considered to be serious by Coach Hiller. It might be just a few games. My understanding, had nothing to do with concussion, which was why his...

rise to the NHL was so slow because he was he had suffered many a concussion in the minors playing for the Reign. Also bad news, Mikey Anderson got hit in the face. I do believe it was the ear area the other night and had to be taken off.

the ice and he didn't play in the third period but my understanding is it's not serious either and he may play tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Other news is Tanner the bad boy Jeanott has just hired the law firm of Danault Jeanott and Moore. Well no it's probably gonna be Danault or Moore representing him.

Cody (08:18)
he's representing himself?

Gary (08:24)
After his hit on Brock Boeser against Vancouver on Thursday night, it was unnecessary. He got a match penalty. Kings ended up, well, I'm not gonna, tell you about what happened with that later. It did have ramifications on possibly how the game ended. But that's also that same night, that's when Anderson got hit and was out the third period.

Cody (08:32)
That was a pretty nasty hit.

Gary (08:54)
So they were without both of those players. So, and I'll have probably Reign news for you guys next week, because I want to inundate the podcast with AHL news. I'll probably do mine on an opposite week of Cody. So then we'll move to league news. You want to start or you want me to?

Cody (09:22)
I'll start. McJesus has returned. He returned in a loss against the Golden Knights. Do you know, do you remember what night that was exactly that he returned?

Gary (09:36)
No. I think it was Wednesday or Thursday, I think.

Cody (09:37)
Okay, was worth a shot.

Okay, well, let's just say McDavid is back. It was Wednesday. Let's see, did he score in the game? Let's see.

No, he did not. But I bet you it was nice to have him back. So McDavid did return from his little injury stint. So.

Gary (10:04)
So obviously it was a precautionary thing when they sent him back to Edmonton. So it wasn't as serious, it was precautionary, that was the idea of why they sent him home. Well, on to other news, another superstar, Austin Matthews is out day to day. Boy, a lot of injuries have happened here in hockey lately.

Cody (10:11)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Gary (10:34)
So I haven't heard a report. Day to day usually means they could come back at any time. It's just a matter of how they.

feel after doing all the different.

I can't even think of the words I want to use.

Cody (10:54)
let's see. Austin Matthews skated, Saturday for the first time since sustaining an upper body injury, won't play for the Leafs when they host the Montreal Canadians. And that was at, that was by Dave McCarthy, per nhl.com. And that was at, as of 8 45 this morning, pretty much.

Gary (11:07)
tonight.

Okay.

Okay, so he's gonna be out at least tonight. He probably back their next game. So it's not a serious injury, which that's good news because he's a talent. So.

Cody (11:21)
Yeah, no

Yeah. All right. Next bit of news is Vasilevskiy is one win away from 300. Actually, do you to see? Do they play tonight? The lightning, lightning, lightning. Let's see. No, they don't play tonight. Or do they play yesterday? No. What about Sunday? Did I just not see them on the Saturday?

Gary (11:51)
I'm looking while you're talking.

Cody (11:55)
Let's see.

Gary (11:55)
That would be the Lightning and I don't see the Lightning playing Saturday. Let's see Sunday. Let me see. look Sunday. Blue jackets. No, Monday is probably their next game. No Tuesday. Boy, they're going to make him wait to play. No, you know every so often a team has a week off. Maybe that's their week off.

Cody (12:00)
okay.

This early in the season? No.

Gary (12:25)
I don't even see them on Wednesday. They play Thursday against the jet. the 13 and one Winnipeg Jets. Wow. That's crazy.

Cody (12:28)
they play Thursday,

Wow. Let's see, teams here. This will be the best way to do it. Schedule.

See wow they don't play till Thursday, holy moly Wow, and they've lost four in a row Wow, so they're really making them wait to get the 300

Gary (12:59)
And they ought to play the team with the best record, knock.

Cody (13:04)
And then the team with, think the next best record, the Devils after that. Wow. They have like six days off before. Okay. Well, maybe it's the time off they need after losing four in a row. So, all right. You want to go with the next one?

Gary (13:08)
Possibly.

Yeah, I do. Cale Makar injured in a game versus the Kraken. Did you have any more information how serious that was?

Cody (13:28)
Let me see if there's anything on the website.

Gary (13:32)
Well, while you're doing that, I'll do the next one real quick. So the Kraken have acquired forward Daniel Sprong from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for future considerations, which is probably some minor draft picks or.

Cody (13:35)
Yeah, go for it.

It could just be for backup pucks too.

Gary (13:54)
A bag of pot. Yeah, sometimes it's a salary dump. That's typically when you see future considerations, it's a salary dump.

Cody (13:57)
Yeah.

Yeah, exactly. I don't see anything on the, on the kiln of car front.

Gary (14:04)
Yeah, well, he's out. mean, and he's like, he's having an awesome season.

Cody (14:10)
Well, it doesn't help that like half their rosters injured too. So

Gary (14:15)
True, that's why Colorado's had such a poor start, they're injured, but they got Lekkinen back, And he played really well his first game, and he'd been out for a while, I know you wanna do the next one, I'll let you.

Cody (14:22)
That's good.

Yeah.

All And last bit. yes. Last last bit of news is he's back. Jeff Marek returns to the hockey entertainment industry by joining the Nation Network, and his show is called The Sheet with Jeff Marek. It is out on Spotify and Apple. His first episode is not out yet, but he does have an introduction trailer.

Gary (14:37)
Baaaah

Cody (14:59)
out so check it out. I'm super excited.

Gary (15:00)
That's so, that is so awesome. I have missed him. Yeah, I mean, I mean, his replacement has, I've gotten kind of used to him, but it's different. It's not Jeff. I mean,

Cody (15:07)
I have missed him too. I listen to the Jeff Marek show every day.

Kyle?

It's different.

Gary (15:25)
When you got 32 thoughts, this is the podcast 32 thoughts. He was a cohost with Elliot Friedman and there.

Cody (15:35)
rapport together.

Gary (15:36)
Yeah, I mean just... And it was a lot of sarcasm and funniness and if you don't know anything about me and Cody, you can ask my wife. We drip with sarcasm.

Cody (15:53)
That's my it's my first language.

Gary (15:56)
Yes, but before we move on to the games, I do have the trivia question for you.

Cody (16:02)
Alright, go for it.

Gary (16:05)
What was the Anaheim Ducks longest undefeated streak at home? How long was it?

Cody (16:14)
God, this was

I want to say it was like 20 games, wasn't it?

Gary (16:21)
Pretty close.

Cody (16:23)
I know it was during...

Hmm.

Gary (16:30)
So I'll give you multiple choice. 24 games, 20 games, 18 games, 22 games. You already know 20 games is not the correct answer. So you gotta pick from the three.

Cody (16:33)
Okay.

What? So, 22?

Gary (16:47)
22 games from October 10th, 2013 to January 21st, 2014. Over three months of home games, Anaheim Ducks were undefeated in home games. The historic 22 game streak officially ended at a record of 20, 0, and 2. The Ducks were just the fourth team in the 40 plus seasons to record at least

a point in their first 22 home games of the season.

