Gary (00:29)
Welcome back, Royally Quacked fans to episode 36. It's a beautiful day here in Southern California, and we're so happy and very happy to be able to do this podcast and interact with you fans. How's it going, Cody?

Cody (00:55)
Doing good, Dad. It's the John Gibson episode.

Gary (00:59)
This is the John Gibson episode?

Cody (01:02)
Yeah, 36, John Gibson.

Gary (01:08)
Okay, we're going to do that now. Live from Anze Kaputar Studios, it's royally quacked.

Cody (01:10)
No, I'm just kidding.

All right. I got the trivia question now.

Gary (01:26)
Okay.

Cody (01:29)
What are the eight teams that have never had a first overall pick?

Gary (01:38)
overall pick. That's not something I have totally paid attention to so I'm gonna struggle with this one but I'm gonna start off with the Anaheim Ducks.

Cody (01:50)
Yep, that is one, sadly. We should have had two, but that's okay.

Gary (01:55)
LA Kings.

Cody (01:57)
No, they've had a first overall pick.

Gary (01:58)
Was that Jimmy Carson?

Cody (02:01)
I don't know at the top of my- I only have the eight that haven't had at one.

Gary (02:04)
Okay.

They haven't had many.

Cody (02:09)
You have had more than the ducks have.

Gary (02:13)
Vancouver Canucks.

Cody (02:15)
Vancouver Canucks.

Gary (02:17)
So I got two.

Cody (02:21)
There should be two easy ones on here.

Gary (02:24)
Seattle Kraken.

Cody (02:25)
Seattle Kraken.

Gary (02:28)
Vegas Golden Knights.

Cody (02:29)
in Vegas Golden Knights.

Gary (02:31)
oooo

Cody (02:34)
So you got four left.

Gary (02:39)
Okay, let me think.

wow. Washington Capitals.

Cody (02:47)
So Alex Ovechkin doesn't count as a first overall pick? he was.

Gary (02:50)
Well, I thought he wasn't the first pick.

Okay.

It's getting harder. I know Pittsburgh has, I know.

Cody (03:03)
There's three West Coast teams and one East Coast.

Gary (03:10)
Dallas Stars?

Cody (03:12)
They've had one.

Gary (03:15)
Was that in Minnesota? Was that in McDonald? You don't know.

Cody (03:18)
I don't know the top of my head.

Gary (03:22)
Nashville.

Cody (03:25)
Nashville yep number five you still got three more

Gary (03:31)
and tour in the West.

Cody (03:33)
who are in the West.

Gary (03:38)
here. Calgary flames?

Cody (03:42)
Calgary Flames? Two more. I'll give you a hint, you already said one of the team names technically, or the city.

Gary (03:51)
I did.

Cody (03:52)
Mm-hmm.

Gary (03:54)
You

Cody (03:55)
When you said Dallas, you said their name.

Where did Dallas come from?

Gary (04:01)
Minnesota.

Cody (04:02)
Minnesota wild. Yep.

Gary (04:05)
And then one in the east.

Cody (04:08)
It's sad that seven of the eight teams are in the West. Seven of the eight teams. Think about it. It's biased.

Gary (04:12)
Really? Boy, that tells you how East Coast hockey is biased in every sport.

Cody (04:23)
I don't know about every sport.

Gary (04:24)
What you do in college football? It's hard for a West Coast guy to get noticed because the East Coast is always asleep when they're playing.

Cody (04:34)
Yeah.

Gary (04:36)
Same with the NBA hockey. So East Coast, East Coast, let me think.

Columbus Blue Jackets.

Cody (04:44)
No, they've I believe theirs was like Rick Nash wasn't that wasn't it didn't or something like that.

Gary (04:50)
It might be. You know what? The draft isn't my strong point.

Cody (04:58)
I could tell.

Gary (05:00)
Thanks.

Cody (05:03)
I'll give...

Gary (05:03)
You guys can't see what I'm doing to Cody right now, but.

Cody (05:06)
He's telling me to read between the lines and he has three fingers up.

Gary (05:08)
There you go.

blank on the teams now for some reason.

Cody (05:17)
Alright, they're in the Metro.

That should help.

And they've been a very good team lately.

Gary (05:24)
Yeah, sure.

Cody (05:31)
They just extended their head coach.

Gary (05:34)
Carolina?

Cody (05:35)
Who helped Carolina?

Gary (05:38)
That helped. That was a tough question.

Cody (05:39)
Yeah.

You're welcome.

Gary (05:44)
It has so much to it.

Cody (05:46)
Mm-hmm.

Alright, ready again to team news? Alright, well I'll start off real quick with the Ducks news. Just a couple draft picks from this last season. I want to go over on how they've been this season. Your number three overall pick Beckett Sennecke through 11 games has 16 points. He has 10 goals and six assists with a plus six.

Gary (05:54)
Sure.

Cody (06:19)
rating and I believe he even had a hat trick in one of his games lately. So congrats to Beckett right there. He's looking pretty good coming off of that broken foot and everything. Next up, Tarin Smith, who was our third, I won't say he was one of our third round picks. He's a defenseman with Everett Silvertips in 14 games. has 18 points, three goals.

and 15 assist with a plus 16 rating. currently leads all WHL blue liners in points.

Gary (06:53)
Why?

Dang, that's impressive.

Cody (06:59)
Yeah, I think he was, yeah, I want to say a third round pick. So that was a great pickup so far. And then last bit of news is Tristan Luneau gets sent down to the goals. I don't think this is really a demotion. I just think they want him to start playing more, get him more playing time and everything. And I think this is the right move for Tristan right now. He was good in the NHL, but

He needs more playing time and he's in a definitely good than San Diego where he can be on the top pair right there. He could be a powerplay quarterback. So I think this is the right move for Luneau right now. So I'm not mad about it. I hope he's not mad about it because he gets to play. So I think this is the best move for him right now.

Gary (07:55)
Sometimes repetition is what's needed to hone your game. In the NHL, they're so talented.

I mean, if you ever watch them just practice and some of the things they do, I mean, it blows me away. I mean, it was like when Tiger Woods used to use, he would talk to you and bounce a golf ball off a golf club and not even look at it. know, but guys in hockey, can do that stuff. I mean.

Cody (08:22)
yeah, yeah he's, he's something.

Gary (08:33)
I think that should be something in the All-Star game is trick moves. Because some of them, I mean, you've seen some of them like with a Michigan or on a penalty, not a penalty, but a shootout. You know, they do some stuff that's just, you know, between their legs, through their legs with the stick. I don't even know how they can get the shot off and then right up in the corner of the net and they score. So I think that should be a...

Cody (08:39)
I like that.

new.

Gary (09:03)
Getting off subject here, aren't I?

Cody (09:05)
way off subject, but. All right. and that's it for the Ducks News this week.

Gary (09:12)
Well, the King's News is so long, we'll be here for two days. Just kidding.

Cody (09:17)
I was I'm off. Bye.

Gary (09:21)
Fiala suspended versus the Sharks and You know, that's all you got to start with but what it came down to is I guess in the Utah game He did two stupid penalties towards the end of the game or in this in the second period and did not play in the third period and people thought they were penalizing him further, but what had happened is his iPhone was broken he tried to do his

alarm on his iPad, which I don't have an iPad, but I didn't know it had an alarm on it, but I'm assuming of a phone can, so can an iPad. And it didn't wake him up for a mandatory team meeting.