And that was from the start of the season. Pretty incredible, huh?

Cody (17:25)
Yeah, I remember the ducks had also like, like, I believe it was the flames were the ducks didn't lose at home to the flames for like five or six years or seven years. It was like something crazy, like.

Gary (17:47)
Can you see that?

Cody (17:49)
No, because you got to put it towards the camera. There you go. Always.

Is that mom? Okay.

Gary (17:57)
Yeah.

You got an affirmative.

Cody (18:01)
Okay, sweet. We're gonna have a special treat for y'all tonight. So let's get into the games. So I think this week we'll do the opposite of what we did last week. I'll let you go first. Because you got four games to talk about and I only got three.

Gary (18:07)
Yeah

Do it.

so I get to do my fruit.

Okay, good idea.

Cody (18:24)
So you go ahead and start yours.

Gary (18:27)
Okay Well, you know episode last week was the roller coaster ride Continues well it continued on Saturday and It was the plunge The Kings played the

Chicago Bedards and get get first first. Let me see. I want to I got to get to the right spot here. There we go. Let me just go through the scoring first period. Kings MVP Alex, Alex Laferriere scored his seventh goal on the power play.

From Kopitar, his ninth assist, and Fiala, his fourth assist, on a wrist shot.

And I don't know if that statement will come true, but right now he might be the Kings MVP. I mean, he's playing. He is playing. so that was one nothing after one. We go to the second period MVP, Kings MVP Alex Laferriere scored his eighth goal from Alex Turcotte with his fourth assist. And

Philip Danault's fourth assist on a wrist shot at the 1837 mark. So after two periods, your Los Angeles Kings are beating the Bedards two to nothing. So we start the third period and not too far in, Nick Foligno scores from his fourth goal from Allen, his third assist on a wrist shot at the 326 mark and makes it two to one.

Craig Smith scores at the 534 mark, his fourth goal from Reichel, his fourth assist, and Vlasik, his sixth assist, on a snapshot. So now it's two to two.

Cody (20:29)
You

Gary (20:34)
Then, Philip Danault scored his first goal, which is something where they were hurting with Danault, Byfield and stuff. They weren't producing like they were expected. That came his first from Fiala, his fifth, and Trevor Moore, his third assist on a backhanded shot at the 11.48 mark.

But Chicago pulled their goalie and at the 929 mark Tyler Batuzzi scored his fourth goal from Donato, his second assist and Seth Jones, his seventh assist on a tip in. It went to overtime, no scoring in overtime. Shootout. Shootout started with Trevor Moore scoring.

Team name Badaard also scored on the shootout. Laferriere did not. Tara Vynand scored. Kempe scored. And then Donato scored. So basically there was one save in the whole shootout, which is really rare. Really rare. So it ended up being 3-2. Chicago won in a shootout. So.

Cody (21:42)
really re-

Gary (21:53)
And the Kings totally outplayed him. Honestly. As a game, the Kings should have definitely won.

So let's go on to the next game.

Cody (22:05)
You're on me to go now

Gary (22:07)
Yeah, why don't we go in order? That was on Saturday, November 2nd.

Cody (22:16)
Yep. So first game for the Ducks. First game of the six game home stand after a terrible road trip. Let's start thing. Hopefully I was hoping I first game of a six game home stand. Let's start it off good. We're going to start it off against the Chicago Bedards. They're on a sick on a.

On the second game of a back to back after just playing the Kings, after going in even into overtime and shootout, hopefully they'd be nice and tired for the Ducks. Let's take advantage of it, right? Wrong. I mean, okay. I would say half right or I would say like 25 % right. Yes. The Ducks looked fantastic.

Gary (23:02)
Wait a second. Half right 25 %?

Cody (23:06)
I said no, no, no, I said however I said no 25%. Okay, they were 25 % right. My math is math thing. Okay, leave my math alone. Yeah, because I didn't have to cheat like the other ones.

Gary (23:17)
You're my one that knew math.

let's not go there.

Cody (23:26)
oops, I'm just kidding.

Gary (23:29)
You know who's in trouble for next week, No, you.

Cody (23:32)
Yep, you.

Nope. Trust me. No, I'm kidding. All right. Anyways, the Ducks probably looked their best in the first seven to 10 minutes of the first period. And then as soon as Isaac Phillips scored for the first Chicago, it was pretty much over after that. The Ducks looked just defeated after just one goal. And I'm telling you, the Ducks had

Gary (23:38)
Go on, sorry.

Cody (24:04)
14 shots on the first period, 14 shots on goal in the first period and nothing. I'm not saying like in either they were getting good chances. They just, they couldn't put anything in the back of the net. And then as soon as Isaac Phillips scored, it was like, our season's over. We're done. Let's just stop playing. That's pretty much how it felt. You know, whatever. Who cares?

That's literally what it looked like. The Ducks just looked defeated after that. And then for about four minutes later, Teuvo Terevainen scored his fourth of the year on a power play goal. And it was two nothing after the first period. We go into the second period. Seth Jones gets his second of the year on a power play goal. You hear that?

That's two power play goals. The ducks gave up this game already. Not good. Third period. Brock McGinn scores his second of the year to make it three one Chicago. Okay. Now we're, you know, we a little momentum and then

happen. Okay, there we go. And then Ryan Donato scored for Chicago, his seventh of the year to make it four one. And of course, just as, just before the game was over with four seconds left, Mason McTavish gets his first goal of the year on a power play goal to make it four two. The ducks did out shoot the Bedards 40 to 29.

We actually won the face off percentage, but barely. We literally won it 51 to 49. Barely won. Power play percentage. This is what hurt us right here. And you're going to hear me again with this later.

But the Bedards were two for two on the power play the ducks were one for five and that one was with four seconds left in the game

Gary (26:18)
And they probably pulled the goalie, right?

Cody (26:21)
did they? Maybe. I don't know.

Gary (26:25)
No, would be an empty netter then.

Cody (26:28)
No, no, the power play goal for the ducks was with four seconds left.

Gary (26:31)
they. I thought, well, no, it wouldn't be empty netter. thought maybe the ducks would have gone six on four.

Cody (26:39)
Who knows? Well, yeah, true.

Gary (26:40)
Why not? You're down 4-1. Who cares if you get another goal? I try to listen as much as I can, but I miss a lot of the games because of work, so I just ask them.

Cody (26:52)
Yeah. So, yeah, the, the Blackhawks had 25 minutes and penalties. The ducks had nine hits, 19 for the ducks, nine for the Chicago block shots. This is what's the big key here. 26 block shots for the Blackhawks and seven for the ducks.

16 giveaways for Anaheim, 12 for Chicago, and then the takeaways each team had six. But like I was saying, the power play needs to get better. How can you tell me you have five opportunities like that and nothing to really show for it? Like really, nothing to really show for it. Let me see if I can pull that up.

game summary. I could. Let's see when the ducks were on. No, it's not going to show me, is it? No. All right. We're not going to worry about that. So like I said, you can't just get defeated after one goal like the ducks did. I mean, OK, the ducks did play well. Chicago did, you know. Just put the buck, the puck in the back of the net, but like

This is the game that ducks probably should have won, but at the same time they should have lost at the same time. Cause like, they just look out of it. They were getting beat to loose pucks. were giving Chicago second, third chances. So, and it doesn't help that they have the dar, which should have been ours. So, all right, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll move on. done with this. I'm done with this game. So, all right.