And honestly, he digressed this year a bit. I think setting him down might be the best thing that could be for him. In fact, it was. As we've seen, he played much better the next night. I'm not going to tell you all that right now because I'll tell you in a little bit. Also, Akil Thomas finally gets to play.

And what does do? He scores a goal. Of course, it was in a loss, but he got to score a goal. And last but not least, Anze Kupitar gets his 800th assist.

quick trivia because this would have been the trivia I would have given to you. There are four players currently playing in the NHL that have 800 assists. Could you name them?

Cody (11:05)
How many?

Gary (11:07)
including Kopitar. So you got one.

Cody (11:12)
I'm going to say Crosby.

Gary (11:17)
Very good. I think he's number one. He has the most assists.

Cody (11:22)
Yeah, I think Ovechkin just got 700, right?

Gary (11:26)
No, that's not a veg. Well, 700 is an 800.

Cody (11:29)
No? Okay.

I know but I could remember if it was 700 or 800 that he just got. So it must be 700.

Gary (11:40)
He has 1500 points.

Cody (11:43)
Well, he has, you know, I think so. let's see who else Malkin.

Gary (11:47)
Okay.

Malkin? Yep.

Cody (11:59)
and Patrick Kane.

Gary (12:01)
Very good. Cody passes the trivia test. It shouldn't have been that hard. I mean, if you really think about it, you know it had to be guys had been playing a long time. And there's very few of those who are that talented still playing.

Cody (12:08)
No. I was like, I'm just trying to figure out-

Yeah.

Gary (12:19)
So, and that's Kings News for the week.

Cody (12:23)
I hope Fialla picks it up because he's on my fantasy team. As long as he doesn't do good against the ducks.

Gary (12:29)
And I understand that I had Zegras, I dumped him. He just doesn't seem to have it going yet. And I don't know why. I don't why actually made a real stupid move. I got pissed in the first week. Byfield, I dropped Byfield because I drafted Byfield. Then I dropped Clarke. I wish I had kept Clarke.

Cody (12:29)
That's all I ask.

Clarke's available?

Gary (12:53)
No, our buddy from Arizona picked him up.

Cody (12:58)
Mmm.

Gary (13:00)
Read between the lines, Eric.

So you're welcome by the way Let's go to league news, so I'll start I'll start off league news

Cody (13:06)
Jesus.

All right. I was going to say I'll let you start off with this one.

Gary (13:18)
Guess what? The NHL draft is coming to LA! Now, it's not going to be the extravaganza that we had at the... What was it called? What's that in Vegas?

Cody (13:35)
draft.

Gary (13:37)
Yeah, that place they had it at. Sphere. There are going to be some players, you know, getting their jerseys and so forth, but it's not going to have all the teams in LA. They're going to be at, if you remember the NFL draft during COVID, where you could see, I mean, all of them have offices in their houses and damn.

Cody (13:38)
the sphere.

It's going to be decentralized.

Yeah

Gary (14:06)
Some of those offices were nice. That's what you're going to see during the draft. and it has the last time it was in LA is 2011. So, but I'm sure it's going to be incredible anyways, because we're going to have a whole new array of talent coming into the NHL.

So right now.

Cody (14:32)
Yeah, it'd be really cool to see how everything is.

Gary (14:37)
And right now we still have our first round pick. Okay, you want to do the next one, Cody?

Cody (14:40)
For now.

Yeah, the Maple Leafs trade Timothy Liljegren to the Sharks for Matt Benning and picks. And I could tell you the picks because I have it right here. The picks is a conditional 2025 third round pick. The condition is Toronto gets the higher pick between Edmonton or Colorado's pick. So pretty much the Sharks have both.

Edmonton and Colorado's third round pick this year. So whichever one is higher, Toronto gets that pick and then a 2026 sixth round pitch.

Gary (15:27)
And that's a trade from strength. He wasn't. He wasn't.

Cody (15:27)
So.

No, I think that's a trade to get rid of some salary too.

Gary (15:36)
Well, yeah, but he wasn't playing as much and. They got they got the future for him, so I think it was a good trade overall and honestly. The sharks need another defenseman. So.

Cody (15:38)
Yeah.

They need a lot of things too.

Gary (16:00)
Pacific division fans, you pay attention to this one. Edmonton Oilers star, Connor McDavid will miss two to three weeks with an ankle ankle injury. And my understanding is he did not stay with the team on their trip. And he went back to Edmonton to have the doctors look at him. And I mean, according to Elliotte Friedman from 32 Thoughts,

There's two reasons why. One is they're being cautious, obviously with the greatest hockey player playing currently. Or two, it's more serious than we think. So it's one of those two things. And I'll be honest with you, I don't want him to be hurt. I mean, if you've not ever seen him play live, my God.

Cody (16:52)
No.

Gary (16:59)
I mean, I used to think I was a pretty good athlete. I realize now, wow, how, I mean, how incredible these pros are.

Cody (17:07)
I'm a traffic cone compared to Connor McDavid.

Gary (17:14)
I'm a two ton piece of smashed up car that can't move compared to him.

Cody (17:23)
He is something Yeah, he's definitely the best player and when with him being out it's just it's it makes it doesn't make the NHL as entertaining

Gary (17:24)
Yes.

You know, it's funny to throw that, this isn't really just to be on top of that news we just gave you. When we were drafting in the hockey, I got the first pick ever. First time ever I've had the first pick. And I go, who am I going to take? mean, obviously, McJesus is an easy, I go, no, I'm going to go with Nate MacKinnon. I go, lately, McDavid's been breaking down physically.

last few years and I go, you know, and I thought about Draisaitl too because when he's on, my gosh, I mean he would be my one year. You had the first pick, you took McDavid, I think. And I took Draisaitl and I go, thank you. And he goes, for what? I go, that's who I want. I would have picked him one. And he had, that was a year he was like the Hart trophy winner.

Cody (18:21)
Yeah.

Connor Mcdavid's not even in top 10 right now in Fantasy Points.

Gary (18:36)
So.

think Draisaitl will lose either.

Cody (18:43)
No. You want to who's won?

Gary (18:49)
Precept.

Cody (18:50)
Nope. Kaprizov is not... I don't see him on here. Nope.

Gary (18:56)
Probably got 20 points from what somebody said.

Cody (18:59)
20 points? I'm talking about like total for the season.

Gary (19:03)
Yeah, are we talking? Yeah, I just looked it up. Kaprizov has 21 points. He's leading the NHL.

Cody (19:10)
No, I'm talking about in fantasy point. Sorry. We were talking about fantasy. So, okay. Who's leading?

Gary (19:13)
Okay, well...

Macar?

Cody (19:24)
Makar, he's number one. And number two is Hesher.

Gary (19:30)
I had Heesher last year. He didn't have that grade a year. He was okay.

Cody (19:36)
Yeah, you got two people there in the top four.

Gary (19:40)
I do?

Cody (19:41)
MacKinnon and Crosby.

Do I have anyone in the top? Nope, okay, let's move on. Before we get...

Gary (19:49)
This isn't, this isn't, this is Royally Quacked, not ESPN fantasy hockey podcast. Although we could, we will talk about it here and there. We're just really early in the season with a lot of new players. And you know, at least we have people that totally care for the first time, I think. Cause a lot of, a lot of them, they would never change their team and they just get waxed.

Cody (20:00)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Gary (20:19)
I mean, it's one thing to get waxed just because you didn't draft well. I mean, because that can happen.

Cody (20:25)
course then again I still remember when we needed an extra team this was years ago and I just made one for Christina and I remember I was drafting one team off my laptop and I think another team off my cell phone and we were still and we were playing cards against humanity with a bunch of friends I was doing like three things at once and I never touched her team and her team came in fourth place that year

I just said it once and then I just told him, don't, I might just keep the app on your phone. That's all I ask.

Gary (21:04)
Well, that's when we had Adam and his dad and we had a pretty pretty for three or four years. Everybody stayed. So.

Cody (21:07)
Yeah.

Yeah. All right. Let's move. should probably move on to the next bit of news. The Detroit Red Wings have traded veteran defenseman Olli Maatta to the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday night as the NHL's newest team tries to overcome significant injuries to its blue line.

Gary (21:17)
Sure.

Yeah, Durzi. I can't think of the... Marino. I knew it started with an I just, I couldn't remember his name. Yeah, I had Durzi. He's on the injured reserve. I don't even know if he'll play this season. He had reconstructive surgery on his shoulder. That's sad because he was incredible last year for them. And he started off pretty good this year.

Cody (21:35)
Marino.

Yeah.

That's sad.

Gary (21:59)
All right, we'll move on. Flyers, Matt, Matt, Matvey Michkov named NHL rookie of the month. He's the guy who dropped the seventh because he was Russian. was it last year?

Cody (22:17)
Yes, it was the Bedard draft.

Gary (22:21)
Yeah, we're playing the Bedards today. You're playing them tomorrow. But Michkov dropped to the seventh pick. Philly took him and he's already in the end. Everybody was afraid he would never be able to get out of his contract. From my understand, he had to buy himself out.

Cody (22:25)
Mm-hmm.

I have...

Yeah, he has to buy him something with his own, the flyers cannot help him. He had to buy his own contract.

Gary (22:43)
Right.

Yes.

Cody (22:48)
So yeah. Islanders Matthew Barzal is out with an upper body injury. God. I love Barzal, but this couldn't have happened before the ducks played the Islanders because God, would every time he had the puck, he looked dangerous against the ducks, which I'll go over that later. But but he's so he's he's someone that's really fun to watch,

Gary (23:11)
Yes, very.

And he plays 200 foot hockey, every team only has a maybe a one, two guys that really do that well. I'm talking mostly the forwards. I mean, as a defenseman, that's what they're there for is to play defense. then Dakota Joshua hopes to be back in the Canucks lineup after cancer surgery. And boy.

Cody (23:27)
Yeah.

Gary (23:45)
I they miss him. I mean, he's not one of the superstars on the team, but he's one of those guys that when he's there, he makes everybody else a little bit better. I hope that all the people who are injured get healthy quick, come back and play. I much rather win with playing full strength teams than to

Cody (23:47)
yeah.

That's for sure.

Gary (24:14)
play with depleted teams. So now are we on to last week's games?

Cody (24:17)
Yeah.

Last week's You want me to go first or you want to go first?

Gary (24:30)
You have four.

Cody (24:33)
You have 3

Gary (24:34)
I have three, what? Well, why don't we do it this way? Why don't we go, you do your first game, I'll do my first game. We'll go back and forth. So, you know, it's not like, hey, we can tune them out now because it's 10 minutes of duck news. I only want to hear about the Kings or vice versa.

Cody (24:54)
Okay. All right. First game, Ducks started their New York or East Coast New York road trip. It was actually earlier this year than normal. Normally it's around December, but they started the first one in New York against the New York Rangers. They lost this game two to one, but I can tell you this.

This was probably the best game the Ducks have played overall. It was just great back and forth. They actually outshot the New York Rangers, which is, you know, I think they, don't think they really out shotted like a team like this at all this year. So they lost this one two to one. You had a goal from Ryan Lindgren to take the lead for the, for the Rangers to make it one nothing. And then Will Cuylle

I think that's how you say his name. He actually scored a goal before this, but it got called back because it was, he was offside or a player was offside before the goal. And then probably, I think it was like five, 10 minutes later, he scored, he scored in this one definitely counted. But I think that, I think that goal shouldn't, was it someone that yeah, this is the one that shouldn't have counted too, because in my aspect, he kicked it. It looked like a deflection, but you could tell like he kinda

made a forward kicking motion to kick it in. So they, well they did review it and everything, but they did say it was not a kicking motion, even though it really did look like a kicking motion. But, Olen Zellweger scores his first of the year with assists from Leo Carlsson and Troy Terry. And that was their final in the scoring with a two, one final. Like I said,

That's why I think this was probably one of the best games the Ducks have played. They outshot the New York Rangers 33 to 32. And then in the faceoff circle, each team had 50%. I think that was the first time the Ducks have actually, I think actually at least just didn't lose finally in the faceoff department. Power plays, each team had one power play.

And neither team scored, which good because New York also has a really deadly power play unit. I mean, you got Panarin, Trocheck. You know, it's there. They're scary altogether. The Ducks had 19 hits. The Rangers had 26. The block shots. Ducks had 18. The one thing is the Ducks got to get better at is they had 16 giveaways.

We can't be giving away that many. That's not good. So that is it for this first game in New York. Like I said, I think this is all around the best game the Ducks have played this season.

Gary (28:03)
So, do you realize that that was, that game that you just talked about was predicted in episode 34?

Cody (28:12)
Mm-hmm.

Gary (28:13)
Okay, do you want to know what your record was for episode 34 on your predictions? Or do you know?

Cody (28:22)
I'm gonna say

I know I predicted the ducks to lose this game.

I say, what was my record?

Gary (28:35)
two in one.

Cody (28:37)
Okay.

Gary (28:39)
You predicted them to beat the Kings, which they lost. So that was your loss. You predicted them to beat...

Cody (28:44)
Yeah.

San Jose.

Gary (28:50)
San Jose and you predicted four one they won three one and then you predicted New York to win four two and they won two to one so you were two and one for episode 34 Okay All right. Now the game I'm gonna be talking about was against Utah last Saturday Was it last Saturday? Yeah

Cody (29:00)
Not bad. I'll take it.

Yeah, right before it was like as we were recording, I believe

Gary (29:15)
True, which will be my last game of my predictions. And in this game, we had a, it was an interesting game. Again, the Kings seem to have start off strong. First period we went through and there was no scoring.

But in the second period, Brandt Clarke, the rookie, well not rookie, he just missed it by like a game or two of being able to play and be a rookie this year. He scored his first goal from Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala. So it was one-nothing Kings and that was at the 751 mark of the second period.

Then just about five and a half minutes later, Joel Edmundson gets his first goal from Anze Kopitar and Quentin Byfield. And it was two to nothing Kings. Looking good boys, looking good. But Utah, they've got some talent. Clayton Keller scored his fifth goal of the season. And I just lost. There we go.

At the 1555 mark from Sergachev and Schmalz, that was a great pickup, Sergachev by Utah. He's been incredible. So after two periods, it is two one kings. We go into the third period and at the 109 mark, we want to venture a guess anybody who scored the

Cody (30:42)
yeah.

Gary (31:03)
The third goal for the Kings?

Cody (31:05)
David Rittich.