You can talk about your second game.

Gary (28:52)
Okay.

And the roller coaster ride continued again from the being at the bottom of the valley on that roller coaster ride. They go to Nashville and play the predators who probably had one of the best off seasons from what everybody thought. But let me tell you the Kings played great.

Let me go over the scoring. First period Anze Kopitar. The cap scored his fifth from Brandt Clarke, his 11th assist and Adrian Kempe, his seventh on a wrist shot of the 1324 mark for a one nothing lead for the Kings. Second period really went with

No scoring for either team. So after two periods the Kings are up One to nothing then in the third period 35 seconds into the third period Kevin Fiala scores a six goal from Danault His fifth and Trevor Moore his fourth on a wrist shot. So the Kings are now up two to nothing

To close out the scoring Adrian Kempe scores his fifth an empty netter from Trevor Lewis and Gavrikov Lewis's second Gavrikov's fourth at the 1702 mark a wrist shot Kings win the game three to nothing

Fully great defensive game, shut out for Darcy Kuemper.

The Kings had 27 shots, Predator 16. Kings won the face-off 54.5 % to 45.5%, which has now been picking up. The Kings have definitely improved on their face-offs. Kopitar is over 50 % now, which I never heard him ever being under 50%. Power play wasn't much.

I mean, neither team, Kings were 0 for 4, Nashville was 0 for 3. But for the Kings penalty kill, that's another game with no penalty, no power play goals given to the other team. Penalty minutes was 20 minutes for Nashville, 18 minutes for the Kings, of which.

Anyways, which is good now Nashville out hit the Kings 21 to 12 and out hit them in block shots 14 to 12 and then Giveaways Nashville had 11 the Kings had 10 takeaways the Kings had 8 and Nashville had 3 So

Let me go to the, I didn't even give you a, I really didn't want to even give the three stars of the game when they played the Bedards. I was kind of ticked off.

Cody (32:13)
even do my three stars either.

Gary (32:16)
Yeah, third star Kevin Fiala with a goal. Second star Anze Kopitar with a game winner had a goal. And the first star of the game is Darcy Kuemper. He had obviously 16 for 16 on the saves. So his GAA was zero and he was the first player of the game. So on

On to your Tuesday night game, Cody.

Cody (32:47)
I'm actually looking at the three stars of the game for the game against Chicago. You want to know what's crazy? Bedard wasn't one of the three stars. That's one. The third star was Seth Jones with one goal. Brock McGinn was the second star with one goal. Taylor Hall was the first star with two assists for two points. Bedard had three assists that game.

Gary (32:52)
Yeah

What?

Cody (33:14)
Yeah, Bedard had three assists, not only three assists, three primary assist, and he wasn't one of the 30 stars. Taylor Hall was the first star with two assists, none primary, I think. no, sorry, one primary assist, and he wasn't even one of the three stars.

Gary (33:21)
Any.

So in case anybody wants to know a primary assist is they're the one that passed the puck to the guy who scored first. I mean the last pass. So you can have the secondary and the primary. Some people want to consider the primary as the key one, but they all count as a point. So.

Cody (34:00)
Yep. All right.

Gary (34:02)
Okay.

Cody (34:04)
Now it's the game that happened Tuesday, I believe. Yeah. Tuesday on election night, the ducks against the Vancouver Canucks ducks and Canucks. I always love saying that. don't know why this game was just bad. I'm going just tell you that now. The ducks lost this game five to one started off really well.

We started off with not only a power play, but a power play goal from our defenseman. Olen Zellweger got his second of the year with assists from Troy Terry and Mason McTavish. So they started off the scoring and got the first goal of the game finally. And the Ducks lead won nothing.

10 minutes later, Brock Boeser scores his sixth goal of the year for a power play with assists from Hughes and Miller. And then former Ducks and goals legend, Kiefer Sherwood scores his third of the year to make it 2-1 Canucks. And that now was in the first period. In the second period, Elias Pettersson scores his second of the year.

to make it 3-1 Vancouver. In the third period, Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen each get a goal in the third to make it 5-1 total. Here's where it hurts the Ducks again. The Ducks got outshot in this game 37 to 22. Faceoff percentage, 54-46. Power play, the Canucks were one for five, so against a team like that,

That's fine. As you know, got Quinn Hughes, who was the Norris trophy winner last year, probably one of the best powerplay quarterbacks in the game. And you got Brock Boeser. You got, what's his name? JT Miller and Elias Pettersson all on one powerplay. Okay. I can handle one goal, but the Ducks got to do more on their powerplay end too.

They were one, the ducks were one for four. They got out hit. They got out hit or you out hit. They, the ducks got more block shots with 19 to seven, but 13 giveaways in this one. 13 giveaways. That's not good. That's not good. So the ducks lose this one five to one.

The three stars of the game is Olen Zellberger was the third star with one goal. Vesser was the second star with one goal, one assist. And the first star of the game was Quinn Hughes, of course, with three assist. So I'm going to bring something back to this game later on. So we'll see that later. So I'll let you go to your next game, Dan.

Gary (37:26)
Okay, my next game.

second game on our two game road trip went to, excuse me, to Minnesota to play the wild and a Minnesota wild team that had only lost one game in regulation. So, you know, the Kings obviously came through and beat Nashville and you know, what have we been on this roller coaster ride people, right? So what do you expect?

You know, we were at the top over there on Nashville with that start crashing down, but guess what happened? They didn't crash. I mean, they did get outplayed in the first period. They were out shot nine shots to two, but no score in the first period. So in the second period, let's go through how the scoring happened.

Zach Bogosian scored his first goal from Goudreau, his fourth assist, and Ryan Hartman, his first assist at the 731 mark, a wrist shot, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead.

Cody (38:25)
Caution.

Gary (38:38)
Six minutes and 59 seconds later, Warren Foegele scores his fifth assist from Alex Laferriere, his fourth, and Quentin Byfield, his sixth, tied the game at the 1430 mark, a backhanded shot.

Then on the power play, Kevin Fiala gets his seventh from Alex Laferriere, his fifth assist, and Anze Kopitar, his tenth assist for the Kings to take a two to one lead. And that was a snapshot.

Then we go to the third period. Trevor Lewis scores his second from Andre Lee, his second assist, and Tanner, the bad boy, Jeanott got his first assist at the 739 mark on a wrist shot. So the Kings are now up three to one. okay, Cody, can I get like a drum roll or a trumpet?

Guess who scores? Quinton! Byfield with his first from Gavrikov, his fifth assist, Trevor Moore his fifth assist at the 14-12 mark on a tip in. Yay Quinton! It's about time!