Gary (31:09)
I might have believed that before the Joel Edmundson scores his second goal at the 109 mark from Kempe and Clarke.

first time in Joel Edmondson's career that he scored more than one goal. It's good. Yeah, really. So then at the 947 mark, Logan Cooley scored from Kessering and Gunther to make it a 3-2 game. And basically,

Cody (31:23)
Shut up, really?

Gary (31:42)
That's where it ended up at three two kings. Let me just get to.

a little bit more details here.

Utah outshot the Kings 26-23. They won the faceoff, which is, I mean, it's unusual for the Kings to be under 50 % in the faceoff circle and they have been most of the season. 60-40. Although the penalty kill for the Kings was up this week or for this game, because Utah was 0-3 and their power play was up this week because they were 1-3.

Each team had six penalty minutes. The Kings had 26 hits to Utah's 20. The Kings had 15 block shots to Utah's 13. In giveaways, that's the one you want to lose. You want to lose that one. And the Kings did lose it because Utah gave up 16 and the Kings only gave up 14. The takeaways you want to win and the Kings only had three and Utah had seven.

And let's go back to see who our three stars for this game were.

I can tell you how pretty much Adrian Kempe, the third star with two assists. Brandt Clarke, the second star with a goal and assist and the star of the game.

Joel Edmundson with two goals. So, I had four games, you had three games in episode 34 in predictions. I went 4-0.

Cody (33:27)
I know I didn't.

Gary (33:30)
That's okay, because week 35, we both sucked. I gotta just to tell you that that one right now. So we'll go back and we'll go back to the next duck game then.

Cody (33:37)
No, no.

Well, I forgot about the three stars in the Ducks Rangers game, so I'll say that real quick. Number three star, who else but Lukas Dostal. He had a 2.07 goals against average and a 938 save percentage. Cuylle had one goal with one point, but he had a game winning goal. And then former...

LA great Jonathan Quick was the number one star and I can tell he looked like back in his prime with the Kings when he played against the Ducks in game. He kept the Rangers in this game too. There was a couple great saves he made in this game.

Gary (34:32)
He's always been a very athletic gifted NHL, all the team killer. Wow. Just on a note.

Cody (34:34)
Duck. Duck killer. Yep.

Yeah.

Gary (34:49)
How important do you think the World Championship was this year?

I mean, I'm just saying, who are you talking about all the time? Lukas Dostal? Lukas Dostal? Lukas Dostal? Every time he's a star, but...

Cody (34:55)
for Dostal or just in general.

Well here's the thing, he's the only bright spot for us right now.

Gary (35:12)
Well, here's the thing is...

If he keeps this up, he's going to run away with the Vezna trophy. I mean, he's been incredible.

Cody (35:22)
No kidding.

Well, trust me, I'm going to get to that a little bit more later too, but.

Gary (35:31)
Yeah, what would the score of the King's Ducks game been without him?

Cody (35:36)
That's been every game with Doestalt

Gary (35:41)
So anyways, let's we'll move on to the New Jersey Devils.

Cody (35:44)
Game number two for the Ducks. Yes, this was on the end of a back to back for the Ducks. They went to New Jersey to play the New Jersey Devils. And this one was the complete opposite game of the night before. This one, they just look, they just completely got outplayed, out hustled, out pretty much out everything. I'm not going to blame James Reimer for this game because honestly, the Ducks just looked like

utter crap. They lost this game 6-2. They got out shot 34-26. I'm sorry but when you're giving up 16 shots in the first period. 16 shots in the first period. 12 in the second period. You wanna know how many of the ducks had it between those first two periods?

Gary (36:36)
store.

Cody (36:38)
Close, yeah. No, they had ten total.

Gary (36:44)
Well, they've had times where the shot volume is almost non-existent.

Cody (36:51)
Yeah, or if they even get any shots, but believe it or not, the Ducks actually scored in the first period with one of those seven shots. And so in the first period, Brock McGinn scored the first goal of the game.

Gary (37:05)
Yeah, I was actually listening to that game.

Cody (37:09)
Yeah, this was just a great game. I'm sorry, a great goal. bad. Just Brock McGinn just got was able to skate with and then the devil's player was in front of him. And he shot at the perfect time where the devil's defenseman was blocking Markstorm's view and scored a short sighted goal on him. The assist was Terry and Strome. And that was Brock McGinn's first goal of

the season and then after that on the second period is when it went to yeah Jack Hughes started the scoring for the devils he got his third of the season and then former duck Stefan Nosen scores two goals back to back for the devils to make it three one and then another former golden knight loves to pick on the ducks Paul Cotter scored make scored and made it four to one

And the third period, Nico Hischier scored his ninth goal of the year to make it five one New Jersey. Ryan Strome scored his third of the year with assists from Fowler and Gauthier.

that made it 5-2 and then Eric Haula finished it off to make it 6-2 New Jersey. Now let's get into the stats.

Face-off percentage.

Not good. The Ducks got lost this face-off percentage 62 to 38. Yeah, you heard that right. 62 to 38. I can't get mad too much about the power play. They only had one penalty, but they did score on that one penalty. The power play is just... It seems like the Ducks don't even get power plays a lot.

That's what it seems like. It seems like they get a power play and you can't even tell if they even are on the power play. They went 0 for 2 this game. They got out hit. The only thing they won is stuff that you really don't want to be winning in is giveaways. 17 giveaways. The ducks just looked lost. They look slow. I know it was on the back of a back end of a back to back, but still like

Like it looked like they were just like snails compared to like it was like cheetahs versus the snails. That's what it seemed like in this game. They're getting out hustled, lost every 50-50. It was just bad. So and the three stars in this game. James Rhymer was in goal for this game, but like I said, not his fault at all. The three stars of the game was Dawson Mercer with two assist.

Then Seigenthaler with two assists and the number one star with two goals was Stefan Noesen So that is it for the game in New Jersey, which was probably, I would say, one of the worst games for the Ducks this year.

So, yeah.

Gary (40:32)
And you're all, you did it all, huh? Ready for my second game, which was the game from hell.

Cody (40:35)
sadly.

Hahaha!

Gary (40:43)
Or should I say we just went north to San Jose?

And it's like, we never got off the pot.

you

So San Jose we play, Fiala suspended. Could have been a difference. Could have been a difference, but I think it was a great slap in the face. Maybe this was a necessary loss to wake up the team.

Let's go through the scoring real quick. Jake Walman scored on a slap shot at the 220 mark of the second period. First period was no score. Seems to be doing that a lot lately. No score on the first period. It always seems to start happening in the second. But playing in his first game, Akil Thomas tied the game at the 318 mark. So it was just not even a minute later on a wrist shot from Brandt Clarke and Trevor Moore. So it was one to one.

And that's after two periods. Then in the second period, Fabian Zetterland scored at the 625 mark from Wennberg and Walman on a wrist shot, putting the Sharks up two to one.

Then at the 8.52 mark, Alex Laferriere ties the game up on a wrist shot from Warren Foegele. And the funny thing is, is we're not hearing superstars scoring goals lately. We're hearing the kids scoring goals or Edmundson, who's not known as an offensive defenseman. So now the game is tied two to two.