Kings are up 4-1. Then, not to be outdone by Quinton, Trevor Lewis scores his third goal, second of the game. Empty netter from Philip Danault is sixth. Trevor Moore his sixth on a wrist shot at the 16-14 mark. Kings win in Minnesota, 5-1. So the Kings outshot the Wild...

28-24 on face-offs the Kings were 52.4 % to the Wilds 47.6 % Kings were 1 for 1 on the power play 100 % and for the second game in a row no power plays against the penalty kill in the last two games is 7 for 7 at shutting them down the Kings had 10 penalty minutes the Wilds only had 4 Kings out hit them 25-11

out did 13 block shots to the wilds nine giveaways kings nine wild 13 and takeaways were four for the kings seven for the wild and let's go to our three stars of the game so i want you all to think about it who might be the three stars of the game and

The third star of the game is Warren Foegele with a goal.

The second star of the game was just Mikey Anderson playing defense. And the first star of the game. Our future superstar Quentin Byfield with a goal and assist now. Isn't it funny that Trevor Lewis had two goals and he's not even a star in the game? I mean, this is picked by the media. It was probably picked by the media in Minnesota.

Cody (42:09)
Yeah.

Gary (42:09)
Obviously they don't like Trevor Lewis. Trevor Lewis, would have been, I think I'd have given you first star.

So that was Wednesday night's game for the Kings. Yeah, Wednesday night, right?

Cody (42:29)
Wednesday. Sure. Thursday. Wasn't it?

Gary (42:30)
Yeah, I think so.

No, Thursday was Vancouver. Or maybe the first game was Monday and this was the fifth. Monday and Tuesday. This is Tuesday's game. Sorry people. And then Thursday was Vancouver, which I'll talk about after Cody talks about the duck game.

Cody (42:40)
nevermind.

Tuesday. That was Tuesday.

Yeah.

Alright so this game happened last night, Friday night. Minnesota was in... was... I can't talk. The Ducks hosted the Minnesota Wild and lost this game 5-2. And of course this is pretty much how it's been all season. Jake Middleton starts the scoring off and makes it 1-0 Minnesota.

And then a couple of minutes later, Marcus Foligno scores to make it two nothing, wild. then who else on the wild, but Kirill, the thrill Kaprizov three minutes later, makes it three nothing with his eighth of the year. So now it's three, nothing going into the, into the first period, second period, we had no scoring, but Robbie Fabbri scored his

second of the year unassisted to make it three run to start the third period. I was like, all right, cool. Let's get some momentum. Let's get going. Nothing. Nothing really happened after that. Marco Rossi scored his fourth of the year to make it four one Minnesota. And of course the probably the best player right now currently. Kirill Kaprizov scores his second of the game, ninth of the season.

on a power play goal to make it five one Minnesota. And then of course Mason McTavish for his second goal of the year and his second goal of the week with I would say garbage time goal to make it five two. He scored with 13 seconds left. But again, the ducks like the, the ducks actually did out shoot Minnesota, but does

doesn't mean that just because you out shoot a team doesn't mean it's a good thing. You gotta get stuff in the net. That's what the ducks issue is. They can't get anything in the net. So.

Gary (45:04)
Yeah, they're not getting high quality shots.

Cody (45:06)
No, they're not face off percentage 58.3 to 47 point or four. Sorry. I'll just say 58 to 42 power play the Minnesota wild was one for two. The ducks four, six. They literally almost had six straight minutes of power play time. Nothing.

And one of them was a double minor. And they started that power play off really good. But it's like they don't do anything on the power play. They're not moving. All they do is pass around. If I was the team, was like, just let them pass it around. And just don't let them cross-ice passes and we're good.

They're not moving. They're not moving the defense around. That's what other teams are doing on the power play. They're moving. They're getting the defense move to get open looks. The ducks are just, all I'll pass to the wing. No, I'll pass it back to the top. Pass it to the other wing. Nope, nothing. Pass it back to the top. Pass it behind the net. there's nothing. You got to do something other than just pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. You got to pass, move or switch with someone like, you know, like

have like Zegras go to the bumper or go behind the net like they're just standing there.

And it's bad. It's just we can't be doing that. That's why our power play is one of the worst in the league. So the Ducks lose this game five to two. Third star of the game was Philip Gustavs Gustavsson and he gave up two goals and he had a nine forty three save percentage.

And then Frank Vatrano was the second star of the game with zero points, he looked good. He did. And then of course, Kaprizov was the first star of the game with two goals, one assist for three points. that was really like, it was another hard game to watch offensively for this team. I'm to, we can't.

Always rely on Dostal to save us every game. We got to do something to help him out.

Gary (47:39)
Well, have you noticed the save percentage has been dropping a lot because they're just giving up too many high quality

shots at Dostal. mean, a goalie can only do so much. So.

Cody (47:48)
Yeah, I'm not blaming Dostal for nothing. There's maybe I think one game or one goal last game where I was like, OK, maybe he could that I was like, maybe he could have stopped it or whatever. But after that, I'm like, you guys, you guys got to help him. You know, he can't be on 24 seven.

all the time. You got to give him some like insurance. You got to give him some type of help. You know, it's like those stalls pitching a perfect game and then but nobody on the but at the same time, nobody on your team on offense is hitting the hitting the baseball. No one's getting on base. No one's scoring or you get the bases loaded with no outs and you get into a double

freaking easy double play and then the next guy strikes out, you know, it's just like they're, not helping offensively for do stall.

Gary (48:53)
They gotta quit watching the angels.

Cody (48:58)
Yeah, that's what it seems like.

Gary (49:01)
Well, hopefully that's all gonna change.

Cody (49:03)
Yes, so that was the last game of this week to talk about for the Ducks. So they start the home stand 0 and 3. Yay. Sounds great, right?

Gary (49:14)
Yeah, and I have one more game.

Cody (49:17)
Yep, I'll let you talk about that game now.

Gary (49:20)
So our two game road trip, went 2-0 and we come home to play the Vancouver Canucks. The current Pacific division champs, because they had the best record last year. But let's talk about this game. First period.

Quinton Byfield gets goal number two, so he scored in two games in a row. At the 1.43 mark of the first period, Laferriere with the sixth, Foegele with the second on a backhanded shot, Kings up 1-0.

But at 1420 on the power play, Connor Garland scores unassisted.

to tie the game at one to one. So there goes our streak on the PK. Then we go to the second period and Jake DeBrus scores his third from Quinn Hughes, his 11th and Hronik, his fourth at the 5.51 mark with a wrist shot to put the Canucks up two to one.

And that's how the second period ended. And then we went to the third and now it was Quinn Hughes scoring unassisted at the 244 mark with a wrist shot to put Vancouver up three to one.

Vladislav Gavrikov scores his first from Trevor Moore in the third period. This is in the third period. From Moore his seventh and Danault his seventh at the 1357 mark on a wrist shot. So it's now 3-2. Then with the goalie pulled, JT Miller scores unassisted. At the 1846 mark,

a wrist shot to put Vancouver to the final of 4-2. So, I mean, did we play awful? No.

but we are playing a better team. I'm probably one of the elite teams of the Pacific. And I thought we played well. We just didn't put the puck in. So here are the stats of the game. Ducks outshot the Canucks 28-23. Face-offs, the Kings lost that 51 to 49%. Guys, that's okay. You just don't want to get waxed on that.

on the power plate that kings were 0 for 4. mean the Canucks were 1 for 3 obviously with the unassisted Garland goal in the in the first period. Penalty Minute

Cody (52:25)
Well, technically that wasn't an unassisted goal. If you watch, I was watching the game cause I was like, why does this say on it? I was like kind of curious why it said own on the thing. It was a, it was a power play goal. Kuemper knocked it in. So Garland kind of hit it towards the net and Kuemper hit it with his stick in.

Gary (52:48)
You know, I do remember I was listening I did remember them saying that yeah, thanks for clarifying that Cody on penalty minutes 12 minutes for the Canucks 11 for the Kings hits Canucks out hit the Kings 33 26 block shots the Kings out did them 21 18 Giveaways, that's the one you want to be lower on like golf the Kings

Cody (52:51)
you

Yeah.

Gary (53:14)
15 connects 11 takeaways connects for and the Kings three three stars of the game Third star of the game Jacob DeBrusk with a goal Third star our second star of the game is Gavrkoff with with a goal and the first star of the game of course was Last year's Norris trophy winner Quinn Hughes with a goal and assist

So.

Cody (53:45)
It's crazy that he was actually the latest pick out of the three Hughes brothers.

Gary (53:51)
Yeah, he's the oldest brother too.

Cody (53:53)
Yeah.

Gary (53:55)
Typically it's funny. It's...

Either the oldest or the youngest are the best.

Cody (54:04)
Well, they're saying Luke is supposed to be the best out of the three.

Gary (54:07)
Well, but right now, who would you take? mean, it'd be tough. Jack's pretty good too, but you he had an injury prone season last year. Quinn was the Norris Trophy winner.

Cody (54:14)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Gary (54:24)
And he's got to battle Makar for that. Talk about a battle. Two guys I'd love to have on my team.

Cody (54:30)
Yeah, that's very true.

When was he draft? What year was he drafted? And it doesn't even say on here. Yeah, I think it was sixth overall, I want to say.

Gary (54:39)
Quinn Hughes.

I guess.

me a second.

Cody (54:48)
I want to what sticks overall.

Gary (54:53)
...fever?

Cody (54:55)
seventh overall.

He in the that was the what's his name?

Gary (55:04)
2018 draft, seventh overall.

Cody (55:08)
Yeah, that was the Dahlin Draft, I believe.

Gary (55:12)
Would you rather have Dahlin or Quinn? He is.

Cody (55:16)
Right now, Quinn.

Gary (55:17)
Well, absolutely. Dallin's a good player. Don't get me wrong. But Quinn is elite, Quinn is elite, I mean him.

Cody (55:20)
no, Dahlin. Yeah. No, no, no. I honestly, I would have at this point, I would rather I would have either one and I'd be happy.

Gary (55:31)
Yeah, absolutely. I agree with you on that one.

Cody (55:35)
So do you want to get our special guest on here?

Gary (55:39)
Sure.

Cody (55:41)
All right. Well, while he's doing that, I'll do my, my game predictions real quick while you're doing that.

Gary (55:49)
I'll do my hearing traditions afterwards I take it.

Cody (55:52)
And then we'll have our special guest on.

Gary (55:55)
Okay, so we're working on that. Go ahead.

Cody (55:58)
Alright, so for the first game, the Ducks will play against the Columbus Blue Jackets. That will be tomorrow because we are recording this on Saturday. So they played tomorrow, Sunday against the Blue Jackets and I have the Ducks losing this game 3-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. And then Tuesday 11-13, the Ducks against the

Golden Knights, have them losing this game 4-2-1. And then on Friday, the Ducks will be with the last game of the homestand against the Detroit Red Wings. And I have them also losing this game 3-1. So are we ready to have our special guest on? All right. So we're going to do probably a hockey podcast first, guys. All right. Since I already did my predictions, Dad, you can do yours.

Gary (56:44)
Yes.

Cody (56:55)
after we have a little fun here. We're going to do a hockey podcast first, everyone. We're going to have a mother son rant. Mom, take it away.

Gary (57:08)
Okay, for those that watched the Tuesday 5th game against the Canucks, I was so ticked off at that because they let two goals that shouldn't have happened right in front of the net where poor Dostal. couldn't even see because I think it was Miller and I don't remember who the other one was, parked, Pettersson, were parked right in front of the net.

Cody (57:27)
Pettersson.

Gary (57:32)
I mean, even the announcers were saying he can't stop what he can't see. But yet twice it happened and the Ducks could have been in the game had they stopped that. And then last night's game with the, I know that's part of your rant too, shoot the damn puck.

I that's why I kept yelling at the television, just shoot, shoot. It's a thing nobody was home.

Cody (57:56)
Listeners real quick. My mom hates when anyone cusses so for her to cuss it's a big thing and usually when we hear her cuss we all like flinch. It's scary. So I just let you guys know. Usually if I cuss I'm usually when I cuss I usually get a hand to the back of the head like hey watch your mouth.

Gary (58:11)
You know I'm mad.

You

But that was my big rant. I don't know what the problem is with either shooting or letting somebody camp out. And I've seen it in the other games too, where the defense is not helping the stall. It's a wonder he does as well as he does. Because sometimes I don't feel like the defense is helping him out as much as they should.

Cody (58:49)
And you have anything else? Keep going. I'm loving it.

Gary (58:52)
No, that was it for now. It's frustrating to see them knowing that there's so much talent there and not seeing them use it the way that they should be using it. They should be playing better. like parking in front of the net to me, that's like basic defense 101. Get, you know, protect your goalie and get the person out.

Cody (59:10)
lot better.

No, I 100 % agree. The only thing is like on those ones that the other team was on a power play. So that's usually one less guy they have right there.

Gary (59:31)
Not both of them though. I think one was, but the other one wasn't. And he was parked there for a long, I mean, it wasn't like he was just there.

Cody (59:35)
Yeah, no. That was the petterson. That was the petterson one for sure. The the the Miller one where he was he was like he kind of skated by. And did it. Petterson was just there, and I think that was the power play one. But here's the thing. If you know, that's what the other team is doing when the Ducks had their power play chances. There's no one in front of their goalie. No one.

Gary (1:00:02)
It's.

Cody (1:00:04)
Like I see like, there's finally a wide open shot, but it's like literally just a white, like the goal is like, I see everything. my, could easily block. I could block this with my eyes closed.

Gary (1:00:12)
Yeah, I could hardly see anybody parked in front of the goal like they were or like the other opposite teams are in for us. Even last night, it was the same thing. It was like they're going all around, but it's like, okay, who's going to do something in front of the net? Who's going to take the chance in putting it in?

Cody (1:00:34)
Yeah, like every time I saw the ducks get a good scoring chance on the power play and they had someone in front of the goalie, but as soon as the guy started shooting, they're like, I'm going to get out of the way and try to tip it. I'm like, no, stay in front of him, block his view and try to tip it that way. Like it makes, they're giving the goalies like, like I can block this blindfolded.