Then at the 1102 mark, ex-king Tyler Toffoli on a backhand shot. Also from Walman. Walman obviously is probably the number one star. I haven't even looked at that yet, but I mean, it's two assists and a goal already. And puts San Jose up three-two. And then at the 922 mark, William Eklund scores his second goal from Kunin and Ferraro.

empty netter and San Jose beats the Kings 4-2.

And the three stars of the game, I don't know if you care because there isn't a king in there. That is check the goalie 929 save percentage. Goals against average 2.03 to fully had the game game winner goal was the second star. Walman obviously number one star with a goal to assist. Let's get into the. Other parts of the game. The nitty gritty stuff.

Cody (43:31)
the nitty-gritty.

Gary (43:35)
So here we go.

Kings actually won the faceoff 57.9 % to 42.1%. The Kings were 0 for 6 on the power play and 0 for 4. So their penalty kill is picking it up back again. And what really killed the Kings, and I say this in the first period, they had two penalties right in the row, right at the start of the game. And they just never really got rolling after that.

It just shows you how penalties can take away the momentum.

Momentum is key. Kings had eight penalty minutes, the Sharks had 12. Hits, the Sharks out hit us 21-15. Get this on block shots. 24 block shots for San Jose, 11 for the Kings. Giveaways, Kings had 13, Sharks only had 12. Takeaways, the Kings had 10 and the Sharks had six.

So the Kings lose four to two. And this was on...

Tuesday the 29th.

Cody (44:50)
All right. Just you guys lost to the shark.

Gary (44:55)
Yeah, how embarrassing is that?

Cody (44:58)
Yeah. All right. For the next third game this week, the third game of the road trip, they end up back in New York to play the New York Islanders. And this game, they won three to one and got completely out shot again. 41 to 22. Leo Carlsson got his fourth goal of year.

on a power play goal with assists from Vatrano and McTavish. This was just a great deflection goal from Leo. Like I said, that's the stuff we need to see on the that's what we need to see on the power play. That is what the and even the next goal I'll talk about too. That's what we need to see on the power play. I had this game was one of our one of our another better power play games, I would say.

All the other games, I don't even think the power play even exist. But Leo Carlsson got the scoring started in the first period with his fourth of the year. And then in the second period, Troy Terry scored his fifth of the goal or for fifth of the goal, fifth of the year on a power play goal. Honestly, this was really just a great play overall by just

McTavish and Zellweger. Zellweger got the puck out the top left of the zone and he lost his footing and the penalty killer was about to get it out and Zellweger just made a really great second chance effort and got the puck to McTavish. McTavish drove the net on the right side and you could just see Troy Terry on the other side, McTavish

passed it across the crease and all Troy Terry had to do was just tap it in. Just tap it in, just tap it in. And that was Troy Terry's 100th career goal. So congratulations to Troy Terry on hitting the century mark for the goals. You want to know something interesting, Dan? He's the first duck to score 100 goals that was not a first round pick.

Gary (47:16)
What's that?

Cody (47:23)
That's crazy.

Gary (47:26)
Well, there's gems later in the draft, we know that.

Cody (47:29)
Yeah, like Troy Terry is a fifth round pick so and he does not look like a fifth rounder. Nope. Like I said, Troy Terry's looked really good this season. I have no complaints about his game whatsoever. In the third period, Matthew Barzal got on the board for New York on a power play goal. That was his second of the year with assists from Horvat and Dobson.

Gary (47:36)
No, not even close.

Cody (47:59)
And then Frank the Tank Vatrano scores his first of the year on an empty netter with assists from Alex Killorn who got his first assist of the year. So that was the 3-1 win for the Anaheim Ducks. Like I said, the shot song goal is what we really got to work on. We got outshot 41 to 22. And again, the faceoff percentage. We lost the faceoff percentage 32.8.

67.2 that's not good the power play was great we had two power two power play goals out of three chances and the penalty kill was even better you'll only give a one out of four that's great we out hit them out had more blocked shots than they did but then again more giveaways we can't be doing that

Three stars of the game Mason McTavish to assist with two points Troy Terry got the second star of the game with one goal I believe his was the game winning goal. Yes game winning goal and The number one star of the game who else but Lukas Dostwall. Yep

Gary (49:16)
Lukas Dostal

Boy.

Cody (49:22)
He had a yeah, gave up one goal. It was a power play goal. No, I don't even know who has them. I'll look it up while you're talking about your game. But yeah, he has a .976 goals against average.

Gary (49:23)
This is the trophy winner, Lukas Dostal.

Do you have him? Do you have him on your fantasy team?

He's been in first. He's incredible. Yeah, he's he's leading. I looked that up. He's leading and save percentage.

Cody (49:48)
He's also leading in, was it goal save expected, I believe too.

Gary (49:53)
Yeah, well, that's not a, you know, that's a more deeper, you know, analytic.

Cody (49:58)
Yeah, so I'll just kind of like, it's a way like there's like analytics on like, they, they, I guess I'm probably not going to describe this right. But like this, the goal saves expected is like when they re they tally up all these analytic stats and everything, like where the shot was, if it was high scoring or not. And it kind of tells you like, this team should have scored five goals, but they only scored

three because of the goalie. And so like if say like in the the one game against the avalanche, I believe the avalanche was they were their goals expected was like five and a half or something and Dostal only give four. So then now he has a one a plus one one and a half goals exceed expected. So

I that's the best way to put it. I want to start kind of learning how to get, understand that more. That way I can talk about it, especially when you got someone like do stall on your team. So, but that is it for the game against the Islanders.

Gary (51:13)
So we go to San Jose and we play like we're peewee hockey. We kind of look like, what were they, Section 5? Mighty Duck movie? Before they became the Mighty Ducks, we looked like them. Playing against San Jose. We come home and play who? The hated Vegas Golden Knights.

Cody (51:25)
Yes.

Gary (51:40)
First period, Warren Foegele gets his fourth unassisted at the 1358 mark. Another backhanded goal. Way to go, Warren. One-nothing kinks.

Like 52 seconds later Adrian Kempé scores his fourth goal. Wait a second. Foegele had goal four before Kempé did? Incredible. I wouldn't have thought it either. Kopitar got us the seventh assist. Mikey Anderson his third assist. It's now two nothing Kings.

Cody (52:07)
I wouldn't think that.

Gary (52:17)
And it was two nothing Kings after one period. We start the second period. I do believe he this is the leading goal scorer for the Kings. Alex Laferriere gets his sixth from Mikey Anderson and. My jester from two weeks ago, Quinton Byfield. When he's getting assists, he hasn't scored a goal yet. Foegele's got four and Quinton has zero.

Three nothing kings that was at the till till 11 mark a wrist shot.

Cody (52:47)
Wow.

Gary (52:52)
This was the prettiest goal of the game. Anze Kopitar got his fourth goal from Brandt Clarke, his eighth assist, and Adrian Kempe, his sixth assist. At the 10.55 mark, a wrist shot, really a wrist shot, he just had to tap it in. Because Clarke went over, did a spin move, and everybody's looking at Clarke, and the pass went perfectly to Kopitar, and he had nothing but net to shoot at.

Talk about making it easy for the cap. So now it's four to nothing. And what is this thing about ex-kings coming back to hurt us?

Tanner Pearson got his third at the 1458 mark of the second period from Holtz and Carlsson.

Cody (53:38)
You

Gary (53:47)
And was a wrist shot. So it's four one Kings. So we start the third period. Bad boy Kevin Fiala gets his fifth on the power play from Anze Kopitar, his eighth, and Brandt Clarke, his ninth. You heard that correct. Brandt Clarke has more assists than Anze Kopitar.

one of our pluses.

Quit playing on fantasy hockey, Cody.

Cody (54:16)
Is that what it was?

Gary (54:19)
That was a notification that you made a move.

Cody (54:22)
Wait, you can get notifications when I make a move?

Gary (54:25)
I get a notification when everybody makes a move.

Cody (54:28)
I didn't even know you can do that. oops.

Gary (54:31)
know how I started it but it's there. Anyways, Fiala from Kopitar and Clarke at the 623 mark of the third period, shot. Now it's 5-1 Kings.

So our offensive defenseman Joel Edmundson at the 803 mark scores his third goal assist from Brandt Clarke, his 10th and Kevin Fiala, his third on a wrist shot. Joel Edmundson's got more goals than Quentin Byfield. What the hell's going on? This world is upside down, dude. That's all I got to say.

Cody (54:52)
Ha

No kidding.

Gary (55:15)
Then later part of the period, Pavel, how do you say that, Cody?

Cody (55:22)
I'm not even on the same thing as you, hold on.

Gary (55:25)
Dorofeyev Dorofeyev Dorofeyev scored his fifth on the power play from Stone and Theodore who thank you you stole from me Theodore at the 11.04 mark on a wrist shot and then Doriayev

Cody (55:28)
Dorofeyev.

Gary (55:47)
Dorofeyev scored his second goal, not on the power play from Korzak and Hurdle at the 1703 mark. a backhanded shot, another backhanded shot, which led to the score being six, three. How do you, how do you beat the Vegas golden nights one night and lose to San Jose the next, the three stars of the game.

Cody (56:12)
Yes.

Gary (56:16)
Adrian Kempe, the third star with a goal and an assist. Grant Clarke, the second star with three assists, including the beautiful one to the cap. And who's the number one star? Azay Kopitar with a goal and two assists. So let's go to...

The details.

Now this is more like it. Vegas is a very good face-off team. 50-50.

At worst you want to be 50-50. The Vegas Golden Knights were 1 for 3 on the power play. Obviously the Kings were 1 for 3 on the penalty kill. The Kings were 1 for 1 on the power play. So they had 100%. The Vegas had 9 penalty minutes. The Kings had 13. Still too many penalty minutes for the Kings. I think they're trying to...

to show the Ducks that they're not the only team that gets in trouble with penalty minutes. The Kings out hit Vegas 27-21. blocked shots 10-7. Giveaways, they only had eight, and Vegas had 16. And takeaways, the Kings only had six, and the Knights had 11. So the final of the game.

King six. Cheaters three. Yes, honey, I said cheaters.

Cody (57:51)
I didn't say it this time. I didn't say it.

Gary (57:54)
Yeah, well, she could be mad at both of us for a little while. He's not going to hear that until like Thursday next week, so we're good. I think that was my last game, too.

Cody (57:59)
No, you said it this time.

I blame you.

Yep, alright, I got one more to talk about. On the final game of this road trip, the Ducks end up in Pittsburgh going against Sid the Kid, even though he's not really a kid anymore, Crosby. The Ducks lost this game 2-1 in overtime. Sid the Kid scored both goals for Pittsburgh. Why am I not shocked? Alex Killorn scores his

first or actually sorry his second goal of the year with assists from Zegras and Gauthier. Can you guess on who has more assists? Zegras or Gauthier? Yep he has twice as many assists. He has four, Zegras has two. But then again Zegras has actually scored this year. Gauthier still hasn't scored his first NHL goal which I'm gonna come up with that prediction later.

Gary (58:52)
Go to A.

So we both feel like we have future superstars not performing.

Cody (59:14)
Yeah. So, but that.

Gary (59:17)
I mean, must be the weather in Southern California. I don't know what else it could be.

Cody (59:21)
Yeah, must be. Yeah. So Alex Killorn score got the scoring started in this game with that goal in the first period. And we were held scoreless until the third period where Sidney Crosby scores his second of the year to tie it up one one on honestly just a straight Crosby kind of goal. It was it was a shot pass that was going like

five feet wide of the net and Crosby just tips it in. Like, I don't know how he does these kinds of goals, but yeah, he did these crowds.

Gary (1:00:00)
He's been Sid the Kid, man. He's a superstar.

Cody (1:00:05)
yeah, he's definitely I won't say he's going to be in the Mount Rushmore of greatest players ever.

Gary (1:00:11)
And he's the only old guy in that NHL commercial. And that is such a great, if you guys have not seen that, it's all the kids. And then at the end, it's Sid. I just started laughing when I saw that the first time.

Cody (1:00:14)
I love that NHL. That's a great one.

You notice it's like a lot of number one picks in that one You had McDavid the dard MacKinnon you had Jack Hughes Quinn Hughes wasn't a first-round pick. I think he was in that one Yeah, but yeah, that's a that was a great commercial and so Said the kid tied it up and we end up going into overtime and sure enough

Sidney Crosby which I don't think this goal should have counted because there was a penalty but the refs completely missed it. Anyways but Sidney Crosby got pretty much a one-on-one against Dostal and Crosby just being Crosby was patient and just kind of dangled right in front of him and just scored nothing that I'm not blaming Dostal at all for this. You know I'm pretty sure every goalie would have gave up that goal.

But yeah, so say the won it in overtime for the Penguins to make it to get them the win that I believe that was their first win in six games. They lost six games in a row before that.

But here we go again guys, shots on goal.

45 for the penguins, 23 for the ducks. Face-off percentage, 55 for the penguins, 45 for the ducks.

Gary (1:02:01)
So one thing I'm gonna pop in there real quick, throw you off your game. You're talking about one of the, probably the best face off guy in hockey.

Cody (1:02:16)
Okay, but it seems like the Ducks are always going against a top face-off person. By the way, they're just horrible at face-offs. I think they've only ever won one game all year where they won the face-off percentage. One out of what? How many games? Nine, 10 games that they've played?

So yeah, both teams, neither team scored a power play goal. So each team was over on the power play. Then again, the ducks power play was literally non-existent in both of them. I don't even know how many shots on goal they, I know they had like one maybe good chance, but it wasn't very good. We out hit them 27 to 17 out at 26 block shots, but 20,

three giveaways this game. The Ducks just looked completely lost in their own defensive zone. were literally giving the Penguins nothing but like second, third, fourth, ten chances in one offensive zone entry. The Ducks have got to learn how to get out of their zone, make better passes, and they need to learn how to be on the

other in the other teams zone way more. That's what the Ducks are struggling with this year is they need to learn how to be on the offensive side of the game.

So let's go to the three stars of the game. Number three, Lukas Dostal. Yeah.

So he was the number three star Alex Nedaljkovic was the number two star and Sid the Kid Crosby was the number one star with two goals. So yeah.

So you want to go into player of the week?

Gary (1:04:22)
Yeah, I already got mine on there. You know who I picked, but you didn't, you didn't type in yours.

Cody (1:04:24)
Yeah, yep, I'll let you go first. There's a reason why. Go for it. You can talk about yours first.

Gary (1:04:34)
My King of the Week is Brett Clarke. He's scoring a point a game right now through 11 games. If it wasn't for Cale Makar, he might be...