Gary (1:00:52)
Yeah.

Yeah, it was definitely very frustrating. I think that was the most frustrated I've been watching a game, especially last night. was just like I said, it's good thing nobody was home because I was yelling at the television set.

Cody (1:01:10)
If Christina wasn't watching her show on the TV, cause I was watching on my computer, I would have been screaming. almost wanted to punch my computer.

Gary (1:01:19)
you

Cody (1:01:20)
I was banging on the desk like shoot, shoot, shoot. No, no. Okay, shoot, shoot, no.

Gary (1:01:26)
Yeah, I agree. But that's the mom rant I had. You're welcome.

Cody (1:01:28)
Alright. Thank you. Everyone say hi to hi and welcome to my mom for and having our first mother son hockey podcast first mother son rant.

Gary (1:01:41)
I'm sure there'll be more. All right, let me give it back to your dad.

Cody (1:01:42)
I love it.

Okay.

Gary (1:01:48)
I'm

Cody (1:01:53)
I missed the other co-hosts.

Gary (1:01:55)
I miss her too.

Cody (1:01:58)
All right. You can go over your predictions and I'm going to finish my rant before we forget. No, there's more.

Gary (1:02:02)
you're not done?

Okay, I listened to a little bit of your mom. I couldn't hear you at all. So it'd be fun to listen to Monday morning. Let me just get to my predictions. So my predictions is today. The Kings on the ninth, Saturday the ninth, they'll be playing the Columbus Blue Jackets. I predict the Kings five, Blue Jackets two.

Cody (1:02:10)
there.

yeah.

Gary (1:02:37)
Then Monday we play at Calgary. I have the Kings winning the game four to three. Then Wednesday at Colorado I have Colorado beating the Kings for two. And then Saturday, I don't know why we put Saturdays on there. That should be next week.

I won't say that one. what I did want to go over is after the three episodes so far, do you know what your record is, Cody?

Cody (1:03:11)
Horrible. Like the ducks.

Gary (1:03:15)
Well, yeah, because I'm kicking your butt. I am seven and three. I've had two more games for some reason and you're three and five. That's not that bad.

Cody (1:03:26)
Because you guys have played two more games.

Gary (1:03:31)
okay. So I'm seven and three, you're three and five. So kick it up, kid, you know, I might have to kick you off, put your mom on the podcast.

Cody (1:03:37)
sounds about right.

If that involves us the playing better, I'll happily let my mom take over. I'll still do all the editing and posting that let her talk. Because God, I was scared when she was starting on her rant. Mom, mom, mom, cussed. Yeah, see on the air, she said the D word. was like, ooh, I was.

Gary (1:03:59)
Really?

Really? She cussed on the air? Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh.

Cody (1:04:12)
I interrupted, was like, hey guys, if my mom cusses, that's not a good thing. See? So.

Gary (1:04:17)
Wow. Okay. just so funny thing is, and I know she's going to listen to this because she just went shopping with somebody she left. So she's going to be in trouble when she gets back. go, you cussed on the podcast.

Cody (1:04:30)
Mm-hmm.

you

Yeah, I know.

Gary (1:04:42)
I just can't believe it. We have to pick players of the week, don't we?

Cody (1:04:48)
Do I have to? I have a player in mind, so I'll let you go first. I think I know who you're picking. I think I know who you're Laferriere

Gary (1:04:58)
My play... Okay, tell me who. Alex, the MVP, Leferriere. What a... I mean, he's played awesome. I hope it continues. I mean, I really do hope somebody... I think he, at one time, for the first 12 games, he had eight goals.

He was that pans out to be like 50 goals. It's probably not going to happen, people. He's he's not that exceptional. He's not McDavid or or Matthews, although wouldn't it be nice if he was? We finally got one guy like that. Who knows? Maybe.

Cody (1:05:26)
Wow, right now.

That would be really nice. And his name isn't Kempe.

Gary (1:05:42)
Well, 50 goals would be beyond campaign.

Cody (1:05:45)
I bet you if Kempe played the Ducks at 82 games ever, ever, just play the Ducks, he would have the most goals. He would be, I'll beat Gretzky like within three years.

Gary (1:06:00)
He does he has a ducks number for some reason.

Cody (1:06:00)
Because every time he plays the ducks, he scores. Yeah, it's honestly, I thought it was just a Gibby thing. Because since the AHL, Kempe's just had Gibson's number. And then to the NHL, same thing, Kempe's had Gibson's number. But Gibson didn't play the last game, and Kempe still scored. So I'm like, OK, maybe it's just Kempe and ducks kind of thing.

Gary (1:06:30)
You know what? Breaking up Kempe, one thing that really shocked me is how much of a better overall hockey player he became to be and how patient's waiting for these kids to mature is important. Because a lot of times they give up on them and they end up being a star for another team. Or

Cody (1:06:54)
Yeah.

Gary (1:06:57)
because they give up on them,

They lose face in themselves and never become what they could become. And I can say Adrian Kempe is definitely an example of patience by the Kings. And I give their management all kudos for the patience they gave Adrian. So anyways, who you going to pick a player of the week?

Cody (1:07:20)
Okay, my player of the week He's not someone you expect to see on the scorecard every game Or really much ever but I've noticed his play has been really well and honestly I think he's been one of probably the one of the most consistent players for the Ducks All season like I think he's had maybe you know a couple bad shifts, but every time I see him I just I notice him whenever he's on the ice

And it's not someone who I expected and it's someone that I think we missed last season. It's Brock McGinn. I feel like he has played well.

Gary (1:07:59)
He's played well. You know, I hear his name as much as I hear it. Well, yeah, but as much as any of Troy Terry or Leo Carlsson, he's actually out playing Trevor Zegras.

Cody (1:08:05)
in good ways.

Yeah, I'm like, in, I said, he's not someone you expect to see on the stats or, you know, scoring goals or getting assist, but like he's doing the good, like he's making good defensive plays. He's making, he's getting hits. He's making like the extra effort. Like he's like the main four checker. Like he's doing stuff that's making, given the ducks, even like second or third chances.

And like, it's something like, and this is just all off the eye test is what I call it. You know, just me watching the game and just observing. I'm like, he looked like I'm, I'm like every time I'm like, damn, I that's Brock begin again. You know, like it's just someone like, you know, like I said, I think he did score a goal. I think he may have had an assist this week. I don't know, but I can just tell you like, I love his play. He's always out there hustling. He's giving it 110 every single shift.

And I appreciate that. And I've noticed it. And I've noticed it all season. But, you know, like those like the other three player of the weeks we've had. I mean, it's kind of hard to go against Dostal what he's been doing all year. And then Troy Terry, like what he did that week, but like Brock McGinn was always like right there, though. He was always like one of my choices. You know, but but like Dostal, I mean, he hasn't had his best week, but it's I don't

Gary (1:09:43)
That's awesome.

Cody (1:09:49)
I'm not blaming him for any of that. Yeah.

Gary (1:09:51)
He's pummeled. Their shots are coming from everywhere. Eventually they're going to go in the net. It's just a law of numbers.

Cody (1:09:58)
No, yeah, I guess I'm not. I'm not. I guess I'm not blaming Dostal for this bad week. It's not it's not him, but. No, no, we play tomorrow. You guys play tonight.

Gary (1:10:07)
Are they playing tonight?

I know that. I think Gibson will probably start tomorrow. Yeah, so. Well, before we end with Player of the Week, I need to do my jester and you need to do your lame duck. Do you want me to go first?

Cody (1:10:16)
That's what I'm thinking too. Give give Dostal a break.

Okay, you go for it.

Gary (1:10:31)
for the second week in a row, the Jester champion of the Kings, Newell Brown. Power play just isn't doing enough.

Cody (1:10:44)
You're going with a coach? I'm going with a different coach this week.

Gary (1:10:48)
Okay.

Cody (1:10:49)
Yeah, and I'm gonna lead this into the last part of my rant.

Gary (1:10:54)
yeah, you got more rant, don't you?

Cody (1:10:55)
Yes. So my lame duck of the week is Greg Cronin. What are we doing? The power play isn't working. The penalty kill isn't working. Our five on five is just getting like, I would say it's okay, but we got to put the puck in the net. Why is Ross Johnston out here playing? Why isn't if we need scoring, why is Johnston out here? He's just a traffic cone.

I'd see Brett Leason out there, because at least I know he has a better scoring chance than... Johnson does. Yeah, Johnson... He has looked better, but Leason would be ten times better in those positions. This last... what?

Gary (1:11:38)
Wow.

I hit a traffic cone last week. It might have been Johnston. I'm not sure. Maybe that's why he's not playing well.

Cody (1:11:46)
I don't know. That's a pretty, I don't know. Did you lose a fender or something? Cause that's a pretty big traffic cone.

Gary (1:11:53)
Well, I just I just kind of nipped it a little bit and then went bouncing around the

Cody (1:12:00)
And also I would say my other if I had to choose a player For my lame duck. It's Radko Gudas. He has just been bad and Last night it did not look good at the end of the game where the game was over. It was done We got outplayed, of course, and then Radko wants to start a fight out of nowhere Like that just looks bad And he's just he's he hasn't looked like the same radical good as we had last year

And I'm sorry, why did you shave your beard? my, did you notice that he cut rid of the beard?

Gary (1:12:34)
You know, Cody, I haven't been able to watch the ducks because every time they're playing, I'm working. So I will, I will listen to them on the radio.

Cody (1:12:43)
Yeah, I'll send if I remember I'll try to send you a picture what he has like a mustang handlebar kind of thing

Gary (1:12:51)
I can't even imagine him without his beard on.

Cody (1:12:53)
I know. But like I said, the ducks have been outscored in this home stand, I believe was it 12 to three. They scored one last night.

No, I'll to double check. Let's see, I have it right here. Four, two, five, one. That's what? That's nine and they lost again, what? Five, two, so that's 14, 14 to five. They got outscored in the homestand. 14 to five. That's not good. Let's see, let me pull up my notes. Bass off percentage, dead last.

Gary (1:13:27)
Hmm. That's bad.

you

Cody (1:13:37)
at 42.7%. Goals for 30, their last with 27 goals per game last with 2.08 power, power play percentage, 28th at 13%. The PK 28th at 72.2 shots against per game.

They're dead last with 30. They're giving up almost 35 shots per game. Shot attempt differential minus 158. They're getting out shot. So far this season by 158 chances. Their shooting percentage is 30th at 7.5. And I hate to say it, but this doesn't be a

are royally coaxed first for me? I think what...

What Frank Cerebelli said might be true.

Gary (1:14:43)
God!

Cody (1:14:44)
I know I'm at the wash my mouth out with soap after this and I take a shower after saying this, but he said on the on his latest podcast on the daily face off that there's a real chance that Greg Cronin could be the first coach fired this season.

Gary (1:15:01)
Maybe they're gonna do a recount and Kamala actually won.

Cody (1:15:02)
Ahem.

God, please don't put that juju on this podcast. Don't know.

Gary (1:15:08)
Well, Frank Cirovelli is gonna be right.

Cody (1:15:12)
I'm saying this is the, I know when I saw this, I was like, I was like, wow. That's true. Then I saw the writer. I'm like, crap. Like he could be true. Damn it. there's a second word.

Gary (1:15:14)
The world's upside down, guys.

You just gave momma an out now, thanks.

Cody (1:15:34)
that's fine. She's used to me cussing. Me and Tim are bad. But anyways, but like, something has to change for the ducks. We can't be getting out shot. We're out losing face-offs. This horrible, the power play is horrible. Like all they do is pass to the wing, pass back to the point, pass back to the other wing pass. And the other team's like, Hey, we'll just let them honestly, if I was the other team, we're like, Hey, I'll just.

stay in here and make sure they don't get a cross eyes pass and nothing to worry about after this. then no one's even blocking the view of the goalie. Every time they get a shot on goal, there's no one in front of them. I've seen it many times where Mason McTavish was right there. And then as soon as the shot is going, he moves out of the way and then the goalie is like, I can see everything. Boom, save. You know what happened on the Olen Zellweger goal?

Gary (1:16:07)
Stay in front of everybody.

Cody (1:16:34)
The other night against Vancouver.

Gary (1:16:37)
I don't know what happened.

Cody (1:16:39)
So on the power play, it was a power play goal. He shot from the point. You want to know how, it went in? Cause someone was blocking the view of the goalie.

Gary (1:16:51)
Yeah, well, you need a you need an in front of the net presence if you want to score.

Cody (1:16:52)
But after that, nothing else.

Yes, there's nothing. And with the Ducks power play, it's like everyone's just literally standing there. This is I want you to do, Dad. I want you to go on Victory Plus, go to the third period and watch when the Ducks get their four minute power play. They're just standing around. They're not moving. You see other teams, they're like zigzagging, they're moving.

And then you see that's the one that the penalty kill gets. They get tired. They get moving and then you get that's when you get open chances or open cross pice passes. But no, they're actually just pass, pass, pass. There's no standing. There's no moving. They're literally just.

Gary (1:17:39)
I I Get it Cody cuz you know the Kings the Kings do that when they're not power plays not working You know, they're passing too much And they're not There's no no in front of the net presence, I mean when I see that I definitely miss brownie Dustin Brown one thing he would excel that was that pest in front of the net

Cody (1:18:02)
Yeah.

Or if he was a pest in the net too.

Gary (1:18:10)
You you think about it, Corey Perry. Talk about a pest. You you miss that kind of a player. So.

Cody (1:18:23)
Yeah. Also, and also the ducks are fifth to last in points percentage with a 0.38. The only teams behind them are the Canadians, the sharks, the predators and the black hawks. And I would say the sharks, they were without what's celebratory for most of the season. So that's like one thing Canadians they're out with. They've had a lot of injuries to

The Blackhawks, I mean, they should be a little, maybe I think a little bit better predators should not be this low.