You know, in the running for the Norris trophy. But Cale Makar is Cale Makar and Brandt Clarke's still not there yet, but dang, I bet she's going to be scoring like him before you know it. I mean, he's got one goal, 10 assists and 11 games. He has more assists than Anze Kopitar. He's second leading scorer on the Kings right now as a defenseman.

Cody (1:05:13)
He

Gary (1:05:21)
That's, mean, Kings really never, I mean, probably the last time they had one that was up like that was Paul Coffey. I mean, not even Doughty is, you know, that big of a squirrer. So, and that's my King of the Week, or Player of the Week.

Cody (1:05:42)
Alright, mine, I know I already picked him once, I mean, he's literally been a star. The star of the game. Every game he's been in this year.

Literally even on on the way games he's a star of the game. You know how hard it is to lose in a game? In the way game and still be one of the three stars He's the only reason why the ducks are even where they're at right now

And so again, for the second time this season already, Lukas Dostal is my star of week, my player of the week.

Gary (1:06:28)
should be the star of the week.

Cody (1:06:30)
He should he should he's probably he's gonna be he's gonna be the MVP this year at this rate

Gary (1:06:37)
Well, I already told you he's the number one. Gibson's a clear number two now. I mean, there's just no way you can not give him more games.

Cody (1:06:40)
Yeah, literally.

Yeah.

yeah, exactly.

So that's, mean, I wanted to try to pick someone else. You know, like I wanted to pick cutter cause he's really picked it. He still hasn't scored, but he, you could tell his play has gotten better. I wanted to go with McTavish cause he, he has looked better this week. You know, I to say he had like two or three points this week.

I mean Troy Terry is another great one but want like, like Lukas Dostal man.

Let's see if I can look up the stats for goalies. I think Lukas has the most fantasy points right now. Safe percentage.

Gary (1:07:40)
so you're gonna, boy, going, you're gonna go.

Cody (1:07:47)
I mean, just all 17th and save percentage, like, wait, no, no, he's not. Let's see. Safe percentage.

Gary (1:07:55)
He's gotta be number one.

Cody (1:07:59)
No, Jonathan quick is number one, but that's in through. here you go. Lukas Dostal I'll say, yeah, he's number one for it for real. I would say nothing against quick. But Lukas still saw has a 945 save percent average. That is crazy.

Gary (1:08:19)
He's getting 9.4 points a game in ESPN fantasy and our league, the Royally Quacked Pro League.

Cody (1:08:25)
Yeah.

He has the most Lucas to still has the most saves with 273 in second place. It's Markstrom with two more games. He only has 250, 30 and then shots against again, Lucas stole stall has seen 289 shots against.

and he's had and he's 273 of them in eight games.

Gary (1:09:04)
You'll never guess who has them.

Cody (1:09:04)
Master.

Justin, I already looked it up. I looked it up.

Gary (1:09:10)
Yeah, Justin has them.

Cody (1:09:15)
So like I said, I wanted to try to pick someone different, but when you have someone like this at this kind of level, that should be your player of the week.

Gary (1:09:28)
So, do you have a lame duck this week?

Cody (1:09:32)
lame duck this week.

Rich Klum. He's the assistant coach for the Ducks. I don't know what the hell is going on with our power plate unit.

It's... I don't know what it is half the time.

So.

Gary (1:09:54)
You know who our power play guy is, right?

And guess who is the Jester of the Week?

Cody (1:10:05)
Newel Brown.

Gary (1:10:07)
Our power play, I mean, we score once in a while, but it's pretty pathetic. The ducks power play is better than the kings, right?

Cody (1:10:16)
Yeah.

Gary (1:10:18)
So, Newell Brown, get your act together. This is second week in a row that my jester's been a coach.

I mean, I mean, on my jester B would be still bifill till he breaks out. He's too talented not to be doing something. anyways, enough said. I don't want to be angry today. It's my day off. Well, my day off from my regular job. So we want to go into predictions.

Cody (1:10:53)
Let's do predictions.

Gary (1:10:55)
Alright, want me to go first? So today at 1 o'clock I have the Kings beating Chicago Bedards 6 to 2.

Cody (1:10:58)
You can go first.

Gary (1:11:11)
And I'm re- okay. But before I do that, I know I did that game. So after episode 34 and 35, my overall record is 4 and 2.

Cody (1:11:25)
Okay.

Gary (1:11:27)
And Cody's record is two and four on his records. So, and those are picking our own team's games. So we're not like in total competition there. It's how good we're picking wins and losses. So I'm really going out on a limb this week. I'm going to tell you right now. I think whether they beat Chicago by six to there, I think they'll beat Chicago. But then on Monday,

We play at Nashville and I have the Kings beating Nashville because they're playing like, Nashville's playing like crap. And the Stamkos finally score a goal.

Cody (1:12:07)
Yeah.

Yes, he finally scored.

Gary (1:12:14)
I have them beating Nashville 5-3 in Nashville on Monday. Then we have a back-to-back. We play Minnesota. Minnesota's probably one of the hottest teams in hockey right now.

Cody (1:12:28)
Yeah.

Gary (1:12:29)
because Kaprizov's leading the league in scoring. 21 points. I had the Kings beat in Minnesota in Minnesota 4-3. I'm really going out on a limb on that one.

Then on Thursday, we're gonna play Vancouver. And that's one game I, Vancouver just seems to have our number. I have Vancouver beating the Kings four, two. And then we play on Saturday, which.

Chances are we're only gonna get, God, I have five games. You're only gonna get four of them on our podcast next week. Cuz that Saturday game will probably be on the following episode, just so you know. We probably should start doing those predictions that way and doing games through Friday. Yeah, start doing that. But I'll just give you mine right now. I have the Kings beating the Blue Jackets 5-3 on a week from today.

Cody (1:13:19)
Yeah.

Through Friday? Okay. Okay.

Gary (1:13:35)
And those are my predictions.

Cody (1:13:35)
Okay.

Alright for my predictions the Ducks play tomorrow Sunday, but you guys will this will be This podcast will be coming out Monday. So but I'm predicting the Ducks beat the Chicago Badards 4 to 1 and This is the game Where Gauthier gets his first NHL goal? That's my prediction

Gary (1:14:03)
Well, you've been going out on a limb a lot lately too. I think you actually did that when we played you guys. And you said you guys were gonna beat us.

Cody (1:14:05)
Mm-hmm. sure I got I gotta make it spicy

Sure, let's move on from that.

Gary (1:14:19)
He went out on a limb.

Cody (1:14:22)
Anyways.

Gary (1:14:23)
You're kind of a big guy to be out in a limb, just to tell you.

Cody (1:14:25)
Yeah, I know. On Tuesday the Ducks play against Vancouver. I'm predicting a 3-2 loss to Vancouver. And then on Friday we play against the red hot Minnesota Wild and I am predicting a 4-3 loss on that one too. I gotta be honest on some of these. As much as I would love to see nothing but W's for the Ducks, yeah.

Gary (1:14:47)
Yeah, absolutely.

Cody (1:14:55)
I have to predict some losses.

Gary (1:14:57)
Well, you know, the funny thing is, is the Kings are what? 6, 3, and 2. And they've played like crap.

I mean, against Vegas, that was probably, they were dominating Vegas. And that was impressive. I mean, they were up 6-1.

Cody (1:15:14)
Yeah.

Gary (1:15:19)
I mean, that was impressive. They've been eking out games. I think I I listen to other podcasts and I get a lot of information from them. Kings of the Podcast with John Mayer and Dennis Burstein. Dennis Burstein picked Coach Hiller last week as the King of the Week. And I picked Hiller as the jester and I called.

Or did I text you? I text you and I go, did you believe I go, we're, that far off on the thing. But in my, in it, you know, they won the games and that's why they said they were winning games. shouldn't win. And that I'm to give him credit for it. And I can understand that, but I come to the realization that you can't continue to play on the edge like that. You're, you're going to not make the playoffs. Well, that's how I felt like that. So, and then.

Cody (1:15:49)
You texted me.

Yeah.

Gary (1:16:17)
know, Locked on Kings with Eddie Garcia. I listen to that every episode.

Eddie, if you ever listened to Royalee Quack, I love your voice. I listened to our podcast and I cringe when I talk because I can't stand it. Yeah, thank you. But I listen to him. He's so eloquent and his voice is, I mean, it's a radio voice.

Cody (1:16:36)
I cringe when you talk too.

You

It's like the same thing with the lockdown ducks guy JD Hernandez. He has a great like voice too And Eddie Garcia. Yeah, he does have a he does have a good like radio podcast voice

Gary (1:17:02)
And then with all the Kingsmen, you got Jesse Cohen. Now, Jesse, he just, he has a calmness in the way he does his podcast. You know, he is very informative. He very opinionated. Not that I agree with him all the time, but he comes up with great stuff. And on his podcast, he talks about, he actually has a podcast about all the changes that went on with crypto.com.

And I don't think it had anything to do with except for the scoreboard. I guess the scoreboard is incredible in stable center now, but they don't have that.

Cody (1:17:30)
Hmm, that'd be cool.

Gary (1:17:42)
entertainment thing that might come next year. So I know the next two years they may not have any home games during preseason because they're going to be doing stuff to crypto.com.

Cody (1:17:45)
Mmm.

okay.

So I'm going ask you a quick question. Who do you think are the top three teams that have the most penalties this year so far?

Gary (1:18:00)
Sure.

Boston Bruins

Cody (1:18:11)
They're number one.

Gary (1:18:14)
We're like fifth or sixth, I No, we're up higher than that We're second The hurt I told you penalties have been a big problem and you know what most of them are with the stick they're calling the stick penalties and then the other thing is is You bring up a kind of a subject I mean Fiala Got a penalty

Cody (1:18:23)
third.

Yeah.

You

Gary (1:18:42)
knocking the stick out of the guy's hand and then they do it to Mikey Anderson and I can't remember who it was. it was it the Sharks or?

Cody (1:18:47)
.

Gary (1:18:55)
Yeah, I think it was the Sharks and they scored a goal.

Cody (1:19:00)
and they didn't call it.

Gary (1:19:01)
And they didn't call it, you know, so.

Cody (1:19:02)
Now know how us Ducks fans felt last year.

Gary (1:19:06)
No, I think it's happening. It happens to every team, think, Cody, but, you know, it's just, it's not.

Cody (1:19:11)
I don't know, last year there were some blatant penalties that the other teams got away with against the Ducks, but the Ducks got called for the little sticky tack ones.

Gary (1:19:23)
So this is our year, you can have it back next year, okay?

Cody (1:19:27)
So this is what I, the one thing I'm definitely happy about is the ducks. If I look on the other side, they have the fifth least amount of penalties taken. Minnesota is number one. They've only taken 22. Islanders has 23, Vegas with 24, Winnipeg with 26 and the ducks only have 33.

The Kings San Jose with, with 56, Boston has 57. San Jose has 56 and you guys have 49. You're tied with Philadelphia technically.

Gary (1:19:56)
So who is number two?

This is just a problem we don't typically have.

Cody (1:20:14)
And that's just minor penalties, by the way.

Gary (1:20:19)
Yeah, I got it. I got you.

Cody (1:20:19)
Just minors.

New Jersey actually has the most penalties, penalty minutes.

Gary (1:20:28)
Yeah, they're boxing too much. Rangers would be up there, but the Rempire is in the AHL right now.

Cody (1:20:36)
I think he's back up with them, isn't he?

Gary (1:20:40)
That's not something, you know, I looked at a lot of news agencies before we do the podcast and I did not see anything about him. I'm not saying that's not true.

Cody (1:20:40)
I I just saw him.

I think he got in a fight. I think he got in a fight earlier this week. I'm actually kind of curious and I'm going to look it up real quick.

Gary (1:20:58)
Then Eric has a grin on his face because he likes him.

Cody (1:21:02)
Yeah, let's see, was it? No, it had to been Thursday.

Was it Wednesday?

I know there was a fight that he was in and he did not look good in the fight.

Or what was it Monday? Was he back up already on Monday? Or am I just not seeing any Rangers this week? Ranger, here it I think it was this game. Against the Capitals. Was it?

Gary (1:21:36)
And your prediction on the capital seems to be coming true.

Cody (1:21:40)
Yeah, Matt Rampe fighting against Dylan Mc-McLiath?

Gary (1:21:46)
Should have beat up Dubois.

If you guys listen to Kings of the Podcast, John Mayer gets mad at Dennis Bernstein for bringing up Dubois a lot. So he's like the guy we cannot speak of.

Cody (1:22:07)
It's like the whole Voldemort thing.

Gary (1:22:10)
Sort of, yes, exactly.

Cody (1:22:14)
Washington has 14 points so far. They're tied for third. So I'm liking that. I know. And my New York Islanders pick is looking pretty good too.

Gary (1:22:22)
Still early. Still early.

he's strutting. Yeah, well, you're two and four in your predictions,

Cody (1:22:31)
Ugh.

Hey, that's that. I'm I'd be OK with. You know what I would like to do starting next year if we can? Is you know how on 32 thoughts they have their own like in season cup thing?

Gary (1:22:50)
you want to do an in-season cup.

Cody (1:22:51)
I want to do an in-season cup thing next year for us.

Gary (1:22:53)
Well, you gotta get enough people to want to join in. Eight? Or four? Okay.

Cody (1:22:56)
We only need two more people. No, two.

I mean we could do, or we can do as long as it's even, we can do either four people or eight people.

Gary (1:23:08)
Well, we have had two guests that we could invite to that. Adam and Eric, if you're listening next year, would you be in for an in season cup?

Cody (1:23:12)
That's true.

Yeah, because technically you can get two winners for that. Technically.

Gary (1:23:22)
Yeah, one that has the cup at the end and then one who wins the most, right?

Cody (1:23:27)
Who has, who's had the cup the most amount of days. Yep. So, yeah, I'd be down to do that. That'd be fun. All right. Ready? You ready to get out of here? Yeah. Cause I had to go to go to work real quick and help out real quick for nothing. It's going to be like a five minute thing.

Gary (1:23:32)
Interesting.

I am ready to get out of here.

You get paid for an hour?

Cody (1:23:53)
I don't even know how I'm gonna get paid. I just literally have to go there turn on the generator and then come back home Wait for the cleaning people to be done go back turn on off and then that's it No, I'm just because I live the closest So they asked me if I wanted overtime I was like, what do I have to do and they're like, just turn on the generator and turn it off and that's it I'm like, okay

Gary (1:24:03)