Gary (1:19:01)
Yeah, no they shouldn't. That's a shock and they played very very poorly.

Cody (1:19:02)
They're four. Yeah.

Yeah, but I don't think that's going to be sustainable for them being that bad. But I'm just saying.

Gary (1:19:14)
Well, I missed, I missed your earlier rant, so I can't wait to listen to the podcast on Monday and hear you and your mom together.

Cody (1:19:21)
Look, I just can't believe it's getting so bad that I'm actually almost agreeing with Servalli It's that bad.

Gary (1:19:32)
So tomorrow when you come over, I will slap you and wake you up. Don't start believing in him. I mean, Elliot's a much better, you know?

Cody (1:19:36)
Please.

I know. Trust me, I didn't want to.

hands down. There's well there's other people I'd rather. Elliot Friedman is of course is like the top dog and everything. So I don't know if I forgot to tell you I'll tell you this on the podcast. So when me and my father-in-law Tony we were watching the Dodger game and they were talking about Fernando Valenzuela and it turns out Tony played a round of golf with Fernando Valenzuela back in the day.

Gary (1:20:13)
No kidding.

Cody (1:20:15)
He also played with two other famous people. So I guess Tony on his day off went to play some golf and he was he was just a single like golfer and the clubhouse was like, there's a threesome over there if you want to join them. So he went in over there. He's like, all right, whatever. He played one of those. Yep. And you want to who the other two people were? Bob Miller.

Gary (1:20:33)
Of course, that sounds just like Tony. Who's that?

Cody (1:20:43)
and Barry Melrose.

Gary (1:20:46)
you're talking a long time ago. God.

Cody (1:20:48)
Yeah, this is before I think this is before me and before I was even born.

Gary (1:20:54)
Wow, that's awesome.

Cody (1:20:56)
Yeah, because he was like, the guy was like, Yeah, I think he was the announcer for the Kings. And then I think the other guy was like the coach for the Kings. And I was like, Wait, was are you talking about Bob Miller and Barry Melrose? He's like, that sounds familiar. And I showed him a picture. He's like, Yep, that was them. I was like,

Gary (1:21:11)
my god.

Cody (1:21:14)
What?

Gary (1:21:16)
You know, you have nothing but humor at your house. It's just like, I would have been like, awestruck and told you, some hockey guy, a coach.

Cody (1:21:33)
I was just like, like Bob Miller's like probably the most famous commentator for the Kings, like he did it for 40 years or so. Yeah. Yeah.

Gary (1:21:43)
Well, him and Nick Nixon have about the same tenure. I mean, because Nick came in a few years after Bob, but I mean, both Hall of Fame announcers. So. That's OK when I had Dean Norris in the back of my car, I asked him what he did. You know, I'm an actor for 27 years ago. Yeah, we're in. He goes breaking bad and I go break. well, because I hadn't watched the show and I and when I turn.

Cody (1:21:54)
Barry Melrose, though.

Mm-hmm.

I told you about it too before that.

Gary (1:22:14)
Yeah, I know, I know. He was such a nice guy. my God. You know, how embarrassing. You don't know a celebrity.

Cody (1:22:17)
That's what I've heard. It's funny because he, he's one of our cousins.

Well, it's funny because we I think a couple weeks ago I actually took deliver propane to his house. He wasn't there, of course, but nothing was funnier when I was umpiring the for a certain famous baseball coach and he was more probably more famous as a coach than a player and That was the where I was behind the plate the catcher set up a foot outside. I called the ball the fans

All they saw was the catcher not move his glove and they started complaining and then the coach Stood up and yelled to his fans. Shut that F up That was a good call blue. Good job and I didn't eject the coach because of who he is My partner did not know who he was and he's like, how come you didn't eject him? I was like, you know who that is, right? He's like no, I'm like

That's Dusty Baker, dude. He's like, that's Dusty Baker. I'm like, yeah, I'm like, Yeah, and I was like, I'm like, remember the kid, did you watch the World Series when the Angels and Giants played and that little little bat boy came out a little too soon and G.T. snow grabbed him and he's like, yeah, I'm like, well, he's pitching right now. And he's like, my God. I was like, yeah.

Gary (1:23:29)
Yeah, you know, I had an experience with Dusty.

Yeah, I actually had him too. And the funny thing was, know I wasn't, I'm sure I know I wasn't working with you. I don't mean, not sure if you were working yet and a similar thing happened where, but it was a strike call. He was on the outside corner of picture through it right on the inside court. was right on the inside corner, but

It did look bad if in the third base coach was going off on me and Dusty would sit on the bucket right inside the dugout, right? And he stood up and he goes, shut up. He's calling a great game. And I'm sitting there going, God, you know, and him being not just a great player, but a great coach and

going out and helping young kids play and yet having the class to understand, know, even if we are wrong, we're not always wrong and having the respect for officials.

It's funny because I had to tell my partner the same thing remember the World Series when that That was that was his his son Yeah, it was are we almost ready to go we know

Cody (1:25:13)
Yeah, that was crazy.

Yeah, you want to hear an interesting fact about Dusty Baker?

Gary (1:25:28)
Sure.

Cody (1:25:29)
You know, he was probably one of the first people or, or it's, is what it's rumored to be that him and this guy named Glenn Burke invented the high five.

Gary (1:25:45)
I think you may have heard that before, but it seems faint in my memory. But what I wanted to do too is I want to be in a king's sand. I want to say something about the Anaheim ducks. The other night you had a good friend of ours on it between periods named Eric Reese. OK, and if a lot of people don't know about.

Cody (1:25:47)
Yeah, that's just crazy.

yeah.

Gary (1:26:13)
what's called Negu who was created by his daughter Jessie it's never ever give up she had brain cancer and you know I I consider myself a faithful man but this 12 year old kid

She wanted to, she saw what was going on and she was going through it. That a lot of these kids didn't have anything. So she told her dad, she goes, dad, I want to bring joy to these kids.

she created Joy Jars. And they got people to donate stuff. It's become huge. they go and they give kids Joy Jars when they're at their worst part of their lives. And Kobe Bryant was a big spokesperson for it before he passed away with the Los Angeles Lakers.

and the ducks have been there for Negu and they had Eric on the other night. Your mom actually texted me. You see the guy in the middle and it was...

Who's the bald goalie? I can't think of his name off of head. Gia Bear and the girl and there was Eric's talking about Negu right in front of them on TV. And I just want to have a shout out to Eric and Negu. Anybody you know if you can help support them. Royally Quacked would. Commend you. And Eric ended up losing her his daughter.

Cody (1:27:29)
Gee.

Gary (1:27:54)
eventually to cancer. It was one of the saddest memorials I ever went to, to lose a child. I've been blessed not to lose any of my children yet. And I hope I don't, I go before they do, because to me, that's the worst thing in the world that could ever happen. But they turned that in, God turned that into a very good thing for people. And I just want to have a shout out to Negu and Eric Reese from Royally Quack.

Cody (1:28:01)
Yeah.

Yeah.
